I usually go to this branch to withdraw money. So far my experience has been painless. The staff are polite and helpful. I have been a Citizens Bank customer for quite a while, and I've never had a major problem with them. Depositing a check in the ATM to my savings account was pretty straightforward and easy. However, their ATMs seem to reject the check if I try to deposit into my checking account for some reason... -.-

It is not about this particular Citizens branch but about Citizens bank online services. It is really bad! I have several accounts personal and business and I've had horrible experience with their system. You get in to the online banking and start issuing checks and all of a sudden it just times out on you when you only used it for 2 minutes or less... and that is going on constantly! For the major bank like this their IT department is awfull, their website is full of problems and inconsistencies. Time to move on and take my business elsewhere.

What Nicky N. said. I overdrew during a move in 2008 and it has haunted me ever since. No one at the bank made anything clear to me when I disputed some of the charges back then, and when I switched over to a local credit union, because seriously, @#*$ you guys. When I went to close my account, they told me it was closed and sent me a booklet to pay off the balance of the overdraft fees. Now every time I go to pay it, there is a ten minute discussion about "what are these slips? I don't understand" and whatever manager is there gets involved. Not to mention, that, despite being told the thing was closed, I was informed, nope, not so! And had to jump through another hoop. So I did, and then was told it won't actually be closed until I pay off the balance, and every month I will be assessed a fee. At which point, you know what, GFY, Citizens Bank and I'll just throw the balance at it. Luckily it wasn't more than I could afford, but Jesus H. Basically, use your local credit union. Big banks don't give a flying bleep about you and charge you fees over things that don't even make sense. Insult to injury, they don't even have free postage envelopes to send in your payments, yet will send you 35 freaking mailed notices if you are a millisecond late with a payment. Good riddance. I don't even use their ATMs anymore since I don't want them to get any money from the ATM fees (WHICH MY NEW BANK REIMBURSES). (This isn't entirely specific to this branch, although that hasn't exactly been a cup of f*cking tea, either).

Edit: My recent experience with this branch has been satisfactory. They seem to be a bit more pleasant to deal with as of late. It'd be nice if they had more tellers since the line gets long, but I haven't had too many issues to complain about within the past few months. Upgraded rating from 1 to 3 stars. Original review: A word to the wise: never go to the Citizens Bank branch located at the corner of Boylston and Berkeley Sts. Most of their employees fall into one of two categories: incompetent or surly. There's one who actually fits into both categories; a rather unpleasant, overweight woman who sighs heavily when doing her job, gives snippy responses to everything, and thinks that 320+170=430 and will argue with you, smacking her lips and rolling her eyes the entire time, until you request to speak with a manager. How does this person still have a job when she can't even do simple math properly? I don't trust her handling/counting my money. The teller line is always long and I almost always waste at least half of my lunch break waiting, usually more. Go up the street to Boylston and Dartmouth if you have the time. Don't bother with this branch.

I have been with this bank for six years. Everything is dandy until you make a small mistake of overdrafting your checking account. And then the fees pile up. I'm not complaining about the fees, because these are standard in the banking industry. I am complaining about the service, both over the phone, and at this branch. After being on hold with the 1-800 # for over an hour, I went to my local branch for some "customer service." I spoke with the assistant manager, who was wearing way too low cut a top to be remotely professional, and she explained fees to me like I was three years old. I said I understood what fees are, and wanted to ask if they could waive it because it was my first time in 6 years as a customer. She said flatly, "This is not your first time." Actually, yes it is. Instead of addressing the issue she told me to re-dial the 1-800 number and I twiddled my thumbs for another 30 minutes before I was told fees would not be refunded because it was not "bank error." I then asked low cut top to close my Citizens account and she seemed more than happy to do it. All my friends who use B of A have had their first overdraft fee refunded as a courtesy. And B of A is supposed to be the big, national chain bank with terrible customer service, whereas Citizens markets itself like your friendly personal regional bank. Complete BS. B of A, here I come.
