This is the worst customer service in New England. It’s a gas station that doesn’t sell gas. The interior feels run down and dusty. Sprayed a deodorant to test the smell to see if my mother would like it and a tall employee pounced on us and demanded that we pay for it immediately. He was very unsettling and thought he was intimidating. He then clowned on us for touching women’s then clowned us for touching women’s deodorant. There’s plenty of other stores around that will sell you the same products but with good customer service. The store wouldn’t even be on the corner if back door donuts wasn’t there. I could go on about this but you all get the idea. Now I have a women’s deodorant and my mom doesn’t like it.
My response to the corner store
I appreciate your quick and timely response to my review. I have a few things that I would like to add in addition to my initial review. I want to make it clear that I do not deny that we should not have had to pay if that was the stores policy. My main issue that led me to leave such a spirited review was the hostility and rudeness the employee treated us with. After he explained the “no try and buy” policy to us, we agreed to pay for the item. However, the employee continued to berate us as though we were trying to fight/argue with him. My friend compared him to the “cancel me all you want” meme also known as the basher. As we were already walking toward the counter to pay after having put up no fight, he made comments about our genders to ur backs. The facts you responded with were interesting, but held no reason or excuse for the emitter having treated us like delinquents or shoplifters. I noticed that your response to me acknowledged none of the rudeness your employee exhibited. Do you fee that he was in the right to treat us this way? I will also add that I think better signage should be in place, as I didn’t notice any at a glance before I tried the deodorant. I have tried deodorants at every grocery store, gas station or any kind of market that sells them, and never had a problem with it. While I understand the reasoning behind your rule, and do take responsibility for having gone against it, I feel it is a deviation from the often found regulations of society, and should be made more clear. Thanks guys

I visited this store recently, and I have to agree, it's one of the worst in New England. It’s a gas station that doesn’t sell gas—talk about a missed opportunity! The interior looks like it hasn't seen a duster in years, and the overall ambiance screams “dusty relic.”
The experience took a turn for the bizarre when a tall, unsettling employee pounced on me and my great uncle for tasting a lick of a chapstick. His aggressive stance and awkward comments about our lip balm choice felt like we were caught in a poorly scripted drama. It’s not every day you meet someone whose primary job skill seems to be towering over customers.
While I understand that store policies must be followed, the approach here was far from professional. As for the chapstick, it didn’t exactly win my great uncle's favor. He’s always been more of a classic mint guy rather than a “mystery flavor” enthusiast.
In the end, though, it’s not just about the chapstick or the eccentric employee. It’s about how a single, uncomfortable visit can overshadow the small joys we seek in everyday life. If you’re looking for a store where you can browse without a side of awkward confrontation, this isn’t it. And if that rude employee is interested in the chapstick, he’s welcome to it. Maybe it’ll brighten his day, though I wouldn’t bet on it.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! The corner store is nothing but a place for subpar overpriced goods and rude people. Me and my friend walked in looking for a deodorant for his mom, we sprayed one to smell it and the employee say this as an opportunity for hate. He told us we have to buy it and made remarks about our gender, he berated us for a long time even after we agreed to pay! We then payed our last 15 DOLLARS for this tiny deoterant, his mom didn’t like it so we are stuck in this debacle.

Bad experience. Unsatisfactory products for its location. Gasless gas station. Inside makes me feel dusty? Like dust in my private spaces? I wanted to sample a deodorant to test the smell to see if my mother would like it but a gangly fella was immediately upon us insisting that we pay for it at once. Off-putting demeanor. He then shamed us for our interest women's deodorant. This employee was merely a shelf duster (This joint need more of em). Possibly a nepotism hire. Point is, many other good spots around. This spot is getting carried by the donut store. My advice: go to the Reliable Self-Service Market. Much kinder staff. Lovely people and faces.

best store on MV ?? ?️‼️‼️ all these 1 star reviews seem to be people who get upset at people doing their jobs, which happens a lot on the island. the corner store has been supporting and donating to the local community (owners would buy purple pride cards off of me while i was in high school years ago) as much as possible, along with providing for the tourist/seasonal community with everything they need, with convenient hours and fairer prices than other stores. they also have mad good food, premade and made to order deliciousness.

they were very rude and charged me and my older brother were in there he was checking out bug spray accidentally sprayed it. The teenage cashier was very rude and so was the older woman she called my brother a re*ard and called me stupid it was forced by the cashier that he had to pay for it so i said to them could we return it they said no you sprayed it. (It was one tiny spray) i do not recommend there is many other gas stations around 12 dollars for bug spray ridiculous. Never giving them my money again. Also One star is generous if i could give them 0 i would.

This is my go to place when I’m in Oak Bluffs. They have a great selection. Never had any issues with the staff. The lady that works there was nice to me. I especially like the NY bagels and their deli. One stop shopping.

I've been vacationing on Martha's Vineyard since 1995 and always stay in Oak Bluffs. The Corner Store is our 'go to' place to shop. They have a wide variety of items in multiple categories and the employees have always been friendly and helpful. I've never felt unwelcome or that I was bothering them whenever I needed help finding something, despite how crowded the store might have been. They're good at multitasking! If you are in need something or just want to pick up some Vineyard memorabilia, I highly recommend The Corner Store.

Love the corner store! The staff is especially helpful both during the day and evening. The female cashier greets patrons and asks what they need when they enter the store. Also, loving the NY bagels, breakfast and lunch menu items. The Corner Store is essential for anyone visiting Oak Bluffs!

Three stars is generous. My wife and I were treated very rudely by the female cashier. Our crime: I inquired about a friendly former employee. Aren't the key themes here that it is supposed to be family-oriented and friendly? I am a middle-aged white male and was wearing a button-down shirt. If there is a silver lining, it is that rude behavior is not just for minorities.Guidance; if working here makes you so miserable that you take it out on the hand that feeds you, it's the land of the free, move on and find another gig.
