Everyone here was helpful and I adopted Hazel over a year ago. I am very satisfied with my experience. If you can't adopt, this is also a great place to donate to. A+.

I wish I could take all the animals there home with me wonderful people there that take in animals and care for them and try to find them homes. Most all of them volunteer their time to do this. So please if you're ever in the New Bedford area please stop by there donate food for the animals if you can, or volunteer to help out in other ways, maybe even adopt one...Please Every little bit helps these loving animals that just want a loving home and to be loved by someone to have a meal everyday. ????

Okay, I posted a review in 2020 about how they allowed me to adopt a dog and then tricked me into giving him back after we had signed the paperwork and brought him home. I'm writing again because for SOME reason, my post is on the *4 more posts, not recommended* and doesn't show up unless you click that. It makes it look like this place has only gotten 5 star ratings. Not true. Also I noticed another post of someone who gave a bad review and it has 5 stars which seems accidental.Anyway I am posting again today because I have just received an email that they are USING MY REVIEW PHOTOS for the yelp page?!? What the heck??? That seems ridiculous, none of those photos were taken at the facility. They were all taken from my bad review of them, while the dog was in my care to basically show that 1) I had him and 2) he was happy.THANKS FOR OPENING UP THIS WOUND AGAIN LIGHTHOUSE ANIMAL SHELTER. These people steal dogs and break hearts, they're crazy disorganized, and I wish they would shut down. Not sure if I mentioned it in my first review, but when we originally went to look at Ghost the first time, the staff let another dog out off leash into the yard with us without asking. I thought that was totally inappropriate. Often shelter dogs even if they don't have serious issues can be stressed by shelter life. Why would you think it appropriate to put us in that situation without our consent?I hate this place.

There is always a dog here that just absolutely warms my heart. Consider adoption! My wife and I fostered a dog for over a month who had such an impact on us. We cherished the experience and may do it again in the future! Fostering, volunteering, donating, dog walking, adopting, or even offering your services -- there is a large number of ways that you can help this place out! Please consider helping in whatever way is most comfortable.

My parents fostered Tankie from this shelter. Then they adopted him because they fell in love. This shelter rescues so many animals and takes such great care of them while they are in their hands. The volunteers really love what they do and are fully committed to finding each dog the perfect match. P.S. – The are a totally volunteer run organization!! Just every day people like you and me, so make sure you give them an extra smile or thank you next time you see them. Thanks, Lighthouse!

The animals there are so happy and loving, that it proves the staff give the animals the best treatment that can ever be expected.

I had an awesome experience with the staff and volunteers at Lighthouse.I originally applied to adopt a different dog. The processing of the application took about a week or so and when I called to ask they assured me I would hear back, which I did. When I did hear back they said my situation was not a good fit for the dog I was asking to adopt. They then sent a photo of a different dog, which they said would be a better match. When I went to meet the dog I ended up adopting the staff was up front and honest about the situation. Stella was clearly nervous around new people. The whole first visit she wouldn't come closer than an extended arms reach away, and that was only for the treats. The staff however encouraged me to come back once or twice and she would warm up to me. It took three trips in total over three days but by the end I had a new best fur friend and Stella (the dog) found a forever home. They team is great, they are first and foremost concerned about finding the right fit for a dog. They give as much information as possible and they even followed up two days later to check in. I highly reccomend this team to anyone looking to adopt, its a great alternative to going to a breeder and they are clearly passionate about matching a dog with the fight owner. Trust the reccomendations they give you and you'll find the right dog!

My family and I had a great experience with the folks at Lighthouse. The first time we went we got to visit with multiple pups and we walked away with a couple in mind. After bringing our dog for a meet and greet it became apparent which pup had to go home with us. Thank you so much for all you do for these animals and for the opportunity to bring home our boy, Burton Guster. He’s been a joy and we love him already.

I adopted a dog from Lighthouse in Jan, and he is the most loving dog I have ever met. Working with the volunteers at Lighthouse was a great experience, they love all of the animals that come through their doors. They really try to match a dog by best fit and not first come first served- they are honest and up front and want to set everyone up for success. As a rescue, they are patient and kind and do not try to rush anyone into choosing a dog and if it doesn’t work out, Lighthouse will offer advice to help solve the problem or the dog can be returned without any hard feelings. A truly wonderful organization!!!

Lighthouse Animal Shelter did an amazing job matching us with our pup! We submitted our application and within a day or two we received an email that we were approved. That weekend we were told that there was a possible match for our family and were invited in to meet her. Since that meeting we have loved our Dakota and she is a perfect fit for our family. The process was easy and the volunteers were fantastic. I highly recommend Lighthouse when searching for your next family member!

I was extremely pleased with the adoption experience at Lighthouse Animal Shelter. I had my eye on a Coonhound pictured on the website. I was encouraged to come meet the dog, play with him in the yard, and take him for a walk at a park where he would meet people, other dogs, and perhaps a squirrel or two. The staff was friendly, informative, and obviously had the best interest of the dogs at heart. As a result, I adopted a goofy, lovable Coonhound named Jasper!

Lighthouse is such an amazing shelter! Their staff is so friendly and compassionate about the well-being of their animals. They have a thorough application process to ensure it's the right fit for both the family and the animal. It is so fun to watch the animals get rescued and adopted via their active social media presence. Thank you Lighthouse Animal Shelter for everything to you do day in and day out.

Can’t say enough about the great experience we had at Lighthouse Animal Shelter. The group of volunteers who work there genuinely care about finding the animals rescued there their perfect match. After filling out our application and getting pre-approved for adoption, Nicole worked tirelessly to find a dog that fit our lifestyle and preferences. We foster to adopted our dog, Luna, and Lighthouse was very attentive and helpful with every question or concern we had along the way. We are so happy with the addition to our family and will definitely be visiting again if we ever expand our fur family.
