About Hartwell Tavern
Hartwell Tavern is a historically significant building of the Revolutionary War era, known as a place where the first blood was drawn. The tavern itself is only open when the Park Service does events there, but it remains a popular stop. It is located at a central intersection of a ton of different hiking paths. The trails are crushed gravel and compacted dirt. The site features very knowledgeable history re-enactors who relate the life and times of the period and provide lots of great information regarding that time and the revolutionary war. The location has a much nicer parking lot than some other stops, with more spots, paved asphalt, and lots of trees for shade. There is a real bathroom near the parking lot, signs about park programming, and a bike rack. It is a short walk from the lot to the tavern itself, offering a nice visit with lots of history.
