We recently had a one night stay in room 405 and it was interesting. The place is dated, I'm sure in some parts due to it being historical and having to follow certain rules but this is even dated for dated. Our room was listed as a junior suite which is a room with a spiral staircase that leads up to what looks like an old war hospital room. We chose not to sleep up there. The main queen bed was not comfy. Chairs were stained. Decor was so odd and old and dusty. The only new thing was the TV and the shower.
The bathroom was bizarre. There is an up to date walk in shower with a half wall that is way too short and causes water to get it everywhere. The toilet was very old and seat was hanging on by a thread. The water pressure was meh and temp not hot enough. The elevator was so so so so old and terrifying, we opted for the steps.
The lobby and tea or sitting areas were nice. I wish the rooms were this nice. Front desk reception was very nice and helpful, no complaints there. I just think it'd be better to focus on those rooms and not daily tea at 7 PM.
The location is perfect though. Nice quick walk to everything in town.
Overall, pics on their site are misleading which stinks because the room was not worth the price charged, especially on a Tuesday night.

We stayed at the Garrison Inn for 3 nights on our recent fall trip. Although the rooms are a little dated (I prefer quaint), they’re clean and plenty spacious. The Inn is located within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, and the cooked-to-order breakfasts were great. The tea room was also a nice way to end the day!

Couldn’t love this place more! Super convenient parking. Rooms are stunning. Service was amazing. Cookies and tea every night from 7-10 and amazing breakfast (salmon scramble, breakfast sandwich, yogurt and granola, OJ and grapefruit juice and much more). Great location too

Limited breakfast as chef off ill both days we stayed.
Day 1 understandable, day 2 unacceptable.
If a substitute chef could not be obtained then it isn’t that difficult to cook some bacon and eggs.

The reviews you read online about their horrible customer service are unfortunately spot on. I had my bridal shower here and I will never recommend this location to anyone. I called a week in advance of the event to request approval for my dog to attend my bridal shower. The woman I spoke with said "of course! Your dog is more than welcome. Thank you for checking ahead of time". Fast forward to my bridal shower - the waitress was WILDLY rude & unprofessional in front of 40 of my closest friends and family stating that my dog wasn't welcome and he wasn't behaving well. Mind you - he is a dog. Was he perfect? No. But that is a price you pay for being a dog-friendly establishment. However, nothing about their attitude screamed "dog-friendly". We immediately apologized as he is a puppy, a hyper Labrador (who had just gotten groomed beforehand) and she proceeded to make a scene in front of ALL 40 of my bridal shower guests raising her voice and making an embarrassment of herself and Garrison Inn management. I will NOT be back. My event was fabulous thanks to my closest friends and family - no thanks to the waitress that does not know how to treat paying customers. If my dog wasn't welcome, or if he was welcome but had to have 100% perfect demeanor and behavior - that should've been communicated when I called beforehand. When I called after the event to notify management of the waitress' behavior, the "manager" told me that I should be embarrassed for how my dog acted and that since they have such a small staff, they would have known if I called in advance to request approval for my dog's attendance. Essentially, they were implying that I lied about the conversation I had with the front desk clerk that answered my phone call. They need to get their communication in order because quite frankly, they're a mess and should be ashamed for how they acted. I would avoid this place at all costs if I were you! The way they treat consumers is horrifying.

For my birthday celebration, my husband planned a trip to Newburyport to revisit a place near to my heart. We decided to stay at the Garrison Inn. When we arrived we were welcomed with open arms and a big smile. Jody and her staff were so accommodating and we felt right at home. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning, made to order by Stu. Unfortunately our trip was unexpectedly cut short due to the death of my husband’s best friend. When we told Jody the bad news she was comforting and helpful in making arrangements for us to get back home. Everything about the Garrison Inn was wonderful and my husband is planning a trip back with me this fall. We would definitely recommend this beautiful historic hotel. Special shout out to Jody, Hannah,Kimberly,Stuart and Megan!

Great location. Wonderful staff. Nice rooms and facilities. Afternoon tea is simple yet convenient, provides a place to meet and something to do while you are waiting for fellow travelers or transitioning from one activity to another.
Walkability: 4 minutes walk to anywhere downtown.

This historic property is in desperate need of an update and clearly has been resting on its laurels (and excellent location) for years... Bathroom was 70s-vintage and the towels were Holiday Inn-quality. Not to mention the broken toilet seat. Crummy and unreliable window air conditioning. No amenities or other services of any kind, other than a single $5 bottle of water, they recommended a convenience store down the street for a cold soft drink. Every Hampton inn I've ever stayed at was a better experience than this, and considering the price, this may be the worst hotel stay I've ever had. Do better, Garrison inn.

We stayed here along with many other guests who were attending a family wedding over Labor Day weekend. Newburyport is a great setting for a wedding, but equally import to the setting is the accommodations. The Garrison Inn delivered the goods on that front. But what really stood out to myself and the other guests was the Manager Jody and her staff. No detail was overlooked, every question was answered and we were always greeted with smiles, asked if there was anything we needed and made to feel like it was our own personal Inn. I work in the Customer Service / Experience field and would give 5 stars across the board to Jody and her staff. I wondered if they ever slept! The Garrison Inn is a must stay if you are visiting that area and along with all the great memories of the wedding, the Garrison Inn provided all of us with even more fantastic memories. By the time we all checked out, it felt like the Garrison Inn, Jody, and her staff were part of the collective event, Great setting, awesome accommodations, and dedicated and invested staff all contributed to a unbelievable destination weekend get-a-way, which will be remembered for a long time! Well Done.

Upon arrival in the spring of 2023, there was visible mold in the room around the window, air conditioner and other portions of the room at the exterior walls. The daily breakfast was nice and the staff was generally friendly but refused to respond to our complaints about the mold in our guest room. We stayed with a group of travelers who observed the same in other guest rooms, even 'presidential suites'. Following our stay at the Garrison Inn, our family all got very sick which we attest to the musty, moldy conditions of the room. I strongly advise against staying here if at all possible.Rooms: Rooms were musty and very moldy. We became sick after staying here.Safety: After seeing mold in guest rooms, and becoming sick after staying here, I contest that it is not a safe or healthy place to stay.Food & drinks: The breakfast was made to order and was quite enjoyable. The coffee was good.

If you want a hotel in the middle if this beautiful town, this is the place. I've been many times for business and am never disappointed. Rooms are lovely, owners friendly, breakfast is made-to-order everyday. One block from both downtown and the water. Picture perfect.
