Only place we could find to pick up individual sod pieces 5 by 2 feet. Staff were helpful, gave good advice, plus the price was right!

When we bought our beautiful family home many years ago we thought it was perfect. Inside it really was perfect but our elementary school aged kids informed us that all of their friends, including our neighbors, had pools and better yards for playing. They begged for a pool, but my wife was hesitant because she wanted a beautiful yard and thought that pools were ugly. I was only concerned about expenses but for my daughter's12th birthday I told her would we put in a pool. My wife was not happy because she thought it would make the yard look stark and bare with too much cement and not enough space to grow flowers or relax. I hired a contractor but wanted a good deal on supplies so I called Sam White and Sons in Newton and spoke to an expert who helped design and find materials for a perfectly beautiful yard that my whole family could love and enjoy.Since then we have been going back on a regular basis to update the property and add to the beauty and pleasant atmosphere. We put in some more garden spaces for plants and flowers, a firepit, an additional patio, an outdoor kitchen thing, and lots of nice rockwork. I eventually had the pool redone which made my wife very happy and helped up the value of our home. Every time we go in to Sam White and Sons the service is great and all their employees seem to be experts at giving great advice. So many tips and ideas!I very much appreciate that it is still a family owned company. I see many of the same employees in the twenty something years I have been going there which gives me great confidence in how they run the business. So much depends upon good employee management, doesn't it? The employees there always seem happy and ready to help which makes me think they like their jobs and are treated very well. This translates directly to good customer service. I have read some sad bad reviews here and do not agree at all with the people who wrote them. I think that some people do not understand how this sort of business works and they expect things that are not really a part of the business model. I remember Sam White and respect him and his family for what they have created.

Rude, disrespectful, no clue what customer service is. I literally had to grab my credit card and walk away because I didn't want to waste a second of my time in there.

I ordered the mulch from them and had it delivered to my home. The person who answered the call sounded so impatient. i am going to try some place else this year.

I have used this company multiple times to deliver mulch and compost. I think they are great. The older woman on the phone is not super polite but she isn't rude either, just short. They have some younger people on the phone now and they are all pleasant in their phone ,manners. Delivery of the product is what counts. They always delivery what I want when they say they will and dump the load where I ask them. Even when I'm not at home. It's great.

Called today to order mulch delivery. The lady acted like she couldn’t be bothered to take the call. I kept trying to schedule a mulch delivery and she kept responding with a barely audible ok and a very awkward silence. She never attempted to ask what type of mulch or where I would like it delivered. It was very weird. I ended up using Landscape Express in Roslindale and they were very helpful. I use to use Sam White a lot and I liked them, it’s to bad.

Awful place... DEFINITELY would not recommend if you are not Caucasian. Witnessed an African American get treated terribly and called the “n” word by the office lady. COMPLETELY UNCALLED FOR.
