I rented a car from Boston airport as i was visiting my ailing aunt. To extend the rental by a day they made me go to the rental place at the airport. I had to drive an hour each way and stand in line for two hrs to get the extension. Its mind boggling that i had to spend more than fours to get the extension. They would not do it over the phone or online. I am traveling to visit an ailing relative and every moment is precious. But i had to waste this much time just for an extension that I should have ben able to over the phone or online. I have been renting cars for 25 yrs and never had experienced such poor service. The extension was not even cheap, although they claimed that there is a price drop which made the lines and the wait so long. I certainly will not use Thrifty again, even if they are cheaper than every other company.

My electric car rental (don't ever rent one btw) from the airport is not taking a charge from any charging station (giving me a message that it can't charge because the cord isn't inserted fully--and it is)... Anyway, Thrifty support says exchange it at another Thrifty location but this place isn't answering the phone even though it's still during open hours.I'd avoid Thrifty car rentals in the Boston area for sure.

Do not rent from here, they will waste your time.Like other reviewers, I went to this location to return a car during normal posted business hours but it was closed -- there was a sign on the door saying to go to a different location. Customer support said on the phone that the office should not be closed.Furthermore, the door for the office was open and left ajar. Whatever employee who was supposed to be at the office that day failed to close the door. The deadbolt had been turned but it was not latched. Anyone could have walked in.

we called yesterday to confirm pick up at 10am. lady was pleasant and said it would be ready. here now for over an hour. no one is in the office. no way to get a hold of anyone. The National service said there was nothing we could do. we confirmed this and now have made hundreds of dollars In reservations for other events. So disappointing

I picked up a car here and it was fine. When I tried to return it, the office was closed. There was no sign. The hotel clerk next door explained that the thrifty clerk showed up for an hour and then closed up and wouldn't be returning. I called thrifty and the representative didn't believe that this location was closed until they tried calling.I had to return in Boston which ate up another 90 minutes of my day.Don't rent cars here. The location isn't staffed consistently and the posted hours on thriftys website and Google maps are not correct. Your time is too valuable to waste with these clowns.

Speedy pick up, on drop off, keys left with neighbouring business as the office was unmanned which is a way for them to keep their prices down. Great car

Unfortunately it's not possible to give zero stars. The car we got had stained upholstery but worked fine. We agreed to return it to the same location in Harvard Square. "DO NOT," the agent warned us, "under any circumstances use the automatic PlatePass to pay tolls." This caused some consternation when we had to go through a toll that was automated. We figured Thrifty would bill us the amount, about $2. A few days later when we went to return the car before going to the airport, a handwritten sign on cardboard informed us that the Harvard Square location was closed (in the middle of a Tuesday) and we would have to go to downtown Boston to return the car. Never mind that we needed to catch a flight. We tried for a while to get in touch with Thrifty central, which proved impossible. Finally we gave up and drove to Boston, dropping the car off with a surly rental person there. The icing on the cake? Getting a $10 bill from Thrifty for going through a toll pass and not using the automatic PlatePass. Never again, Thrifty. Never again.

Told me to drop the car back off in Cambridge. I showed up to a closed office and a sign telling me to drive all the way back into Boston to dropOff the car. Thanks for wasting half an hour of my life.

Awful experience. Staff was nice enough , but I would avoid renting your car here. 30 minutes late for the pick up and over two hours late for the drop off. No lock box and hotel staff would not let me leave the car keys with them. My advice would be to rent your car at a larger facility without the staffing issues.

Worst car rental ever, here's my experience.I'm a foreigner travelling in the US. I booked a car at that location via Expedia, paid for everything in advance.First thing they ask me is if I have a credit card: I say no, I have a debit card (credit cards aren't common in my country). They tell me that means they'll need to DOWNGRADE me, give me a worse car than the one I ordered and paid for. And that was just the start...Then they tell me they'll need to take a $500 deposit on my debit card. I tell them fine, I run my card through the magnetic strip but it gets declined for some reason...So they tell me: sorry sir, we can't give you a car. So I ask them to reimburse me. But they won't do that either: they tell me they can't reimburse me, I need to try my luck with Expedia. After I left the store, extremely frustrated, I contact my bank to figure out why my card got declined. Turns out I had a $400 limit for magnetic strip payments. I ask my bank to increase the limit, which they do.I then go back to the store and tell them to retry to get the $500 from my card. The response: sorry, company policy, we can only try once every 24 hours. Utterly ridiculous! So here I am: I have a car I booked and paid for in full, a debit card that works from which they can get a $500 deposit but for some incomprehensible reason they won't give me the car. And they won't reimburse me either for what I paid for. This is basically a scam. And now, not only do I NOT have the car I counted on for my trip in the US but I still have to pay for it...Absolutely terrible car rental place, avoid at all costs!

Absolute rip-off business practices. They charged me 240 dollars instead of 90. Stay away

The car was fine. My problem was the rental agent when I picked up the car asked me: Do you want the full insurance coverage or the minimum? I have car rental insurance coverage through my credit card so always deny it. I said "the minimum" and was charged $18 per day for the basic insurance. Very misleading and unethical way to do business. I wonder if the rental agents get financial incentives to sell things like insurance.

DO NOT RENT FROM THRIFTY! Many hidden fees with dishonest, deceitful customer service reps. Heavy sales tactic for loss damage waiver. Per AAA booking, a 2nd driver could be added at no extra charge. This was not honored so $13/day charge was declined. Wait time for a reserved car was unacceptable. The car pick up was at 3:29 p.m. with a return time of 10:30 a.m. I called one day later to question the time and was told the return time was 4:29 p.m. The customer service rep was asked more than once to repeat the time because she was difficult to understand. We returned the car at 4:22 unable to speak to a representative to clarify anything, just told a receipt would be emailed. An extra day was charged so I called w/the date, time, phone # and name of person I spoke to. I was put on hold while they supposedly reviewed the tape of the call at my insistance and was then told no time was stated in the call at all and no adjust would be made. This was not true. I would never rent from them or the parent company Hertz again.

The website and even on their door says that they open at 8, but we were told by the hotel lobby staff (where it is located) that the staff never arrives before 9. We waited till 10 before cancelling our booking because no staff showed up.
