We always used to hold our USCSA Ski/Snowboarding Team "Mid-Winter Season Retreats" here every MLK Weekend. Our: "Ski Team ?️ home" was Berkshire East; so Stump Sprouts made sense in terms of a local retreat spot. Our end of Season Retreats were always held in different locations at the end of each Winter (often at various ?️'s around the country & in ?? sometimes too following USCSA Nationals), SO, Stump Sprouts therefore grounded us as a Western Massachusetts-based team. One of our racers was from Great Barrington, so she was the one who initially recommended it as a retreat spot.
At only 45 minutes from the Amherst/Northampton area (since we were a Five College Consortium team from Hampshire College) Stump Sprouts wasn't a HUGE drive from our campus. We held our Mid-Winter Retreats here from 1994-1999; I don't know where the team has held them since.
Stump Sprouts is an AH-MAHZING place! Reminded me a LOT of my Summer Camp up in Vermont. We were a team of 10, and sometimes we'd be a group of about 11+ people, so the Lodge was therefore PERFECT for our needs, and we'd X-Country ?, do team-building exercises in the Barn, and head to Berkshire East to downhill train. Some of my FONDEST college memories were being at Stump Sprouts with my Team.
Stump Sprouts ROCKS!!! ?

An excellent place for skiing! The description on the website is 100% correct — there was lots of snow and excellent conditions even after spring had arrived at lower elevations.

Snowshoed on some lovely trails. Small parking lots but it means you never feel crowded out on the trails.

First off Google maps has this places location a bit down the road. You have to drive a 1/4 - 1/2 mile further up the road to get here. There is a second larger lot that is closer to the trails above the smaller lot with the sign next to the old barn. I would recommend parking there as you don’t have to negotiate a steep hill from the get go.I took my 5 year old son up here and we had a blast. The trails were not groomed which made them a little challenging. It did make for some good technique practice that is harder to do at the immaculately groomed resorts. The woods are absolutely beautiful and the area has a very rustic charm that is hard to beat.I would love to come here again and ski and explore further into the woods. They have quite an extensive network of trails.

We had a great time skiing on the wooded trails, there were lots of other skiiers, and we could follow the trails with the maps and tree markers. Very pleasant experience. We picked up our rentals very easily and even exchanged our shoes for a different size. Thanks for making this a great experience!

Second time XC skiing and had a blast! The owner was super friendly and gave us very helpful tips of which trails to hit. We hit the beginner loops a few times before moving on to the regular trails. It's really pretty out there and lots of trails for varying skill levels. Definitely worth a visit!

Lloyd and Suzanne are the perfect hosts. The accommodations are clean and comfortable. The food is spectacular... as fresh and organic as can be. Any special dietary need, let them know ahead of time and they will do their best to accommodate. Trails, nicely groomed and so much fun. Views breathtaking.
