There were so many old buildings, it was like walking through a time machine. Except for the modern cars. Those were new. But the buildings! They were great. The entire district is small enough to walk easily, although I prefer taking a stroll. Maybe even a saunter. The newest building was built in, I believe, the 1880s, with many being much older than that. Except the one with is a rebuild from the 1920s if the faded marker in front is to be believed. To go into some of the historic houses, you'll need to buy tickets at the museum. But be careful as some if the houses are privately owned and you don't want to walk in on them. Also there are a couple of schools who own some land.Overall it was a very nice experience. They I will do again.

Great way to learn the history about this area and the Indian attack and what they went through and how they made the things with the resources nearby

They have a $18.00 (For adult) all access sticker to enter any house that is part of the tour. GET IT. Every accessible building holds a wealth of information, thee guides are some of thee best guides ever. Any questions you may have they have an answer for. Citing source, and in many cases legal documents and receipts. Just over all good walk through time.

Set aside a day to do this. Only regret not getting to spend more time here. You pay upfront for however many tours you want. There is a guide at each house. Some houses are self guided. Some houses closed for lunch. Lots of neat history. The houses are spread out in that part of town as well, not all in one tight area. Be aware of this if there are chances of rain.

This historic group of homes sounds like an interesting stop for a history enthusiast. I came on the same day as an event at Deerfield Academy, and HD blocked their parking lot to prevent those people from parking at the museum, but I called and ask if we, patrons, could park in the designated lot and was basically implied I was lying that the parking lot was closed. So really bad and frustrating communication. Once we parked blocks away and the employee shrugged and said "oh well it's a nice day to walk" and "when there's a local event we don't get a lot of visitors." No duh. Honestly if we hadn't pre-bought tickets, we wouldn't have bothered either. Banning their own patrons from parking in their own designated lot is insane. Then they weren't sorry about the inconvenience. ANYWAY, it's a nice collection of houses, most with tours on the hour and tours taking about 40 minutes, so just enough time to have questions and walk to the next place. The tour guides were very knowledgeable. There seem to be more historic demos on Saturdays vs. other days of the week. When I went on a Sunday, there were still quite a few closed buildings, I assume due to lack of staff and visitors to justify opening. There's a museum with some folk art. It's actually a lot more to see than can be done in a day, and it's definitely an all-day event. It was also interesting to learn about the 1704 Native American raid of the town. This place feels like it has a lot of potential, like a MA version of Colonial Williamsburg, but it felt a bit lacking. It would be great if there were more buildings open to pick and choose from. The gift shop offered very few souvenirs. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside. Like I had an enjoyable day, but I wouldn't recommend anyone go out of their way for this place as it is now. I hope visitors improve and the experience improves.

Wonderful place….. absolutely strongly recommend! All the houses are spread alone a Main Street; the interpreters are all so engaging and passionate!! We spent about three hours and barely went through half of the houses. Will definitely need to come back.Thank you, Historic Deerfield!!!

This is such a wonderful historic experience to have. Definitely a place to bring your family as well. My husband and I walked all along the street with all the beautiful old houses, we visited this gorgeous farm walking trail & saw the happiest, galloping, playful cows ?? they were definitely my favorite part. We also visited this very pretty, ancient cemetery on the top of an old hill, overlooking the high-school playing field.Definitely a must see

Quaint little historic village with an Inn and Restaurant and antique store… all intermingled into historic homes and the well-known prep school. The tour guide was outstanding, very knowledgeable and entertaining. Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI is impossible to beat in this genre, but this was a nice sojourn.

We were only able to visit for a few hours, but had an amazing time. There were fun learning opportunities and demonstrations throughout the day, such as cooking on an open hearth, and carpentry using tools from the 17th -19th centuries. Many historic buildings and guided tours within the scenic mile long district. The wonderful Deerfield Inn features a restaurant that serves savory dishes fireside in fall and winter, all day. (Reservations are a good idea). A large museum, post office, and a charming gift shop. Tickets were only $18 for adults, sold at the visitor's center. We loved every minute & hope to return soon to these friendly people in this beautiful historic town.

Wife is the family genealogist and wanted to track down the story of her seventh generation Grandmother, Hannah Stebbins as one of the 47 people to pass during the Indian/French Raid. John Sheldon is her same generation Grandfather. The historical area was abundant in answers as many museums, burial grounds and more gave us a taste of an important time. The preservation of artifacts, sites, homesteads, buildings and more was amazing! THANKS OLD DEERFIELD!!!

As a history buff, I love this place. Even though it is closed, it is nice walk and is usually quite on a Sunday afternoon. I look forward once they open up in May.

Very peaceful. I wish we could see the "Deerfield experience" from the Native American perspective.

If you enjoy historic houses, you will love this place. Some houses have guided tours, and the guides are quite knowledgeable. Others are self-guided with a docent near the entrance. There is a nice gift shop opposite the Visitors Center. I only had a few hours to spend and therefore didn't get to see the entire street. I will go back.If you are into old graveyards, do visit this one. It's at the end of a side street, ask for directions.
