Rental vehicles are parked off-site from the rental office. Agents refuse to take you to the vehicle or show you where the garage is located, so there is no easy way to review the car you are getting before you rent it. When I found the car I had reserved on-line in the garage, it had multiple large dents, a cracked bumber, and the turn signal did not work.

Had the worst car rental experience here. First, after 1 hour of the pick up time, the car is still not ready. Second, about a month after we returned the car in good condition, we received a bill saying we damaged the car and they charged us another 200 dollars for repairing without any notification from Avis. We called Avis and they told us they have repaired the car and no photo was taken--no evidence for our "damage" at all. The problem is not solved yet. We will never use Avis again.

This place has low ratings for a reason. The return process was confusing. Pickups and returns of the rental cars are both in an offsite parking garage. We were rented a car that has engine light lit at the beginning, making me doubt whether they inspect the vehicle before renting the car. And the staffs were unprofessional and rude which I also read in many other reviews. In my case, the staff made sarcastic comments to argue their way out of a bad situation they put us in. Not helpful to resolve the problem and extremely unprofessional.

Staff is helpful and they manage the location well. A good neighborhood destination. I've seen some customers just stalling and being annoying but the staff handles them corteously and offers the best service they can. Tyrone and the team work tirelessly on weekends

When I was picking up my rental car, I waited over 50 minutes after pre-paying because we were told they needed to check on the number of remaining cars of the size that I had paid for. The employee we were working with disappeared for most of that time, thinking that the other employee at the counter would take care of my rental. Both of them didn't communicate properly to each other and to me. I actually overheard that the other employee accidentally gave away our rental car to someone else that was in line behind us. This extreme delay, lack of communication, and oversight led me to miss a work meeting. What should have taken 15 minutes maximum, given the number of customers being served, ended up taking nearly an hour.When I was returning the rental car, things were not much better. The process also took over 30 minutes despite there being very few customers. Unfortunately, I feel that I've seen the same 3 employees at the counter at this location over the past year, but it always seems like one or two of them is training and needs help doing their job.I've had much better experiences at Enterprise and other car rental companies. I am very disappointed by what seems like a lack of competence at this specific Cambridge Avis location. I am not at all likely to rent from Avis and especially this location again nor would I subject anyone I know to this experience!

My experience with AVIS has been extremely disappointing. After renting a car for over a year, I expected better service when it came time for the annual inspection of my rental car.Despite my efforts to arrange a replacement vehicle, AVIS refused to reserve one and couldn't guarantee a similar-sized vehicle. This is unacceptable, as it's their responsibility to ensure the cars they provide are safe and compliant.What makes this situation even more frustrating is that my company rented the car for me, and I will be reporting this experience to them, so that they will consider alternative rental options for other expats in the future.I strongly discourage potential customers from renting with AVIS. Their lack of professionalism and accountability is concerning.

I am a frequent Avis customer, but my recent rental experience was the worst. The customer service I encountered was extremely terrible. On top of that, the cars I had reserved were not ready at the scheduled pick-up time, resulting in a wait of over an hour. It's frustrating when the specified rental start time doesn't align with the actual availability of the vehicles. I had to reschedule my all day because of them

Tried to upgrade by one category, and was requested to pay a premium of $85$ / day. So I refused to switch to a larger vehicle on grounds of budget, but then I just checked the Avis website and I found out I should’ve paid, tax included, $20/day. So quite unhappy about their intent to overcharge.

There is a reason for bad reviews. The car they gave us had scratches and the engine light was on. When I asked about this, they said that it is ok, without really verifying anything. When I ask them to talk to their manager, they said that they will have to change the car, but I had to wait for extra two hours to get the new car. I am still waiting. Now I am super late for my trip.(Edit) Just after writing this review, I received a car, which was a better class and almost brand new. While I still feel uncomfortable that I missed a really important reservation due to the delay, the car itself was good, so I'm updating the review

I have found AVIS to be a very reliable rental service. I recently used it to transport my daughter from Boston, MA to Durham, NC where we left the vehicle. It was hard to find any other service at that time which could accommodate us like AVIS. Along with great customer services, I would highly recommend them.

When we rented the car in Cambridge we were told the car was in a parking structure around the corner. When we got to the parking structure we were told we need a ticket to get out of the structure. We couldn’t locate the parking ticket, it was either missing when my husband got the paperwork or or got lost walking over to the structure. We were quite distraught as we were told we would need to walk back to the Avis office around the corner of a city block and also had to pay an additional $35 for the parking ticket. As we are aged over 75 years old and had difficulty walking there in the first place and then having to walk back to the office and back again to the parking garage, we felt quite upset and exhausted. My husband has a heart condition and this was not healthy for him. As we needed to pick up the car immediately and we were already delayed, we couldn’t do anything other than get the car and go. I would like to get reimbursed for the extra parking ticket at the minimum. They should have at least offered to bring a new ticket to the garage for us when we told them at the office by phone from the parking structure. I will never use Avis again given the awful experience we had.
