We recently had our 4-Runner serviced here and were very happy with the level of expertise as well as the customer service we were provided. My car was pulling to the right after a dealer fixed our breaks. Not wanting to drive far to find out why, I pulled in after passing them for years. (I thought they were more of a crash fix situation....) I was pleasantly surprised by the level of detail I was given regarding our car's "diagnosis". We received options on our immediate replacement needs around the caliper, as well as what we could wait on with estimations on how long we could wait and what other repairs would be needed in the long term if they were not addressed. (I like knowing the whole picture so I can plan down the road.) Thank you! Our teenage son will be driving this car often, and now I can feel confident that it is safe.

A great local place. Used them to install tires ordered from Tire Rack and was super impressed with the process. Friendly, communicative about ANY potential issues, patient and super competent. High five for this repair shop and a SUPER high five For( I can't remember her name behind the counter )But boy, was she professional, kind and honest. We were headed out for a long weekend And an object off the highway hit our car from underneath and punctured our gas tank. She was able to find us a tank for a yr. 2000 car, Have it delivered, installed and had us back on our way within 24 hours before they closed for the weekend. Thank you so much

Andrew is an incredible guy. He went above and beyond to help me with my 1999 Audi A4. Having an old European car, I am used to having lots of surprise issues when I'm on the road away from my home mechanic. I live in NYC but am frequently traveling to the north shore of Massachusetts.I came in to State Automotive because my rear suspension was making some squeaks and I wanted to repair it if possible. During the inspection, which was incredibly thorough and documented VERY well, they found a control arm issue which was critical for safety. The squeak issue is actually not a safety issue and I would need to find the part from a third party as it isn't made anymore and getting it pulled at a scrap yard is not a good idea. Andrew couldn't find the part anywhere and I learned this is a common issue on these older Audi cars. The repair to the control arm was done quickly and at a very good price - especially considering the extra consideration Andrew gave to the issue. He gave me a lot of helpful information on how to address additional issues (or not) and was honest about the Car's prognosis. Lastly- worth mentioning that Andrew and his team provide fantastic documentation: a breakdown of all the car issues, photos of the key problems, and a print out for the missing parts needed to repair.If I keep the car and it need more service while I'm in MA, Andrew and his team will be my first stop. Highly recommended.

My son bought a cool, all black Toyota Forerunner last year. He drove it to Florida and back, installed a lift kit on it, added an LED light bar, a grille guard, and other off-road accessories. This truck was a prize, until it stopped running. Since I've taken my Landrover here, I knew exactly where to take the Forerunner. Just like a dealership, I received a full breakdown of the repairs with costs and a timeline. I was relieved that they were able to split the repairs into two phases. Unfortunately, the truck needed a lot of safety-related repairs and I'm thankful my son was able to make it home from Florida. It feels so great to gift it back to him today, because I know he will be driving a safe vehicle for the rest of the winter - plus I get my Range Rover back! Andrew and the whole crew are always friendly, polite, honest and genuine. You don't find that everywhere.Services: Steering & suspension repair

Kind, honest, and professional. My dealer told me my brakes were in the “danger zone” and needed replacing. I was suspicious. I did need new tires though. When I went to State Automotive repair to replace the tires I asked them to check on my brakes. They told me they were fine and safe and did not need replacing. They have earned my trust over and over. And, I love my new tires.Service: Tires

I had a great first experience as a client of State Automotive. From my initial phone call and conversation with Andrew, to the warm greeting that I received from Dana, and staff, I can't say enough great things about State Automotive.I was in search of MotorVac Carbon Clean service for our car's fuel injection system, and I found that equipment, technology, and service at State Automotive. The State Automotive Team were kind, consummate professionals to interact with, and they did an exceptional job servicing our car.As has been the case, for the past 20 years that we have had the MotorVac Carbon Clean service performed on our cars (usually, at about 60,000 miles), the difference in our car's performance, following the service, was beyond noteworthy, and represented a very subtantial improvement in our car's performance.I highly recommend State Automotive and their MotorVac Carbon Clean service.PS: I should add, having waited in the Waiting Room of State Automotive, while our car was serviced, I had a chance to observe the longtime, personal relationships that the State Automotive Team maintains with their customers, all of whom are loyal, and on a first name basis; that experience said more, and meant more than any advertising.

I cannot recommend State Automotive in Newburyport highly enough! I have used him through 4 cars and 10+ years! He has always kept our old jalopies running and safe and I have recommended him through the years to numerous friends.Here’s the amenities Andrew provides when you take your car in: He gives you an appointment, you can drop your car off and safely drop your keys off before he opens, and you can safely pick up your keys and your car after hours too, he or one of his guys will give you a ride home if you need, he can provide you a loaner car if you ask (I can’t count how many times those loaners saved us!), then he calls and gives an estimate AND provides a written copy of that estimate on a State Auto form via email.State Auto is also a GREAT place to buy a used car! Knowledgeable, friendly, and honest! Fast, reliable and economical (compare prices for other skilled mechanics!)Andrew and all the staff at State Auto are absolutely the best!If I could give him 10 stars, I would! ❤️Services: Oil change

I wish I could give this place 0 stars!! First of all I needed my transmission leak fixed and new tires that I already paid for to be put on and the starting issue fixed. It took them 15 mins to fix the starting issue.. it was a fuse... it took them 3 months to fix my transmission leak!! They did not keep me updated I had to call them to see what the hell was going on. On top of that Andy said it would be $100 to put the tires on and take the old ones off.. and then charged me $80 to get rid of the old tires that I wanted to get rid of my self because I know a guy that would have taken them. So 3 months to fix all these issues and charged me $1,300 to do it. Without giving me a price before doing the work. Something that should have costed $600 was doubled the price and he kept it for 3 months! And his attitude about it is disgusting. Says he's too busy to get back to me. A paying customer!! The icing on the cake. I get the truck back and now to drive it I have to put it in neutral instead of drive... when I brought this up to him he said they didn't touch the shifter. Ok so who did? Mickey Mouse? This place has the worst customer service and I will never in a million years recommend anybody go here. He will keep your vehicle forever and not give you the decency of a call to let you know what's going on! Very dissatisfied with this place and reporting to the BBB. Andrew your professionalism is disgusting and you're a fraud!
