This is a beautiful, well-maintained temple location in Newton. It has a pretty wealthy community supporting it, which is noticeable immediately upon entry. I've been there twice for two bat mitzvah services over the past year and have enjoyed both services a lot. They have two active rabbis there, a woman and a man which is uncommon and quite refreshing. They also host a lot of events of all kinds throughout the year.

Temple Emanuel is a community of some of the most caring, supportive, and giving individuals -including clergy, staff, and congregation. It would be difficult to imagine a House of Worship that meets the needs of so many with such grace and ease!!Ellen Kass

30 year member, part of this dynamic caring and learning community, many "gates" to membership, you will find all sorts of ways to be Jewish here. Brilliant clergy who relate our ancient traditions to today's world, both for individuals and groups.

How can a listing of conservative Shuls inl Newton and Brookline not include the outstandingly wonderful Temple Emanuel? Beyond belief. I was Bar Mitzvah and graduated Hebrew School here, left for 40 years only to return in my old age. Better than ever!

Looking for a welcoming Jewish synagogue with thoughtful and warm clergy? Temple Emanuel is the place. My husband and I joined a few years ago and feel very much at home at the synagogue.

Freddie Allan's review is no surprise. What is a surprise is how the Rabbis and other folks there treat people. If you are seeking to connect with mean, nasty and dishonest people, then by all means, this might just be your place. Before signing up for membership, dig deep.Temple Emanuel is an awful place.

Incredibly welcoming to all- whether you are single, married, interfaith, with children or without. While conservative, there are multiple opportunities to learn and expand religious knowledge and spirituality for every 'level' of observance.

I had a very bad experience here, where a Rabbi deliberately tried to humiliate me in public. I had asked a fact related question after a talk by an outside speaker. I'm guessing he didn't know any relevant material, so he, in an unpleasant tone, asked this rabbi if he wanted to answer. The rabbi said: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. AT LEAST that many times. His tone and attitude of contempt was very clear. It caused a stir, people stared at me, and someone I knew somewhat refused my offered hug (it WAS a Jewish holy day) saying: stay away from me! I'm so embarrassed by you!Well, the Jews are the questioning people, the ones who argue/fight with G-d, two Jews, 3 opinions.Apparently, at this synagogue, not so. Instead, your intelligence will be insulted by hearing a talk about the POPE on Shavuot, that also had no substance. And it you try to bring it to something real, you will be treated with contempt in public. Some lessons: If someone is talking about the pope on a Jewish holiday, in a Jewish sanctuary, get up and leave. Also, don't go to this place. Only the wicked try to humiliate people in public. Or the incompetent. Or both. All either of them had to do was say: we're out of time, can we talk about this after? So, in addition, I think it's fair to conclude that neither the rabbi nor the speaker have even basic 'speaker skills.'Finally, when I mentioned this to a friend at a different synagogue, he said: that rabbi has a reputation for being obnoxious. Golly, wish I had known.

Looking for a vibrant congregation that is welcoming and thriving? This is the place! It is filled with passionate congregants and clergy that are inspiring and have significantly contributed to making me discover and foster a better version of myself. I feel as though I have found sanctuary every time I enter the shul. Shabbat Alive on Friday nights is filled with hundreds of people (many of whom are not members) who pray and sing together, welcoming in Shabbat. I'm centered and uplifted afterwards and love to chat with everyone after the service over delicious food and wine! The friendships I have made over the years and still continue to make are so precious to me. Temple Emanuel is like coming home.
