Extremely convenient location in front of Boston Common close to Boylston subway stop. Very clean establishment with grand decorations in the interior.
Unfortunately, the seats are very close to each other so your knees will likely touch the back of the seat of the person in front of you.

I've seen two shows here - Six and Clue. I have ver mixed feelings about the theater, though. Both were one act only, which is relevant. The seats are tight! I'm a smaller person (only 5 feet) and felt uncomfortable, especially in the winter when you have a coat. I'm glad we didn't have to suffer through an intermission as I'm not sure my back could've handled the uncomfortable seat.
The venue is small, but you get a great view no matter where you sit. The acting for both plays was superb, and you are whisked away into their world. It's also a clean theater, with decent bathrooms. And because they are in Boston, eating out and parking are easy, and there are many choices, and it's walkable.
I will go here again, because of the shows they offer and their ticket prices are reasonable. I will choose very low balcony or floor, though, yo try to get more room.

The Colonial Theater is beautiful and feels so welcoming. They put on great shows. While the main bathroom can get crowded, the basement restroom is always vacant. I recommend prepaying for parking through the theater's website to get a discount. Highly recommend this theater for a fantastic experience!

Beautiful theater with great shows, expensive concessions.
We love this theater! It feels grand. We’ve also seen some wonderful shows here, and we have been seated in various spots, and there seem to be no dead spots in terms of sound quality. Certainly, there are some seats that are better than others, but the sound seems to be excellent throughout.
The shows they curate and choose to produce/perform here are always a wonderful mix and excellent quality. I’ve never seen a bad show here.
I guess my only complaint is the concessions. It’s not just that they are wildly expensive, as I’m accustomed to paying $12 for a glass of of wine if I am in a theater, but they’re more expensive than that, and the pours seem smaller, and I guess my biggest complaint is very little snack variety, and so we ordered some peanut snack mix, and it was rancid. It was clear that it was very old, but we did not wish to return it, Because we bought it at intermission, and we really did not want to miss the show. And afterwards, concessions was closed and we could not return it. That’s my only complaint about this theater, and I’m certain the theater contracts out the concessions, so just a note for them in the future.
I will say that it is nice that you can bring your snacks and wine into the theater, because not all theaters allow this, and some places make you chug it in the lobby!

Beautiful theater! As with all old theaters, don't expect to be able to fit in the seats. My tall husband had his knees painfully pressed into the seat in front of him. Bathrooms are nicely remodeled though. Sound system was good.

A beautiful theatre! However, the seat rows are placed way too close to each other, so anyone taller than 120 centimetres will suffer from hurting knees. Another downside is the lack of stricter dress codes.

Very intimate theater and the staff are so welcoming. This theater is also close to affordable parking.
