Cheap and reliable.

Do not use! I should've read the yelp reviews, but I never thought in America a business would be third world before. Man was I wrong. Go elsewhere. You're literally waiting in a huge line because "they have no cars".

I’ll keep this short. I reserved a mid size car; I don’t know why I bothered though because when I arrive all they have is a compact Chevy Trax SUV. No offer to upgrade to the next size up because they couldn’t honor their reservation, nope…Chevy Trax. Now I’m on the the highway in heavy Boston traffic and it’s pouring out. Put the wipers on and one of them comes off the car. Someone put the wrong blades on. I stop, buy new blades, and put them on in the pouring rain and continue to try to keep an appointment I flew across the country for. 15 minutes later…the car overheats. Again I stop in the pouring rain and add water and then later when I find an auto store again to add coolant. The reservoir was completely empty. A call to roadside assistance was so frustrating that I ended the conversation after 20 minutes on the phone with someone who speaks English as a second language when he only got us up to the point in his flow chart where he asked “is there an ice scrapper in the car?” When I returned the car I explained that I spent $76 to maintain it for them and I was told there wasn’t anything that could be done to reimburse me for my expenses or even an apology, simply contact the company via phone or email. As anyone can guess… weeks of multiple emails, multiple phone calls generated several “case numbers” and offers for “future vouchers” that could only be used in person and expired in 12 months. Finally Thrifty (Hertz) agreed to refund $100 to my credit card, which I still do not find acceptable, but I feel there is little else I can do short of leaving this review and never renting from them again.

Arrived in Boston Thu night. Counter closed, sign directed us to Thrifty desk. At least 50 people already in line, not moving, appears to be only 1 agent. Never again.

This company is terrible. They have one agent handling two rental car companies. The other companies have more attendants and less lines. Next time I am going to spend a little more to go with a company that gives a crap.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Paid for reservation, arrived in Boston and my car was not available. Had to pay double the cost with another rental company. I repeat absolutely terrible customer service. Maybe you will treat your mothers better. I suggest you pick other options. I will definitely stay away from this bottom feeder of a company. Refund my funds as soon as possible.

Waited over THREE hours in line at Orlando airport to get our rental. Two people working that day - there were legit 200 people in line ahead of me. When we finally got through the line the employee said they were giving me a "free upgrade" and tried to give me a pick up truck or a mini van - I reserved a small SUV! I said no and they finally found me an SUV (the last one in the parking garage) - then when trying to leave the airport they were having problems scanning it and that took an extra 20 minutes. So after 3.5 hour we finally left the airport. NEVER AGAIN!!

Dollar had no one manning the counter at 3:00pm on a Saturday. They sent everyone to the Thrifty counter- where there were only two people at the counter. We counted 108 people in line ahead of us. It took over three hours to get through the line. They did nothing to try to mitigate the situation. When we mentioned the situation, they made a comment that we had booked through third party so there was nothing they could do. It's too ridiculous to even discuss further.

I rented a car with Dollar Car Rental on Columbus Ave at the end of July. The rental agent asked me if I wanted to spend 15/day for our two week rental for our Honeymoon to buy the toll pass. I told him that we were only going through tolls on two days of our 14 day Honeymoon. To make a long story short, we had 4 tolls (which there are no options to pay in MA or NY except EZPass) of $1.24 to $1.76 each BUT DOLLAR CHARGED A $9.99 fee for each to process the toll (For those who love math this is a 805% MARKUP FEE. This is a scam to make extra money for Dollar and I WOULD NEVER recommend using them and I will not use them or their parent company HERTZ ever again. To add insult to injury, on day 3 we got a flat tire on the road and when we called their roadside assistance they told us that we had not paid for roadside assistance but if I could drive the car back to Boston with a flat from Gloucester, they could help us. Obviously could not do that. The phone operators had no sympathy and just said to call your own insurance and see if they could help.

We rented a car at 1PM, started driving at 2PM and had a flat tire by 2:45 from a pre existing issue in rural Connecticut. Everyone at this company is rude, condescending and not helpful and will try to gouge you for every penny. Save your money and time and use a different service.

I haven't left a review in years, but I was in Boston recently and had to grab a rental car. I made the reservation before I saw Yelp while looking for a phone number to tell them I'd be a bit late picking up (no luck finding the number). The reviews of this location made me rather anxious and are why I'm adding mine. I walked in, no line, they had the car I reserved ready to go, and I was off. Easy. I just wish they'd add a phone number to the local office to Yelp!

Located in the middle of Boston, we chose this Dollar rental because it had decent rates. There was a hug line to get in the tiny office. Our rental car seemed okay at first but then it would not accelerate in the highway Then it stopped on the highway. The car started again and I was able to drive it to the Rhode Island Airport for an exchange. We were able to exchange our vehicle but can't excuse the Boston location for giving us a defective car.

On top of already paying over $100 a day for a six day trip in Boston, and them not having the available car that I requested and reserved. I just received a bill for the tolls we drove through during our vacation. 13 dollars in tolls which I am more than happy to pay but then Thrifty charged us $9 dollars per each toll we drove through. So I am expected to pay 75 dollars total for the 13 dollars in actual tolls. There are no cash options in Boston and these fees were never discussed with us. I would strongly recommend using a different rental company.
