I both love and hate this place. They are probably one of the best full service lumber yards around and their products are great quality. Prices are mixed. Default costs are very high, but they can be competitive if you ask for a bid package. Service is so so. Generally everyone seems nice enough and tries to be helpful, but I have had issues with special orders several times, probably 25% of my experiences here.

Mathew and the Gilbert and Cole crew provide outstanding materials and service. This should never be overlooked as expected behavior. The crew members separate themselves from all the other lumber yards on the Northshore and beyond.

Gilbert & Cole is our favorite hardware store in Marblehead. Everybody there is super knowledgable and helpful, and we can always find what we need. When we were working on a big home project, we sourced all of our lumber from Gilbert & Cole and have been very happy with the quality and pricing. If you are looking for a great local hardware store, we highly recommend Gilbert & Cole.
