Nice place generally. Decent equipment. I think many members talk too much while saying too little but hey maybe that's your jam.Do avoid the fitness coach though. I tried taking his unsolicited advice (should have known better by the shape he's in) and it knocked my knees out for the evening.

Great YMCA - surprisingly large on the inside, multiple pools, rooms for yoga and fitness classes, a basketball gym, full workout room with all the machines and free weights you could need. Good atmosphere.

Came here for the pool. They have shoe booties to cover your dirty shoes before entering the pool. There are two pools - one for swim lessons and laps while the smaller pool is for little kiddies and water aerobic classes? Good to see that they offer life jackets, noodles, and other floaties. Staff hand out different colored necklaces to kids depending on their swimming level (red dotted = can't swim, red = can swim a bit but can't go to deep end, yellow = can swim to deep end). Overall ok until I saw a floating bandaid in the deep end and clump of hair on the deck. Family locker room is clean. They have soap if you want to rinse. Need to scan pass in order to enter (turnstyle like paying before entering the mbta train). That's good because other locations, everyone can enter without checking IDs or memberships. Machines can use an update. I didn't use but a family member said they are old.

A really nice Y with a great pool, nice facilities, and friendly staff. I've been very pleased with my membership here.

I've been a member for about a year and a half. This is a really nice Y with a great pool, nice facilities, and friendly staff. I've been very pleased with my membership here. A real effort is made to keep the facilities clean, which is a real plus. Swim lessons are great. And the pool is the largest and the best among the three YMCA's that are closest to me. Overall, I find this Y a great experience.

The Wells Ave YMCA in Newyon is a DUMP! They refuse to fix the ac so NONE of the claases have air just loud fans. The bikes for cycling need to be fixed , the water fountains are always broken, the hand sanitizers are always empty and the bathtooms are not clean! The kids hog the equipment and in the afternoon it is pick up joint! They have been notified and do nothi g! but make eccuses!Left for JCc! which is well taken care of and clean! The Jcc has a steam, sauna and whirlpool whereas the y has NOTHING!

Do not use this establishment, they claim they are a non profit but I've had multiple issues with them trying to bill me extra and steal my money. They keep saying this is our policy, and this is how we do it. When you sign up the staff don't clearly explain everything. I signed up two days ago and I've had 3 separate transactions on my bank account which caused overdraft fees and other fees. When you ask for help they just keep transferring your around and saying this is the number to call. It's hilarious that a rich white suburban neighborhood ymca needs to be doing this especially considering it's Newton Mass, a wealthy neighborhood.

Terrible staff, don’t recommend any of the perosnal trainers, best to use it for basketball and workouts on your own. Highly dissatisfied and very disappointed. Can’t even take my shirt off to flex for the mirror/camera. Very inappropriate behavior from staff.

Love the staff - they are diverse welcoming and friendly. Love the pool, the classes and the instructors. Love that they've change with the covid protocol as we've all learned and know more now than we did in 2020. It's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. I've been a member for years and appreciate that the most is made of the space. This building, I was informed, was never a school but rather it's one of the oldest Ys in the country. Different priorities over 100 years ago. This Y has a little bit of old and new and in my opinion have made the most of the spacing issues. Of course everyone would love more of everything but I'm not sure logically where anything could be added. Thank you to this y- my home away from home where I've made so many friends!

Worst experience of my life with any fitness center. Great disappointment, I use to go there in the 70s n early eighties it was great. Thought I'd go back to have my son learn to swim. I was promised a spot on a three to four month wait-list.Went through the motions followed the rules checked in months, later they forgot about us. We didn't exist. That's my experience in 20222.. very sad

I enjoy this YMCA! But there has to be something done about the High School Students sitting on their phones while on the equipment! Many people are complaining, but no one's speaking up!

I like this place in general. The basketball court with wood floor is well maintained. The front desk is always welcoming and helpful. However, the pool schedule is absolutely not youth friendly. There are only two afternoons per week, both on the weekend, where the pool is open to youth. According to the schedule, one lane is reserved as a youth lap during these time periods. However, every time we were there, all lanes were occupied by adults. There is no sign out there indicating which lane is for the youth lap. My kids never get the chance to use the youth lap successfully with their first try. They kept getting yelled at and kicked out by the life guards for using the wrong lane. They were also told they can't share the lane with an adult. But why allow adults in the youth lap during youth swim time in the first place? Why not put up the youth lap sign? They are also not allowed to use rec lane because they swim laps?!I am giving this review because, for one thing, I don't like the lifeguards throwing their weights around those kids (Not all lifeguards are blameful, some of them did try to help); for another thing, I don't think it is fair for the kids to be treated in this way given that they were the ones who followed the schedule from the beginning.
