Could not be happier with my dog’s first appointment with Dr. Pope. She was friendly, thorough, and informative. Finally feel like my pup is in good hands!

Real nice and clean office, my pets do not like going here. But I like the time they take to ease their minds and get it done. The staff was friendly and professional also very helpful with any questions We had and Clear instructions to help maintain treatment.

I cannot rave enough about Dr. Pope and the care my boxer, Lana, has received here. Last winter, Lana was diagnosed with a torn cranial cruciate ligament and underwent TPLO surgery. Dr. Pope is incredibly knowledgable with the most compassionate demeanor. It was a tough recovery but she guided me through every step of the way.Two days ago, we were in for FNAs of some masses when Dr. Pope auscultated dropped heart beats in my boxer. She immediately hooked her up to an ECG and caught an arrhythmia that my girl could've died from if not caught so early on. We were referred to ER for a cardiology consult that same day. She saved my girl's life and we are so incredibly grateful. Thank you Dr. Pope!

Short Version: If you have a French Bulldog, pug or any breed that has known health problems I would steer clear of this practice. They misdiagnosed my Frenchies eye issue, made it worse with initial the treatment, corrected the treatment, and still he almost lost his eye because of the initial misdiagnosis and lack of recommendation from them to see a specialist. Long Version: We brought our dog here for years, staff has always been amazing, nice and developed a great relationship with most of the staff. We initially brought our frenchie for an eye issue. It was puffy, he kept kind of closing it, squinting. He originally saw Dr. Burba who said he had conjunctivitis,, no uclers and said to treat him with a steroid ointment for 10 days twice a day. We treated him with the ointment, but luckily would forget to do it started to look better than when we used to ointment, but after a few weeks it seemed to get worse. We then went in for a recheck because it wasn't getting better, told them it seemed to get worse with the ointment. Dr. Kim Petty re-examed his eye and said to restart treatment with the steroid cream and make sure to do the full 10 days (Despite us saying we thought it was making it worse). So I did just that, 2 times a day like clockwork, and halfway through he developed a hole in his eye, which turned out to be a corneal ulcer. We then saw Dr. Pope for the Corneal Ulcer who completely changed his treatment and said steroid ointment will make ulcers worse. Which in this case appeared to be what happened in our opinion. Dr. Pope then begin to treat the ulcer, saw us very frequently, I really hate writing this negative review because Dr. Pope honestly was amazing, I could tell she really cared about him and wanted to help fix the issue with his eye. It was improving from what she told me and after multiple re-checks she said he was good to go back to normal life, no drops, keep an eye on it. Fast forward I want to say 1-1.5months he still had a noticeable hole there but we assumed it was healing. He then one night lightly swiped at his eye and boom. Liquid shot out of it, I rushed him to an emergency vet who then referred us to Tufts who had an Opthalmology team. To wrap this up, he had a corneal perforating leaking ulcer, the team at tufts said they would NEVER give a Frenchie or similar breed a steroid ointment for their eyes under any circumstance because they are prone to these problems which steroids either cause or make 100x worse. With all this said, Dr. Pope was amazing but I really am disappointed in this clinic because of the initial recommendation from both Dr. Burba and Dr. Kim Petty to use steroid ointment for 10 days which directly caused him to develop a Corneal Ulcer. Then, with such a bad Corneal ulcer I don't understand why the team didn't recommend we go straight to a specialist and have them look at his eye. I blame myself a lot for not logically thinking we should do that myself but I trusted the team here and did everything they said. Drops 6x a day, cone for almost 8 weeks...etc. After the rupture, the tufts team was able to save his eye with a graft surgery but this could have easily been avoided had he 1 not been treated with steroids and 2 been recommended to see a specialist once he developed the corneal ulcer instead of only treating it with drops. Graft surgery might have been avoided and they could have done a different procedure. I called the clinic to express my concerns (I'm a pretty calm person so I wasn't being crazy like someone normally would) but I wanted them to know this should have been avoided and they basically are the majority at fault for my Frenchie almost losing his eye. After stating everything above, I was told Dr. Pope would call to follow up. Didn't get a call, and in my patient history I requested because logically we're leaving the clinic after this they said: "called upset that ulcer ruptured when we were closed and had to seek care elsewhere". That's absolutely not what I said or was upset about, I was upset t

Love it here! Everyone is always so kind and welcoming. I have brought several of my pets here including my chinchilla, birds, and rabbit. My rabbit recently got neutered and it went very well! I would definitely recommend this veterinary clinic!

Awesome. I had a really rough time at another vet spending well over $1000 to diagnose my cat and after paying that they found nothing. I had been told my cat needed a $4200+ surgery without a diagnosis. I went to Newburyport Vet and now have a more clear plan, and diagnosis. Although more needs to be explored with my cat I felt that she was fully examined with a free cytology exam ($400 at another clinic). Surgery is still happening but at least $3000 less than quoted at another clinic. I can’t thank them enough for helping!

DO NOT send your pets to this clinic. If I could give 0 stars I would. I have a german shepherd who I brought there from 3 months old. She went into heat at 12 months, which was normal. However, 2 months later, she started bleeding again - I called Dr Pope and she told me to bring her in right away, they did an ultrasound, then told me that she had a uterine infection and that I needed to put her on medication immediately because there was a chance of DEATH. I was so scared and trusted Dr Pope and started the meds (which cost over $200 in addition to the charge for the office visit and ultrasound) and scheduled a week follow up for another ultrasound. After a week of meds, I brought her in and another vet at the clinic said, this looks like she is just in heat again.. upon the second ultrasound there was no concern, and they said to discontinue the meds. AFTER I paid for the meds, two ultrasounds and an office visit. This was a complete MISDIAGNOSIS. Despite all this, I decided to give them a second chance, and scheduled a procedure for her to be fixed. They gave me the meds to calm her for the night before and confirmed the date set. I called the Tuesday before the scheduled appointment, and confirmed the dosage, and the time for drop off and pick up. All was confirmed by the front desk staff. I then gave her the drugs, cleared my work schedule and weekend.. and when I arrived at drop off they told me that she was NOT on the calendar. I said, I called TUESDAY and it is THURSDAY, how was this missed? and the front desk staff went back to speak to DR LAGASSE who said she was only on until 4 pm and could not stay late to fit the dog in... even though I had been told TUESDAY she was on the schedule... I asked to speak to Dr Lagasse directly and she would not come out. At that point, I left and decided to go to another office. PLEASE do your research before sending your dog here, you do not want a misdiagnosis, or an unorganized and rude staff. Save yourself the time and trouble and make sure your pets get the care they deserve!!

I made the recent difficult decision to change my 13-year-old lab Molly's vet. I was searching for a clinic that provided comprehensive, compassionate care for older dogs as I want Molly's remaining "golden years" to be the best possible. Newburyport Veterinary Clinic was recommended to me by several people and recently we had our first visit with Dr. Pope. I immediately felt a sense of relief and assurance that I had choose the right place. Dr. Pope was kind, caring, and compassionate and offered solutions to recent concerns. I left that visit with confidence knowing that I am providing the best life for my beloved dog Molly with people who really care. All of the staff I met were simply amazing! Highly, highly recommend!

My two previous rescue brothers, Buddy and Billy were both patients of the Newburyport Veterinary ClinicThey received excellent care. Both have since passed. I recently adopted two rescue sisters, Freya and Cora. Because of the treatment given Buddy and Billy I did not hesitate to have them care for Freya and Cora. I know they will do the best for Freya and Cora as well as me.

I have been bringing my two dogs to Newburyport Veterinarians for 6.5 years. The care has been excellent. Everyone is so professional from the two veterinarians who care for my two little dogs to the techs who are excellent. They came recommended to me when we took in our first rescue dog and I am recommending them now to anyone who is looking for their pets' doctor. Nat

I have never had a bad experience with this clinic. Everyone on board is incredible. I have a pretty difficult dog to work with both medically and behaviorally and they have constantly gone above beyond for my dog. The care and knowledge is second to none in the area
