Not well maintained and equipment is old with a stationary bike not working sometimes. But good value.

Torn equipment, and not enough of it. Overall terrible place.

It's good because the equipment is usually available. If it's busy you can always grab a bench and free weights to accomplish almost any exercise. Lots of cardio equipment 2 rooms full usually with 1 or 2 people max in either room. Also full basketball court and Olympic pool also usually empty or almost empty. Parking garage attached and is validated. Cold water bubbler. Towels for 1$, equipment cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, and paper towels dispensers everywhere, a/c ,n full locker room with the YMCA vibe hot and weird.

The South End Fitness Center recently underwent renovations and is now home to one of the best public pools in Boston. It is a very unassuming gym, but from the entrance you'd never be able to tell it's like Mary Poppins' bag. There is a main area for weights with a couple of squat racks and benches as well as other machines. Yes, the equipment has seen better days, but the patrons are all respectful of weights and each other, so everything is still holding on. There are two rooms with a surprisingly wide variety of cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowing machines, and one or two others I'm not sure the names of). Down the stairs is the pool and the locker rooms, and through the locker rooms is the large aerobics room. Again, the equipment/mats here have seen better days, but it's manageable. There are kettlebells, medicine balls, and dumbbells on both floors for plenty of workout space. The staff is very friendly, and a lot of the patrons have some relation to BU med or BMC due to its close proximity. There are good deals on pricing for a lot of different groups, so be sure to check if you qualify. Overall a decent, worth the money gym experience that is hard to come by in a city like Boston,

Chronically short staffed, erratic hours. Old equipment.

I think this place has been turned into a shelter for men.

Best value in Boston. No frills but it has everything, it all works, there’s free parking, and I’m often the only one in the pool in the late morning. Hidden gem.

Cheap small bare bone gym with friendly staff! Rough neighborhood though and older equipment.

Barely any weights if that's what you're looking for and the membership prices are way too overpriced and long of a commitment. They do have a pool and basketball court though. The neighborhood is as bad as any neighborhood could ever get

Best indoor pool in Boston, but the rest of the place leaves something to be desired. The locker rooms are saunas, but not in a good way. The pool deck probably gets cleaned once a quarter. The staff are not always kind. But, it’s the cheapest membership pool in the city that doesn’t limit swim times.
