So- after my experience at Gap Kids today- if the most horrible employee at the checkout isn't fired, then Gap has lost all customer focus. The experience was awful- insulting- infuriating. I walked in this afternoon with my two children- one in a stroller (1), one walking (5), my sister, and her three girls (12, 10, 7). To make a long story short- the woman behind the register found it within her job duties to not only complain about the noise, but do so to the customers (that's right, plural!) checking out- and intentionally loud so that my sister and I could hear. 'They'll be lucky if I can contain myself long enough not to say something,' 'how obnoxious,' and into the head set, 'can someone get them out of here?' At this point my sister looks at the employee making these remarks and said, 'just so you know- we can hear you- and I don't think you should be talking about us, we are at gap kids, right?' To which said employee responds, 'people should be able to concentrate.' So at this point, the employee knows we've heard her- but does she apologize? Oh, no! She takes it up a notch- more comments! Just one example, 'I can't believe she's here with five kids...' At this point my sister went and told the manger on the other side of the store - who was apologetic - and even opened a register to check us out with my three hundred dollar purchase. The manager stressed that she would say something to the employee and that it was unacceptable behavior - but seriously? We were made to feel un-welcomed at a kids store- during the middle of the day - on a Saturday- with kids! And the reason I put the kids ages was to stress that it was the one year old- making some noise. The four school-aged girls were great. My son was cranky- but you know, one-year old cranky...not embarrass us until we leave cranky. I do completely acknowledge the manager was apologetic- but I have no idea how this situation was handled when we left. Nothing was said to the employee, that we could see anyways, while we were there. I can't stress enough how unacceptable this behavior was. So upset.
