Poor customer service. Call and wait for help and then they tell you to call someone else. Really poor employee quality and training. I was returning their phone call and message. They could not be bothered to look at the account ask questions or anything. No way would I trust this company for anything. These are the situations in which customers get stuck with bills as a result of poor communication and business ethics.

I used them 20+ years ago, diagnosed my Charcot Marie Tooth, we new I hD issues in 1976 but no labs were equipped to assist in my diagnoses, they identified the duplication of PMP22, and finally had a real answer to my symptoms. I have not looked for any other facility for genetic testing. Thank you Athena for putting a name to my condition

They told me they had to run a sample right away based on stability of the sample and that's why they couldn't call and get a pre-authorization on an 850$ test. Unfortunately for them, I know the specimen has a 10 day stability. When I asked why the they lied to me they said they actually meant something different.

Very quick results. I had a hard time getting results from doctors office but Athena helped me out. Everyone that I spoke to was very courteous and took care of what needed to be done.

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I plan to beg my doctor to STOP ordering any test that Athena processes. They are impossible to work with and ridiculously expensive

It is May 8, and we are still waiting on results from bloodwork done by Athena on March 16 for my mother who is declining rapidly. Every week they promise it will be ready the following Monday. I will be filing further complaints; however, figured I would start here. Completely unethical business practices.

I would give this company a zero if it were possible. I had a genetic test for a debilitating neurological condition. I was told the lab would call of the cost was over $250. I received no call, and two months later, I received a **** for $2,175 instead. I went back and forth between my insurance and this lab. My insurance actually covered this test but the wrong codes were submitted by the lab. I had the codes resubmitted but they were incorrect. I would have never had the test run knowing it could cost over 2k, but I was never given the option. They called me in December and told me the debt was being written off since I was never made aware of the cost. Three months later, I get a call saying I owe the 2k and that they were sending me to collections! I dont know any business that says something will cost under $250, then charges you $2175?!?!?!... DO NOT CONDUCT ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! Your insurance company most likely does not cover anything they do anyway. If there was an option for zero stars I would happily choose that option. I don't understand how Athena is even a legal business. My purpose in this post is not to vent. I simply want to let as many people know about this so they don't suffer the same aggravation and stress that my wife and I went through.

At first...They don't accept most insurances. You will get stuck with a HUGE bill.

My doctor ordered an important blood test required to diagnose my condition. Athena contacted me to say they would not do a pre authorization with my insurance for the test. They told me the test cost $12,000. There is no blood test known to mankind that should cost $12,000.

The only reason this review has one star is because that is the only way I can post it. Athena did NOT disclose what the cost would be upfront and the website touts that 85% of patients pay no more than $800 for testing. BUT, you must qualify based on income. For those middle class families that do not qualify (and whose insurance will not cover the test), they will be faced with an expense that is way beyond usual, reasonable or customary. The staff at Athena were less than sympathetic. They would not negotiate their fee to something more reasonable and only evaded our requests to do so. Someone please tell me how Athena Diagnostics can justify charging $13,000 for a genetic test. It is downright unethical and, frankly, criminal.
