Took my first class with Mat P! It was a great first class. I would definitely recommend taking it with Mat P. Easy to follow and gave clear instructions!

I go to Equinox regularly and decided to try something new last Saturday. I took the class with Mary, and I loved the vibe. Her instructions were easy to follow, and I felt accomplished after class. Everything was seamlessly coordinated, making the experience enjoyable!

Their class leaders are far from inclusive when I wanted to try a free class one of the instructors, Ryan O. Was offering through his instagram to new prospective Barry’s clients. I DM’d him like he said to do and was ignored completely! I really want to join a boot camp type gym where they claim to be inclusive and welcome all types of individuals, but to have one of their instructors offering everyone a free class, everyone being offered one whom asked, except for me. I was so pumped and psyched to be getting back into the gym but to be totally honest. Ryan O. really made me feel bad about myself. In fact I don’t want to put myself out there and try to workout, I feel like I’m not good enough to be a part of Barry’s.

Horrible. Got injured from Olivia's class in Boston on 09/01. She was having the class do poor exercises: avoid her. Almost six weeks out, I still cannot workout and have provided medical documentation to this location's manager. All I asked for was a refund of the classes left on my monthly membership and my membership cancelled. Management said they would freeze my membership, but they did not do this: in fact, they did the opposite and charged me (without notice). Disappointing to not only get injured from Barry's, but also for this location's management to make things even more difficult.Edit: 01/06/24 Still injured 4 months later. AVOID OLIVIA!

I moved to Boston in May of 2023 and have been wanting to find a gym and continue the workout routine I did when I lived in Rochester. I found Barry's and thought, why not - (I'm Deaf and can't hear at all, and Barry's involves lots of talking and instruction from the trainers).Barry's is now my favourite gym - the trainers and staff are the BEST. They accommodated me so well even when I did not ask. They provided me with a sheet with the rounds, timing, information about the exercises, etc. They go out of their way to ensure I have the best experience in class.Thank you to all at Barry's for making my experience superb; you know who you are! :D

This is my favorite Barry’s when it comes to the trainers. they really push you to your limits and provide a workout that is worth the money. Facilities are clean and they often have special offers like drinks to try etc.

Gave one of their classes a try. The classes really do push you. The music is super loud, probably to try and help you drown out the pain. They have a smoothie bar, theraguns, a nice locker room, and towels.

Friendly staff and a great work out if you enjoy intensity and a mix of cardio and strength training.

Picture this: you book a Saturday morning class at Barry's Back Bay and convince your two friends who are visiting from out of town to join you. Naturally, you plan your Friday night around it, refraining from drinking, hydrating, and going to bed early. You also plan your Saturday afternoon around it, booking a boozy brunch reservation to reward yourselves after a hard workout. You arrive at class 15 minutes early because you can't wait to order your smoothie, show your friends the locker rooms and make sure you're checked in on time. You head right to the desk and say your name (you actually repeat it 3 times because they keep asking you to repeat yourself). They say "You're all set, tread 8!" Class time is here and you head to tread 8. After stretching and beginning your warm-up, a man taps you on the shoulder and says "that's my tread." You two step outside to work it out and to your surprise, the staff members behind the desk side with him. They tell you you never checked in and they gave your spot away. I say "I spoke with you 10 minutes ago and brought two guests who also checked in under my name." They look you square in the face and say "I don't remember, I checked in like 40 people today :/" After being ruthlessly gaslit, you're somewhat vindicated when they finally admit the fault was their own and blame it on a "system error." "The class is full though, there's nothing we can do." Zero remorse. Thanks for ruining my Saturday and losing a long-time Barry's lover. Absolutely despicable behavior.

I was amazed by the classes and the entire environment from the moment you walk in. Olivia was my instructor and she made me feel fierce, relaxed, and like I can do anything. I challenged myself a lot during this class and I’m so proud. Located right in Copley Square and back bay, you’ll love this location. Make sure to order a smoothie before heading in your class and it will be made fresh for you in a couple of minutes before your class ends. I loved everything about this studio !

I really love Barry's. For a couple of years, I only worked out at home and was really scared to venture out and try Barry's. I finally worked up the courage a year and a half ago, and I was so happy I did.The class consists of half the time on the treadmill and half the time using dumbbells on the floor. With the music loud and lights dimmed, you can really focus on yourself and not worry about the people around you. I have found the most common split to be 2 segments on the treadmill and 2 segments on the floor, per class. This is great because by the time you're cardiovascularly exhausted and think you can't run anymore, it is time to switch to weights!Despite Barry's reputation as being one of the hardest workout classes, this doesn't mean you should be afraid to try it. You can make the strength sections as easy or as hard as you want to, depending on your selection of dumbbells. Also, the instructors always call out a range of speeds on the treadmill (e.g. 6-8mph) so you can always stick to the lower end (or even go lower if you need to). However, I will note that it is helpful to have familiarity with the names of common dumbbell exercises and an awareness of how to maintain proper form. The class moves quickly and the instructor will not always notice or correct you if you are performing a movement incorrectly. The locker rooms are very nice and have great products. There are some showers. My only complaint is that the classes are quite expensive and the 7:20am classes fill up very quickly.
