The vet repeatedly blew off my concerns for over a year and ultimately my cat died. I told Dr. Ramsey over and over that my cat was losing weight no matter how much she ate, she had suddenly become lethargic and weak, and she was frequently vomiting. He ran some basic blood tests, prescribed some quack remedies that did nothing, took my money for appointment after appointment while brushing off my concerns every time and saying all her symptoms were just old age. I finally got a second opinion and the second vet IMMEDIATELY, with a brief physical exam, noticed that my cat’s intestines were very swollen. It turned out she had plaques through her gut that kept her from being able to digest food properly, which was why she was so hungry, nauseous and tired. Normally this condition is treatable, but because Dr. Ramsey ignored my concerns for so long, my cat was very frail by the time we started treating her actual condition and she didn’t improve despite our extensive efforts. Ultimately she died, and I will always wonder if we could have had more time together if I’d consulted another vet sooner. Do not take your pet here.

Like others have said, my pet died in large part due to this practice's neglect. I brought him in (a 12 year old cat) because he had suddenly started vomiting every day when he rarely vomited over the entire course of his life. I had also noticed lumps on either side of his body that I had never felt before. I brought him in to get these things checked out and my concerns were abruptly dismissed- the doctor claimed she didn't feel any lumps, sent me home with antacids for him and said he needed to lose weight. Shortly after, we had to bring him to the emergency vet because he developed a high fever one day and was shivering. He stayed there 2 nights, and once the fever resolved we were told to follow up with our vet asap, as they suspected pancreatitis at best or cancer at the worst. When we brought him into Charlestown for a follow up, the vet as well as the tech were puzzled as to why he was even there, examined him for about a minute and sent us on our way saying she was glad he lost weight (which was significant weight loss in a short time). Though my gut said that couldn't be it, I trusted them because they were the veterinary professionals and I am not. We moved out of state two months later, and shortly after, he fell ill the same exact way- very high fever, trembling and now stumbling. We brought him to the emergency vet again, but this time he did not return home after 3 nights of fighting. We were told he had incredibly inflamed lymph nodes (the lumps I had felt in the beginning) and had a multiple organ failure. I often wonder if he'd still be with us if I trusted my gut and got a second opinion or simply changed vets. This was 2 years ago and I'm finally able to share and feel it's irresponsible not to.

TL/DR: They ignored me & my dog died.
Avoid for urgent/serious health concerns. Staff are not equipped to detect common & apparent signs of canine cancer. Timeline: I brought my 5 y/o boxer into MSPCA emergency 5/28/2022. They did an exam, ran blood work, and recommended I follow up w/ a general vet. Due to being new to the area, I brought her in here for the first (only) time on 6/1/22. They rec'd records from my prior vet, took a stool sample, and reviewed why we were there. I was told my dog's weight loss was no cause for concern because now she was at a healthy weight for her frame. I was told to continue her bland diet and it should clear up her symptoms soon, since she's had upset stomach in the past it's not a red flag. I was told to not worry about further testing now, because I should wait for lab results from the MSPCA visit ( pancreatitis, etc). The issues... 1. She had dropped from ~78 lbs to 69 lbs in approx. 1 month. 2. She had diarrhea + bloody stool ongoing, and was on a bland diet for several weeks. 3. She had inflammation presenting in her eyes impairing her vision & affecting her ability to walk. 4. The emergency vet was concerned enough to tell me to see a general vet asap to send for cytology. ALL of my concerns should have been taken seriously but were discounted & dismissed. Finally got into my prior vet 6/25/22, which was worth the 1.5 hr drive. They immediately took a cytology and gave me resources to get in with an oncologist on an emergency basis while awaiting the lab results. 1 month after her visit here, she was officially diagnosed with Lymphoma, estimated stage 3. She could have started chemotherapy 4 weeks earlier than she did, which might have saved her life, as lymphoma progresses quickly & aggressively and needs early treatment for obtaining/maintaining remission. This place was a waste of my time & money, and I'll always wonder how things might be different if they would have taken any action to help her.

If you care about your pet, or your time do not go to this veterinary clinic. First our vet Dr. Misty Sell retired, and they didnt feel compelled to let us know this information. Following her retirement there has been nothing but poor experiences. First I show up to a scheduled appointment, and waited in the lobby for 20 minutes. They then told me sorry we had a scheduling error and dont have you in... Meanwhile they called me the day before to confirm (Sure honest mistake if done once). We reschduled, and then I am waiting in the lobby again this time for 45 minutes past my scheduled appointment, and when I asked how much longer? They couldn't give me an honest answer/estimated time. This place is trash. They dont care enough to let you know about a change in doctor, your time, and quite frankly your pet. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! Plenty of other Vets who care in the area.

The staff and vets always treat my pup kindly, but they are very busy so it takes a long time to get appointments as well as test results.

As of early 2023, Dr. Sell, the reason behind all of the 1 star reviews you will read about, has left the practice.Since then, there has been a dramatic increase in the level of care provided at Charlestown Veterinary Hospital. Dr Ramsey takes more time with each patient and I do not feel dismissed when I bring my dog in for various reasons. The recommendations and care the new team provides is thorough and effective. The front desk team is courteous, knowledgeable, and I have never had an issue getting an appointment as an existing customer.Hopefully anyone who sorts reviews by "Most Recent" will see this before judging the practice based on previous owners. I am happy to have them as my vet.

I took my cat here from another vet. The veterinarian here told me things the previous vet didn't about my cats possible food allergies, and explained how the previous treatment probably wasn't the best course of action. Since then, we got my cat on a special diet and she's the happiest ever! The price is right here's the staff is great, and they have a very loveable orange cat who will hang out with you in the waiting room!

These people were horrible. My cat has a serious disease and we have to keep her medicated. But because she is on a controlled substance, we have to jump through fifteen hoops just to get her a prescription, an even then they don’t always send it to the pharmacy.

Overpriced and misdiagnosed my dog. Did not return phone calls in an emergency. Barely saw the actual vet on multiple visits.

Appointments here always felt quick and unengaged. Dr. Sell would barely look at our dog and issues were not thoroughly discussed. With so many good vet options around the Charlestown area there is no reason to choose this one. After switching vets we realized how engaged and attentive other vets are. Our new vet literally got on the floor with our pup! Prices are also high compared to elsewhere. They do no in house cytology and give outrageous quotes!

Won't come back and work with them again. Staff was nice and doctor was okay the only problem I have with this clinic is that they don't know how to manage prescription approval efficiently. And they confused my cat's medication with another. So about one month ago after my cat visit Dr. Sell prescribed me an oral medication to treat my cat's infection. Dr. Sell said we can order it online by ourselves since they don't have the medication in their clinic at that time . When I looked it up online I found no such medication so I tried to order some other similar functional medications. After I placed the order the pharmacy informed me that the clinic refused to approve those medication . I thought maybe this is because the medication I ordered was not right and I can only order the exactly same one the vet told me. Today I called the clinic again to ask about what exactly my prescription is called. Not until now did they tell me that they actually allowed me to purchase my chosen medication and insisted that they already approved one of the medications I ordered. But the pharmacy staff confirmed they never received such approval, which caused me never being able to receive the medication. Now my cat is having the same issue again but I don't have proper medication for him. I'm so mad and frustrated. I don't get why you processing a medication approval so hard and I definitely wasn't paying $90 visit fee for this ignorance. Needless to say you should let your pet owners know exactly what you prescribe them instead of letting them guessing the medication name and searching it by themselves.

I would not recommend this office to anyone. The hospital diagnosed my girlfriends dog with bladder cancer after a checkup. When she attempted to speak with the Dr., she was told repeatedly that she was busy, and was not available, which is understandable. But, only after she asked for her records was the vet available to speak. This caused multiple weeks of distress and anxiety while awaiting an appointment for a second opinion only to find out that the lab that was utilized here delivered a false positive cancer result. I would seek treatment options elsewhere.

This is such a great veterinary hospital. So friendly, answered all my questions. Super knowledgeable. I don't understand the vitriol being focused on this hospital. I would highly recommend this hospital!
