This bank overall is racist. They have a huge lack of diversity and they are not current. They treat non-Caucasian customers with the upmost disrespect. From HR to the branches. Terrible bigots. Don’t bank here.

I have an ESavings account with Salem Five Direct. The current rate is 1.65%, as published on their website. I assumed this was the rate I was getting until I took a current look at my current statement, where it said 0.60%. I called customer service, and they said they only raise your rate if you ask for it. I asked when rates go down, do they only lower your rate when you ask for it. Of course the answer was no. Their is nothing on the Esavings web site that says for new customers only. The customer representitive said it was buried in the small print. This is deceptive advertising. I have filed a complaint with the state attorney generals office.

I have used Salem Five for all my accounts (money market, checking, mortgage) for the past 14 years. In the last few years they have really gone downhill and I have to follow up on everything and there are a lot of miscommunications and now lack of trust. What happened? I would no longer recommend them, sadly.

Run far far away. Just can't get away from this incompetent bank. We have been trying to close our account for two weeks, and have received answers about how to do so after unsuccessful attempts. They told us to zero out the balance before requesting to close, but somehow every time I do it's more than the reported balance and it gets bounced back and an overcharge slap of $35. Try to leave and they won't let you go. The icing on the cake is that they'll provide detailed information to my husband over the phone about our accounts, but refuse to answer our questions in the secure message system if the message is signed with his name.. just because the username has my name in it.

Very professional bank with customer focused services. I'm a customer since 1999 when the Boston Branch was first opened.I'm using a number of products: Saving/Checking accounts, IRA and Mortgage loan. In all instances I received great and timely professional services.

Today I opened a student account with Mark and he did an absolute great job today. His customer service was the best of the best and he made me feel apart of the Salem Five Bank family and I couldn't have asked to get better service today. Lastly, everything that this bank has to offer including getting your debit card directly at the branch rather than waiting to receive it in the mail exceeded my expectations. I am defeintly a happy customer.

A long time customer of Salem Five - the downtown Boston branch is the one I regularly visit. I've always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Haven't been disappointed yet. Account fees are much lower than the large national banks and I find the mobile app to be great.

salem five is a good bank, especially if you live near a branch or an ATM. if not, not so good. they don't have that many ATM's at all. I needed to deposit a check yesterday and was told via chatting online with the bank that I could deposit it at a VISA ATM near my house. I went to the atm and guess what - THE CHAT PERSON WAS WRONG. there was no 'deposit check' option on the ATM. so, I was stuck. it was after the post office closed - my only viable option was mailing it - and so my deposit was delayed because the chat person, whose job was to give me correct info, gave me incorrect info. their mobile app for depositing checks has gotten bad reviews, so I don't trust it. in my experience they are better than most banks, but that is not high praise, considering. they should have more salem five ATM's and short of that, they should have agreements with other banks so that one can deposit checks via the foreign ATM. I have direct deposit for my work checks, but this was a check from another source.

This is my bank; so hopefully you won't see this as a bias review. The employees here are all so kind with all my questions, transactions, etc. It is quick in and out and things doesn't take long unless you have something to discuss with your personal banker. I couldn't be happier with this bank and I would recommend this to my family and friends. Although one of my friend did recommend me to this bank and I am glad he did.
