As a historian interested in architecture, I love the design of this beautiful building, which first opened on April 16, 1871. The nearby clock tower was a great addition.

Used to be a good bank in the 80's and 90's when Mark Welch was president. Not anymore...very inflexible and does not work with you at all when you are valued customers for decades.

This review is for the Rockport site. The customer service is horrid. They asked my daughter where she worked because they didn't understand how such a young person could have such a large check! None of your business, she was young and worked in a co-op situation in a machine shop. Mind your business. Went to cash a check that my daughter signed over to me, they refused, fine, instead of just giving check back they sat there and went back and forth and had the nerve to ask what I would do with the money if they cashed it! ?None of your business, cash it or don't! Went to close the account and they were asking all kinds of inappropriate questions! None of your business!

I switched from The Provident Bank to Institution for Savings and have had nothing but issues since. Their policies are a little ridiculous and not consumer friendly. They cap you at certain withdrawals and monetary limits and there's no wiggle room even if you speak to someone. Today I wanted to get something notarized to refinance my vehicle. But because the form said power of attorney on it, they refused to notarize it for me stating that it's their policy. I walked into The Provident Bank down the street and they signed it for me in four seconds without issues. I may have to switch back.

I first opened an account with them as a small child. 3 decades later they are still my hands down favorite banking instituion. The tellers are always so nice whether you are in person, online, or on the phone. After moving out of state I had to finalize transactions from across the country and they made the experience simple and quick. This is my personal favorite branch b/c it is an old building that is full of history both inside and out. Not many banks are able to grow and adapt to modern times and still maintain a personal experience, but they have done just that.

Very inflexible. My mother is elderly and wanted to roll her expiring CD into a savings account but did not want to come into branch during COVID as she is high risk. Bank refused to do transaction either via phone or via mail.

Please stay a way, worst bank experience ever. Extremely incompetent _avoid Jessica like a plague. You are better off dealing with Covid 19 then this bank. She was extremely rude, disrespectful, verbally insulted me and kept laughing in my face. STAY a WAY for your own good

The worst financial institution we have ever done business with. We have had over 15 mortgages in our lifetime and have never encountered a more incompetent staff. We are looking to refinance for the sole reason that Julie D should not be a customer facing staff member. Rude, Condescending and inept. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!

the bank does have competitive rates on CD but not worth the hassle of opening a account in person. this bak has a 1950 mentality and will charge you $25 to simply have money mailed back to you. Management is extremely stubborn and they are like dealing with a government agency like the motor vehicle department....stay away is my advise....

I felt an invasion of privacy and possibly my my personal identity compromised. I went to the Topsfield branch today with my son and made a withdrawal as I do often throughout the week. The teller asked me to spell my last name out loud, then she asked to see my driver's license. Then she asked me to say my social security number out loud. I hesitated but said it. She then photocopied my license without asking me. I asked her why she just did all that and she replied that she was updating her system (which should have been updated since I go to many branches very often). I asked her "Why did you need me to say my SS number out loud if that didn't change? Shouldn't a new license also be enough verification?" I called the branch manager and she gave me the same run around. She said the other branches weren't doing their job asking for that private information! I requested that the photocopy of my license be shredded and I won't be going there again. Do not do your banking at the Topsfield location. Otherwise you risk being the victim of identity theft.

I had this bank for a long time with no issues until there was an unauthorized withdrawal. I did everything on my end to recover my money with no luck. I asked them for help and was told because I visited their site that there was nothing they could do. I know this is untrue, as I have worked in a bank before. It's an easy form to fill out. If you need help they will not help you. But don't worry, there are other banks willing to help you.

Still my favorite branch. Great old building and the tellers are very friendly.

I helped a son shop for a mortgage for a house on the north shore a few months ago. After researching rates and terms at multiple banks, we settled on IFS because of both their competitive rates and the attentiveness of their loan officer, Nancy Taylor. She did an outstanding job of shepherding them through the buying process and accommodating the sometimes erratic demands of the seller and her broker, all with much grace and patience. It was refreshing to find that level of service and attention to detail. Based on what we experienced, I would not hesitate to recommend their mortgage service.
