I was skeptical about this Banfield as I’ve always steered clear of vets inside big box stores (I get the premise, but still seems odd), but overall ended up with a pleasant experience. Dr. Vera was knowledgeable, honest, and personable, even sitting on the floor with my senior boxer who gets anxious at appointments. He didn’t try to sell me on any particular course of treatment and instead focused on informing me of options so that I can make the best decisions. His technician that day was also wonderful, and very attentive. I highly recommend Dr. Vera!Feedback: dusty exam room that could benefit from improved cleaning/organization practices.

I took my dog here a few years ago to get spayed and they almost killed her. They ignored all signs of internal bleeding all day to the point where I had to take her to an emergency vet and when we got there they said they needed to give her transfusions and open her back up to stop the bleeding or she would die soon. She was 1 year old. Thankfully the emergency vet saved her life but I would never recommend anyone take their dogs there for any kind of surgery. However, their exoctic animal vet was great at clearing our rabbits ear mites that we had adopted with said mites. DO NOT take your dogs there!!!

I WILL NOT BE BACK.Overall awful experience. Please read in full, ugh.I made an appointment 2 weeks ago to get my new puppy his shots and do a meet and greet with my other dog because I recently moved to the area and needed a new regular vet.Experience 1 - They called about 3 days before the appointment just to confirm. They had hung up and a little while later it dawned on me that they never asked for a stool sample from either of my dogs. I called back and asked if I should bring a sample with me and they said "oh yeah if you could do that it would be great". The incompetence was terrible here.Experience 2 - Arriving at the appointment 5 minutes early, we get checked into the room to wait for the assistant and doctor. About 30 minutes go by before someone comes in. There was no heads up by reception that they're running behind. The assistant comes in, fails to introduce herself, ignores my dogs, and starts typing away on the computer for 15 minutes trying to sell us insurance while asking me questions about my dogs in between. Aren't these doctors supposed to treat our pets like their own? And greet us kindly? Anyway, I am getting a bad vibe at this point so I do everything in my power to do what's best for my dogs. My puppy needed shots and my dog needed bloodwork to check for heartworm. The assistant said she "would take them in the back soon" but I insisted that they do it in the room. And not to my surprise they manhandled my dogs to take what they needed with NO REWARD OR TREAT afterwards. My previous vet used cheese and crackers for my dog previously and she was so happy and distracted that they didn't have to hold her and my dog had no idea that she got shots. But now my dogs are traumatized from this place. Then the doctor (DR KARIN HARTER) comes in, also fails to introduce herself or greet me or the dogs. My dogs excitedly go near her and smell her and she AGGRESSIVELY pushes my dogs away and yells. This is absolutely absurd. She does the physical exam on both my dogs and calls one of them morbidly obese even though realistically she's 2 pounds overweight, DR KARIN HARTER WAS SO DRAMATIC! She acted like I was the worst dog parent on the planet. Typical Karen, am I right? Oh by the way, they won't call about stool sample results unless they're positive for something. They should call no matter what. I don't care if no news is good news.Experience 3 - A few days later I get a call and Banfield Hospital ID shows up so I answer and DR KARIN HARTER is on the line. I answered "Hi this is Taylor" and with no greeting she saids "Kona has a parasite we need to treat her". Wow, I cannot believe the manners from this DR KARIN HARTER. She continues and says "Since Kona is so fat, we have to give her a higher dose." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I asked what the parasite is and she proceeded to tell me that it's Coccidia. I ask her to tell me more about it and how to prevent it in the future and THE DOCTOR TELLS ME TO GOOGLE IT. WHAT!?!?I WILL NOT BE BACK.

Our Berner rescue Rosie had been a patient at Banfield since 2019. We take her in with even the smallest concern. Rosie has been limping for years; she can't even walk around the block due to her joint pain. She has been into Banfield consistently for years for this issue, and we're constantly told "it's arthritis" and there's nothing they can do aside from prescribe medication for pain management.Earlier this week, Rosie was outside in the yard when we heard a yelp and she stopped putting weight on her left hind leg. We called Banfield immediately who would not schedule her for an appointment until November 30. We called around to emergency vets and had her seen by a different animal hospital. Almost instantly into the appointment, the emergency vet identified a full CCL tear in her RIGHT leg (which Banfield told us there was nothing they could do multiple times for years), and a fresh partial tear in her left leg caused by compensation. We are now looking at two separate CCL surgeries, costing $5k+/ each, one of which was preventable had Banfield done their job properly instead of just brushing off our concerns as "just arthritis" and then prescribing medication for something requiring serious medical attention. We downloaded the notes from all of Rosie's visits. There are no notes regarding the reason for visit, only labs and medications prescribed. It is apparent that Banfield is not a business for animal care, but rather a business that's sole purpose is to shuffle animals in and out daily, racking up medication bills, while failing to provide proper medical treatments for animals in need.I would give less than 1 star if yelped allowed. Avoid Banfield at all cost!!

Came for a grooming, was not as good of an experience as usual. Service was slow? Seemed like the groomer was unsure of what they were doing.

Most of the staff is friendly and helpful. They do drop offs for the routine appointments and teeth cleaning, which is convenient. The wellness plans are an excellent alternative to traditional pet insurance, so you're not dropping hundreds of $ every time you go in. The one thing that I really don't like is that when a dog is dropped off at 7 am for a dental cleaning, they won't get to go out to potty until you come to pick them up which is generally not until the afternoon. There have been multiple times that I've picked up my pup, and he had dried diarrhea all over his bottom and tail that they couldn't have been bothered to clean off.

I chose to take my french bulldog puppy to Banfield in Newton because that was the quickest appointment I could get. They asked me if I wanted to purchase their companys wellness plan that would cover every Banfield location in the US, I told them yes. My puppies stool came back with parasites and the Newton Banfield called me and let me know. They understood why I traveled 45 minutes to them and told me I could goto a Banfield closer to me to pick up the medication because it was on file. I spoke with Laura (Manager) at Banfield in Leominster and she told me I could not pick up his medication there because they never seen him?!?! I signed up for the Banfield Wellness Plan that I was told covered all locations in the US!!! She was the most ignorant person to speak to. I would never recommend Banfield in Leominster to anyone!!!

Three times (phone & in person) I've spoken to a man who did not read notes written on my pet's account. Had he taken a few moments to read through the notes, he would have saved me a lot of time as well as multiple times calling back/stopping in. This last time, when asked why the cost of medicine nearly doubled in a month, he responded it was the economy. Thank goodness, once I got home, I checked the mg for the medicine. The vet had doubled the mg. Had I not seen that & given my pet the same amount of medicine, my pet could have suffered much harm...or worse. There are some really good people who work there, though, but this person needs to understand no one works every day/every shift, & it is important to read all the notes on an account. I assume next time I call, should he answer, I will ask to speak to anyone else.
