Let me start by saying I did not go inside. But before you dismiss my comment, allow a moment for me to explain why. I've been enjoying Boston all week with my parents. On 9/10, my dad walked into Old State House and asked if tickets include a military discount, and the Desk Guy said only for US Military (um, ok). Soon after my mom & I walked in and we decided to get tickets. My dad showef his Retired Military ID, and the Desk Guy said he'd never seen one like that before. He wanted to know what branch of the military my dad was with. All Retired US Military IDs look similar as far as I know. My dad came to the US at 18 and was DRAFTED by Richard Nixon in 1968. We were on the Freedom Trail, for crying out loud.... a path written in history by the likes of Alexander Hamilton and Lafayette. Immigrants! Read a history book Desk Guy.

It is not a simple structure. Here you can breathe the history of the United States of America. The chamber where the Declaration of Independence was first read. The rooms in which it is told how it went from a colony of the United Kingdom to the United States of America. The original 13 colonies. The tea riot. Everything here is summarized in very little space.

This is a beautiful historic building, the architecture is stunning. I love how it's tucked between the commercial-more-modern structures. I love America and her history is so rich. Boston is where I'm from, so when I visit - history and culture draw me in more than anything else. Must visit if you are in the area. I need to go back for the tour - I hear they are small group and filled with great detail.

A wonderful place! The mayor is friendly, even if he is a ghoul; I love to drink at the "Third Rail".But the only minus is one noseless liar, but that's in the past, now she's just a corpse:)

Every American should visit. It was a 3% tax. The war wasn't over the 3%. It was over England's assertion that it had the right to tax the colonies.
Remember, Americans, aka colonists, were paying taxes to the colonial governments, too. The Americans, much like those in England, had a say in what their local taxes were. Americans didn't have a say in parliament and therefore didn't have a say in the taxes imposed on them by parliament. Making them second class British citizens. The Americans weren't going to stand for that, so the British found out. As we say in America FAFO!

Part of the Freedom Tour, site of the Boston Massacre, and your ticket here is also good for entrance to the Old South Meeting House.
There is a small museum inside and the Royal Chambers upstairs - the docent guide there was insightful.
Bathrooms are available in the basement.

A visit to Boston's Old State House is well worth an afternoon visit!
In particular we very much appreciated the time and discussion with Kate and Monica who provided an impromptu & informative history lesson on the site as well as an indepth review of the history of the early days of Boston and the Nation.
My only critique but a wonderful sense of irony is within the exhibit hall, they make reference to today's 'American Populism' movement and its risk to our Nation. A great example of today's MEDIA BIAS on full display!

It’s funny that they put Trump into one of the exhibitions.

A lot of great exhibits within the center of government for the Massachusetts colony. Outlines the events that led to the American Revolution, and includes exhibits on how women, Native Americans, and African Americans lived in the colony with limited rights. I found the Boston Tea Party exhibit interesting, especially how it can be compared with other property-destructive protests in U.S. History. Plus there's a station directly underneath the building, making it easy to visit. Can get a combination ticket with the Old South Meeting House, but not as many exhibits in that museum.
