Had a horrific experience with one of your bank tellers the other day, Brian was professional at first but basically kept giving me a hard time and asking me all these ridiculous questions that I wasn’t asked prior before when trying to withdraw some money from my savings account. I then asked for a manager which had no problem at all allowing me to withdraw money from my account. I believe I am going to close my account and bank somewhere else after this experience I have had with needham banking. Other wise everybody else was super friendly and professional.

I recently applied and got approved for a loan from Needham bank to purchase a condo. My loan officer was Lori Schofield, and she provided an exceptional service. I initially reached out to her after placing a buy-offer at a different property. After reviewing it she candidly warned me about the high risks of that property, and probably saved my life. Later when I found a better place, she enthusiastically helped me get started with the loan process, and quoted me an interest rate much lower than other banks. I was a bit skeptical at first, especially with all the bad reviews this bank has had in the past. But, when I brought this up to Lori, she assured me that things had changed and I could count on their services to get me a loan on time. During the loan review process, Lori's team was highly attentive towards each detail about the property. They uncovered potential issues, and closely inspected each issue to ensure that I was buying a safe home (and also to protect the bank's investment). There was one particular instance, where I was not able to obtain documents pertaining to a certain issue. However, they went above and beyond to seek out different sources that helped us in getting the required paperwork. They were also very responsive every time I reached out to them with questions and concerns, and took time to properly explain each step of the loan. I want to thank Lori and her team for making my home buying process very easy, and highly recommend their services to anyone doing the same.

I reached out to the president of residential lending to see if he wanted to hear about my experience prior to writing this review. He didn't respond. I was not surprised by that. Our previous home was financed through NB bc at the time they had a great reduced closing cost program. During the height of Covid, they were very fair with us. So, I decided to use them for another purchase of our primary residence. I wish I had not. The loan officer I worked with and his processor were incredibly disorganized, lacked professionalism and communicated with me on average about a week after I would ask questions via email and would typically would only answer one or two questions. We purchased during the height of the interest rate raises. Before they started climbing it was apparent that our closing would be pushed out by the sellers and we would lose our rate. I voiced my concerns about this and was told that "we are very fair when it comes to assigning your rate". A couple of weeks later rates when up and we were forced into a higher %. It was then that I was sent my commitment to sign which stated that we could pay an extra .25 to lock in a lower rate. I wonder why they didn't tell me this before? It was also around this time that we had to sign the "anti-steering" form. Basically, it states that they gave you every option available to choose from. Our officer did not do so, but at this point I was committed and with a tricky purchase/sale and two young kids we could not afford to start over. The attorney they assigned to our closing (without any mention to us) was also quite disorganized. The way the closing dates were structured I stressed over and over that there was no room for error and that everything needed to be on time. They had 90+ days to figure it all out so I thought it wouldn't be a problem. In the end, we closed the deal at noon on the day they were supposed to close asap in the morning- costing me 3 extra hours with our movers. The attorney and I had talked about this extensively but for some reason they did not submit to the registry until 11AM. I am honestly shocked that the loan closed at all given the way things went. The attorney showed up at closing with the wrong figures and I had to figure out the balance- even though they had already drawn up the CD. The commitment letter that I had to sign also had incorrect figures differing by about 75k. I was told that it couldn't be changed, it should be fine, and to just sign it. Closing costs (lender originated) were about 30% higher than we were told. There is more, but I can't be bothered to think about this any more. We closed 16 days ago- I haven't heard a single word from the loan officer or anyone from the bank. Not a thank you, not a congrats, no info on when we need to make our first payment, NADA. This loan, if not refinanced or paid early will net NB over 500k in interest. In the online system, the correct payment information is still not reflected. --Buying a home is the most important purchase of most people's lives. The cavalier attitude, unprofessionalism, and zero appreciation of my business as a customer, albeit returning customer, associated with my experience reminds me of a long phone call with Comcast or Verizon. As a real estate agent I have unique insight into these processes- I will never recommend NB as a lender and I strongly suggest that you do not use them.

Spent a lot of time with the construction loan team for my house in Massachusetts and got nowhere. These people really know how to make a seemingly straightforward process be as bureaucratic as possible. This bank made me go through a really arduous process for my construction to mortgage loan only to agree to finance me 20% of the loan I needed. If I knew they were going to be so stringent on their loan terms, I would not have applied, but they made me through it all (mountains of paperwork) anyway. I needed a construction loan for $1mm. That was the price of my project as laid out by my contractor. Needham bank thought the Reno was only worth $200k. Can you believe that? Waste of time and drove me crazy. Happily took my business elsewhere. I also lost $600 in the process. I also wonder if they are discriminating against people of color since I am a person of color, but yet have excellent credit and substantial assets. They obviously don't care about getting good new clients or about helping to support people of color. The guy I worked with is Frank Driscoll. Nice guy, cordial, but very unhelpful and he probably doesn't care as long as his job is safe.

Beware the SCAM! I spent an hour uploading personal and private information in order to open a checking account. In spite of my perfect banking record and high credit score, they denied me a checking account. And they won't tell me why, in conflict with Federal regulations. It appears that they are collecting private, confidential information for their own use, whatever that may be.RESPONSE to "Response from owner": You understand incorrectly. No one has "reached out to me" to solve the problem. There may be incorrect information on a record that needs correcting.

I had a personal checking account and a business account. All went well until I sent a polite letter pointing out that it is improper, and not good practice, to make online passwords expire. Why should they, if they are perfectly good and uncompromised? Nor is it proper to prevent me from seeing the new password as I type it (twice). Did I mention that this was a polite letter? I was only trying to be helpful. A week later, I got two certified letters cancelling both of my accounts. I see that Needham Bank gets only three stars in reviews here. Now I know why. In fact, I am surprised it is that many.

Believe the 1-star reviews. Absolutely horrible. Avoid at all costs unless you enjoy having people waste your time. So far, this bank has managed to take 4 MONTHS on a loan process that should take no more than 3 weeks tops. After filling out mountains of paperwork, scrambling to meet their requirements, and sending it to them, they tell me TWO WEEKS LATER that they hadn't received my updated documents. Utter nonsense. Even if it weren't completely unacceptable, it's a total joke. I uploaded the documents to THEIR SECURED SYSTEM. There is no way they could have missed them. Another week goes by after I ask them to clarify what they need, and they don't get back to me, not even to say they are working on it. I have written multiple emails to different people at their bank inquiring about this very thing. They either do not check their emails or simply don't care to respond. I have sent 5-6 emails on another issue just asking a basic question. It took them ANOTHER WEEK to get back to me with a half-assed answer which equated to "we will get back to you." Just in the past three days, I sent them three emails with absolutely no response of any kind. One person was on vacation (they never set a vacation auto-responder, of course, so I was clueless as to why they didn't respond), and one of the other people I corresponded with was crickets. When they told me someone else could help me, I reached out to them, but I encountered the very same unresponsiveness. They leave me no choice. They are literally the only thing keeping me back from starting my business and today was the last straw. I'm done waiting for them to prove they can handle customer service like professionals. I told myself I would send this review to Yelp and let them know I didn't want their business if I didn't hear from them by 3:30, so here we are. They have managed to waste 4 months of my time and demonstrated a level of incompetent unprofessionalism that is nothing short of miraculous. I'm going with a bank that actually bothers to respond to its potential clients. How they manage to stay afloat as a business is a mystery. Look at some of the other 1 star reviews and you'll get an idea of how awfully slow and obtuse they are. I have rarely encountered this level of disregard from any type of business and don't usually leave a scathing review, but I suppose businesses like Needham Bank really do exist and they deserve all the negative attention they can get. Keep away!

I have been a customer of Needham Bank for over 25 years.. The people are so helpful as well as kind. I love going somewhere where employees appear to really enjoy their jobs. I bought a car recently and a few of the customer service reps searched and found a shiny new penny for me to put under my mat for good luck. This is just a small example, however it meant a lot to me. I do my personal, and business banking here and have always been given plenty of time and top rate customer service to help me with my banking goals. If you’re searching for a new bank, Needham Bank is your best choice.Patti Forte

Been my bank for decades. I have never had an unpleasant experience. There's always someone to Answer a question, and the tellers treat you like you're the only customer in the bank. I am so grateful to have this Hometown Bank as my financial institution. Definitely recommend.

I have been with this bank for close to 2 years and I am totally disappointed with their online banking. It is not straight forward and many times I have to call their company to get instructions on how to make simple changes. I find this extremely frustrating and have complained numerous times. Nothing changes. I have also told the reps that I will close my account at the year-end and their response is nonchalant. It is in my calendar to close this account year-end and go back to my original bank and get the service I deserve as a customer.
