If I could give the Prudential branch no stars I would. I open this account as it was close to work. Then I get a call I had been in the bank and deposited a check I didn't endorse. I hadn't been in the bank for 2 months. I go in and was told again I had been in ... no I hadn't, the check had been deposited 2 months before using the atm. Now I called because I didn't get a debit card after the merger, told come in and we will expedite one for you. Go in, fill out forms, still no debit card which was being delivered to the bank. No the card got returned because they failed to but the bank name on the form they filled put for delivery. Had three calls with completely rude staff whose standard answer is we don't have that info or "I don't know". Spoke with M&T Bank call center who informed me the branch knew what they did wrong and had same info they did. However, they unlike the branch took the time to solve the problem for me and not hang up on me because I couldn't be upset about the situation and didn't speak respectful to them. This branch needs staff that actually wants to help its customers not pass the buck and blame someone else for their errors!

BEWARE. This bank is a fraud. This bank is mishandling the money entrusted to them. Ebill payments to some of our service providers arrive with 2-4 weeks delay. We have proved it is not the mail carrier. Only then they said it's there third party payment processing vendor and there is nothing the bank can do. Imagine their CEO would be getting his check with 4 weeks delay? Do not bank with this bank. There system is a fraud. They take money out of the account on the day, the check is processed and then they delay delivery by 2-4 weeks while using the money that's not theirs.

it is small bank and should sound like my home bank , but myy you experience was horrible , long hours on hold , representatives are from street have no idea what are they doing at all. one guy can decide for hole company , no notifications , no communications , you have to go to branch to resolve all small issues , but wait .... you come to branch and even manager have no idea how to do a thing , so he calls 800 number . any way if your time more expensive then money DO NOT Deal WITH PEOPLES UNITED . wasted time . I told myself to move to other bigger bank but was too much to loose in moving . now is time . that hassle with passwords and security questions that you cannot answer without bank access when emergency kill me completely , no more i am so happy to move my " millions " to better bank

The absolute worst bank I have ever dealt with. They are now a part of M&T. They promised a $300 bonus. I went into the branch at the Prudential center. Spoke with Iris and the manager. They verified everything and helped me open the account. When I fulfilled all the requirements I sent a message to customer service confirming that I have fulfilled all the requirements. They said yes and confirmed I will receive the bonus after May 20th. When I did not see the bonus in the week after May 20th I wrote to them. This time they replied. Sorry you do not qualify and made up some arbitrary reason. This bank is an absolute scam. NEVER bank with such an unscrupulous financial institution.

I have had an account at Peoples Bank for more than 20 years. I'm done. The customer service I valued there in the early years no longer exists. I've had many strange experiences like crossing into bordering New York and having my card declined because I crossed state lines without giving them advance notice that I would be doing so. Yesterday I was on the phone for almost an hour with a rep who couldn't figure out the solution to my problem which involved a replacement card that wasn't working. I had to get back to work and rather than say she would take care of the problem and call me, she said she wasn't allowed to do that and directed me to go to a local branch for resolution. I did that and guess what..the person at the branch called the same center while I stood there and waited. Although I had evidence of the decline, they directed me to go to the vendor who received the decline from Peoples. When I questioned that direction, the person on the line repeatedly told me that I just wasn't listening. I finally had enough. A small bank who cares about customer retention is where I'm going.

If I could give this company a negative rating, I would. They don't even deserve one star. I wish I had looked at the other reviews before opening an account here. I would have saved myself a lot of aggravation. I cannot emphasize enough to avoid this bank at all costs!!!!!!! From the time that I opened an account, the employees at a local branch I went to were constantly harassing me with inappropriate questions. When I made a deposit, they would ask where the money came from. They asked me if I had other accounts with other banks where I paid my bills. This happened every time I came into the bank. In April, I deposited less than 5k for the entire month. I did not do any deposits in May or June. In June, they sent me a letter in the mail that they were cancelling my credit card for suspicion of "fraud." Fraud????? They gave me a 20K credit card limit. All of my purchases on my credit card were precious metals. Do they not want people owning real money??? I never went over the 20K limit and I always paid more than what was due each month. I have never had issues with any other credit card companies in my entire life. It is completely insulting to treat your customers like People's United Bank does. In July, they sent me a letter in regards to "monitoring" my account. This was enough. I had not even used their bank since April. They decide to send me a letter three months later? They clearly profile people based on their appearance, etc. I was so angry that I went into one of the branches that day with a copy of my taxes from the prior year. I told the bank teller that I was cancelling my account. When she asked why, I showed her the letter that I received from the bank. I told her about my credit card being cancelled. I also told her what I have been through with the employees of the bank. I showed her a portion of my taxes with my occupation and the amount paid for taxes. She was silent. She then told me she didn't blame me one bit for closing my account. Again, I have never been so insulted or treated like this by any bank or credit card company. Avoid this bank at all costs!!!!

Although a Massachusetts resident, I was not a resident of Northampton, MA. I recently visited a People's Bank in Northampton. I was in need of a Bank Certified Check,or a Money Order to make a purchase at a Northampton auto dealership. As I entered the Bank a Manager greeted me. I told him I needed to purchase a Certified Bank Check or Money order. The first response he made was, "Are you a customer of the bank? : I replied no. He proceeded to tell me, I must be a customer. I asked about using my ATM Card for cash to purchase a Money Order . He again stated, "It was the banks policy that the ATM was for Bank customers only." I finally said to him what if I become a customer? He said, "they wouldn't do it for that." I now can understand the reason why I was the only person in the Bank other than those working there. People's Bank is certainly not a Bank for the people. I would advise the bank revisit their policies as they currently operate like a private country club. Hopefully few members they do have will wiseup and do business elsewhere. In the review you are forced to give a minimum of 1 Star. However I rate the People's Bank A BIG FAT ZERO!

fees on top of fees on top of fees - wasn't the old story that small banks don't charge fees like the big banks and they offer better customer service? not true with peoples - tech sucks, customer service reps are clueless, bank provides no support and charges you to use other bank's atms so every time you go to the atm you're paying 6 dollars+ to get money out - for 2 systems to automatically communicate you're paying 6 dollars. will be pulling my money out as soon as i return from vacation

Deceptive, do not trust what they tell you. I was outside a bank, trying to make a deposit into the ATM so 4 payments didn't bounce, and the ATM wasn't working and it was after hours. I called the call center, spent over an hour on the phone, and was told that because I was at the bank, I was trying to make a deposit and I called trying to find a way to make it, that they'd waive the overdraft fees that were likely to hit. They told me to call them as soon as the fees hit. I called after the overdraft fees and the person on the phone refused to honor what I was told, that the overdraft fees would be waived. I then was transferred to a manager who, after another discussion, also refused to honor what I was told by the cash center and only waived 1 of the 4 fees. I spent over 2 hours on the phone for almost nothing and People's couldn't even honor the fee removal that I their own call center told me I would get when I called the first time just a couple days earlier.

Don't save money here if you want to access it while out-of-state. Been a customer for many, many years. We had lots of $$ in our savings. Found a vehicle we wanted to purchase in another state while we were there (could not find similar at home). Called to have them wire transfer to the dealer. Nope, sorry no can do for that amount of money. Seriously? It's our money! Asked if there was anything else we could do, got put on hold for twenty minutes before I hung up and called back. Next person said, we could go to a branch to do the transfer. I advised the closest branch was 500 miles away. Response was oh well, sorry". Arrgghh. I am now in the process of closing all of our accounts and taking our money to another bank who has been extremely helpful.

I would give negative stars if I could. The customer service is dismal. The security questions ludicrous! 4 days my money trapped because I couldn't access my accounts
