My wife had major back surgery and she was released to Spaulding for intense rehab. Almost from they day she arrived, they decided she was going to be released on a specific date to a skilled nursing facility (SNF) before they even started to work with her. After the first two days, they said they had to release her under Medicare guidelines because she could not do 3 hours a day of therapy due to her pain. By day 3, she was able to do the therapy and they said she was making good progress, but they were still going to release her on the scheduled date. In my conversation with her doctor, he agreed she would benefit from the 3 hours of rehab they provide as opposed to the 1 hour of rehab she will get in a SNF. He eventually admitted that Medicare was dictating her length of stay. After leaning on the doctor, he admitted he could ask Medicare to extend her release date, but in the end, he refused. Apparently, even though the patient care is excellent, Spaulding is more concerned about not making waves with Medicare even if it means shortchanging the patient on the care they agree she would benefit from. My next step will be to contact whoever is the head of the Spaulding system.

I received excellent treatment during my 3 week stay in March of 2019. The nurses at Spaulding are outstanding!

This is probably one of THE BEST rehabilitation centers in Massachusetts and is absolutely the best I've ever been to!ALL of the staff from Security guards to the doctors seem to be The most genuinely nice and caring people that I have ever met...!EVERYONE on staff has no problem with talking to you and getting to know you and your issues/problems and do their very best to help you, from pain management to Logistics this place tries thieir hardest to accommodate you!If I was FORCED to find something wrong with thos place then I'd say the food could be better,I'd rate it a " C" however they do their best for you foodwose as well.....if you find something you enjoy they will give you extra if asked AND IF your Diet restrictions allow certain foods, that's the most important thing!Although I never want to be In a facility like this again for this type of injury if I ever am this is the place I would recommend and want to go to all of my friends and family!

I believe this facility only takes patients that are 100% certain will recover under their ever-changing entry requirements. It was our rehab of choice on 3 different "acute" situations because we understood it was the "best." However it was always one flimsy excuse after another for not accepting him. 1st was back surgery...he had a cpap no can't take him. 2nd he fell and fractured his c7, no can't take him because of his medications, 3rd time bypass surgery still waiting for them to come up with yet another excuse. Caseworker says well they only take acute cases. He doesn't need long term care...he needs someone at spalding to care about him more than insurance money...fed up and disgusted!!!

Was referred by my primary to Spaulding for OT for a hand wrist injury. Based on my initial consultation I didn't think my OT was a good fit for me, or that Spaulding was a good fit because of the lack of flexibility with their scheduling. I called after one appointment and cancelled future appointments - not impressed and would not recommend this rehab hospital... this facility is much to busy to offer the care that I'm looking for as a person and a patient.

This is really one of the best rehab facilities you could ask for. The physical therapists are great. If you are here as an in patient after, say, a knee replacement like me, you are given a schedule every morning on when you will be doing your guided rehab and with whom. You may have two or three therapists working with you. Physical therapists and occupational therapists. A large sunny gym makes it pleasant. Pain management is well done, if one medication gives no relief or if it causes you side effects, the doctor will try you on something else until effectiveness is achieved. Nurses are great, the aids are great. There are a lot of people here recovering from operations, accidents, strokes, etc... but when you buzz for help it does not take very long before it arrives at your bedside. I am going home for a few weeks, and then will be back to do out patient rehab. I went from bawling pain to walking well with my walker in 7 days. Everyone is different, of course. But do the physical therapy, work through it, and then ice packs. I am also an amputee on my other leg. Ten years ago I went through rehab elsewhere. And I have visited many relatives in various rehabs. I recommend Spaulding. I am in Sandwich, Ma. The hospital in Boston is also stellar, they now take care of my residual limb on my amputated leg. Good luck!

Was at Spaulding for rehab after emergency back surgery. Dr Wennemer and both therapists Meghan & Meaghan did an outstanding job working (or as I called it beating me up lol) with me regain the ability to walk again. Entire staff at Spaulding were awesome as well. If you need a rehab facility this is the place to be.

Outstanding care in every way! I spent 3 weeks inpatient & several months outpatient here in March 2019 after a bad ski accident (compound fracture, broke my tibia & fibula as well as my wrist). The care I received both inpatient & outpatient was beyond excellent! The staff I worked with here were angels who worked night & day to help me get well again, physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually. I can honestly say they're miracle workers!

This is an absolutely amazing rehabilitation center. The staff is incredibly friendly & attentive. So happy my grandfather is in good hands there. Thank you to everyone for all the hard work you do! You’re appreciated so much. The solar parking lot is also AMAZING. Highly recommend Spaulding

Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly and attentive. I wasn't expecting to need rehabilitation nor was I expecting to be in the hospital but the care I received at this facility was exceptional. Even the personal care as Two of the members of staff even offered to help braid my hair in the morning. Shout out to Carline And Sarah Dowling as they went above and beyond for me as did everyone else. Sarah Jillian Wes and Rebecca as well as all the other members of my team were very compassionate and sympathetic to my needs and my anxiety about being away from home. Everyone helped me complete my therapy in record time so that I could go home to my family and I am so grateful for that. They made the best out of eggs and extremely bad situation and made me feel like I would be fine.

PT ‘team’ member Joan is a 1 star. She never introduced herself, clearly had never looked at the file or history prior to the session and was trying to catch up with a barrage of medical questions (without having to read all the info) while I was doing exercises. I stopped to speak to her and she brusquely told me to continue. She asked if the prior session (my first one where I was actually getting physical therapy) was helpful. I said not really for the pain. From there on, she was agitated. She demanded (very sneery in her speaking to me) to know who referred me here. I responded my GP. She demanded to know who my orthopedic and rhumatologists were (I don’t have them) because they should be referring patients- not a GP. This is completely false. I called her bluff and provided the name of the top orthopedic surgeon on the Cape. She didn’t know the name at all. When I asked her who she’d recommend she said — I don’t know the people on the Cape, I’m from off-Cape. Where’s your MRI? I said that Pat had entered all the information about the CT scan in the history last time and she says she liked to get all the info herself (wasting yet another session). Again more hustling (bristling) of questions without ever looking at me or at the form of my exercises. She was not helping anyone. Her whole demeanor of hostile pseudo-haughty importance just turned me off. She was not at all interested in helping or understanding - just hurrying for her schedule. I did not want to sit there and listen to her aggressive and sneery tone. Kind of hard to take a PT seriously when they don’t read the patient history, are obese themselves, want a lengthy recap and are angry - all the while telling you to hurry because of another patient. I got up and left when she was visibly rolling her eyes and looking at the other PT person to somehow weigh in on the situation. This exemplified that my patient privacy HIPPA was just a formality - and that she was going to say something about me in front of another patient and - she did! Good riddance Joan!! Apparently Spaulding is so desperate to hire PTs that miserable, obese individuals with aggressive personalities are welcome. I returned to the front desk and ask to be rescheduled with ANYONE but Joan. They were very understanding and very helpful. The staff seemed like it has happened before regarding a reschedule with Joan and said, some people just don’t like her, let’s see if we can get you someone else.

My wife had a stroke and was being released from an intensive care unit and I had to make the perplexing decision as to where to send her next. I choose the Spaulding Acute Rehabilitation Hospital in Sandwich, MA. It was the best decision of my life. This was realized the moment I stepped through the front door. The Pandemic has created may complexities, especially for health care facilities. The security staff where there to explain the regulations, and were most helpful and understanding. When in her room, she was given the best of care by the nurses and their assistants. If she needed attention, staff responded immediately even in situations where they were not assigned to my wife. The physical therapy teams were extremely knowledgeable and personable. She made great gains while under their care. Most notable and comforting were the opportunities for me to come in and watch the staff in action, and receive direct feedback. The doctor supervising her care made frequent updates and was receptive to meeting with my wife and I.Wish I could cite specific individuals but I have a fear that I may miss some. I would like to think you know who you are.Special thanks,Peter Fletcher

My 86 year old father had a fractured hip. He had an IM nail operation done with great success. The staff at Spaulding did a supremely awesome job at helping my father in his rehabilitation. When he first fell I though he'd never walk again. He's 6 feet tall 200lbs, again he's 86... He is able to get himself out of chairs and bed without someone aiding him to stand. I couldn't be happier with this facility and would reccomend it to anyone! The facility is very clean, well sanitized and very protective of their patients during the Pandemic. Staff must sanitize their hands as they enter a "new room." A+ on the cleanliness and safety of your staff and patients!

Spaulding provides compassionate care for those needing rehabilitation and a desire to return to their normal lives. The staff is very attentive, and patients are given privacy and dignity. Therapists ensure that stroke patients get help moving forward with their lives. They ensure that patients don't spend their days staring at soap operas. A family member of mine had a good 3 week stay. A functional living apartment enables patients to get back to normality. It's off Route 6 in Sandwich, but it is tucked into a quiet corner with views of the Atlantic Ocean. For a hospital, it is filled with light and cheery. The cafeteria has several varieties of coffee, a decent salad bar, and specials like Florentine spinach-stuffed halibut. Spaulding is more than a hospital, it provides excellent therapy.
