The Fitchburg Art Museum not only provides a venue for regional artists to showcase their work - and for locals and schoolchildren to learn from them - but also puts on rotating exhibitions of contemporary pieces that are often in multiple media and allude to current topics and social concerns. When I stopped by recently, a photo exhibit that probed the way that gender is portrayed in society illuminated what a bridge between two halves of the museum where you would otherwise look outwards as you traverse it. Another exhibit visualized the "bodega of my dreams" as a metaphor and microcosm of the experiences and hopes of the Latin American community in Central Massachusetts. There were also galleries examining African, Oceanic, and ancient Egyptian art. Definitely something provocative at every corner. Endearingly, there was also plenty of space where kids could create work of their own, particularly an area inspired by Fitchburg's paper mill history.

Great midsized museum close to downtown Fitchburg. Parking is available on and off street. Admission is$9 for adults. There are multiple levels and buildings to the museum. They also showcase art made by students at local colleges, alongside rotating exhibits. I enjoyed their ancient Egyptian exhibit, and their displays on the history of Fitchburg’s paper mills

If you are black and you don't want to be harassed by the white security guards please do not come here. They racially profile. The front desk told me that this is happened on several occasions with the same security guard and that the supervisor does not want to do anything and agrees with his actions. Nick the director is a good guy is too bad he has this under his belt. I'm in the middle of filing a report against them. I have videos I will not post here. Stay tuned

I took my 6 year old and 1 year old sons to see some art. We had a wonderful time. Jeanine was working in the African exhbit and she was so wonderful. She took so much time to explain the exhibits to us and showed my son all of the hands on experiences. She even asked that he set aside what he uses so that she can disinfect it after use. That made me feel a sense of relief that she cared so much. She was so friendly and knowledgable. She really is such an asset to FAM and we hope to see her again on our next visit, we learned so much from her. The price is very reasonable, however my local library had a pass to get in for free and so I did not have to pay on this day. It was an absolutely beautiful museum and we will be back!

It was a small, but fun art museum with lots of rare artifacts(Egyptian& African)! We ended up spending over 2 hours with my kids(6 &10 years old). It was also very quiet so we could enjoy the art at the museum without any distraction.

This is an AMAZING place…truly an unexpected gem in the middle of Fitchburg. The people are great - even security guards (ensuring the treasures are properly treated) engaged my eight-year-old guest about the art. FAM was a critical component of homeschooling for us, back in the 1990s. Oh, and the admission is free for many and minimal for others!

We want to see the Regional Artists Exhibit today, and enjoyed it. We also had a little time to look around at a few other things, and in our minds compared this is Norcross to Isabella Stewart Gardner. Both were art lovers but one had a little more money!
