In the past, they used to sell live poultry when I was a kid, but it take them a long time to prepare it. Like 30 minute to get one done. Many people were waiting with their number ticket. Good old days, but now they will serve you a prepared one from the fridge just to have you get out of there fast. Sound like lazy work to me.

Why serve frozen chicken

There are two live poultry shops in Chinatown but I've only ever shopped at this one. If you've ever eaten soy sauce chicken or scallion/ginger chicken at a Cantonese restaurant, they are most likely using what they call Brown Chicken at this shop. This is a breed of chicken that Cantonese folks tend to use and is characterized by its bright vibrant yellow skin. The meat is a firmer than your Costco chicken and has more chicken taste. Prior to the pandemic I recall buying them for $3.20/lb and now in 2023 they are going for $3.60/lb. Chickens tend to be around 5-6 pounds so expect to spend around $20/chicken. My family has been buying from here for years.Tip: cash only.

This is not a good place to buy fresh meat. They make you pay for some frozen they just defrost. If you want to buy meat just make sure you check it before you pay it. Sunday Nov 3rd, 2019 I went there so they brought me two defrosted when I asked the girl to change it because I am here to buy fresh meat the only thing she said is I don't know. Not fair
