I don’t normally post reviews but I must say my stylist at Avanti Salon on Newbury St. in Boston is fantastic. You can find her on the Avanti site under Jae Correa. She colored/blended my hair perfectly and gave me exactly what I asked for. The most unique part is that she had the confidence to direct me to my vision by implementing her own knowledge & expertise. J has always made me feel comfortable & confident during and after the appointment. Plus the salons atmosphere is relaxing & they have great coffee! Highly recommend!. Message her at @juliajcorrea

I have gone to Avanti for years and they have some very talented colorist and stylist however make sure you are ok with paying for your service if you have a last minute cancellation, regardless of your circumstance even if a first time offense. I have never cancelled day of and had the perfect storm of events quite literally after severe weather where I needed to cancel. My toddlers daycare was without power and closed, my sitters fiance was in a severe motocycle accident the night before so she was stuck in the hospital and my husbands flight home was cancelled due to weather late the night before, all things I was notified of after the salon was closed the day prior. As a mom I greatly look forward to this special me time and the last thing I wanted to do was cancel but I couldn’t find any childcare coverage 30 minutes before I needed to leave. They recommended me bringing my 2 year old and newborn to avoid a cancellation fee. Although this was a nice option if you want to avoid a sitter cost, not my first choice. I understand charging repeat offenders that cancel because they are running a business and its only fair to the stylist but as a first time offender and having gone to the salon for 5 years it was incredibly disappointing. Unless you are ok paying for your service or a large portion if you have to cancel, I would recommend going to a salon that has more empathy and flexibility in rare scenarios. I never thought I would be stuck in a last minute cancellation scenario but when the unexpected happen it was going to cost me.

This review is based on Avanti Salon itself. My stylist is wonderfully talented, but it seems like a stressful environment to work in that might hinder creativity instead of encouraging it. This was the only time I've gone to a salon in years that I was not offered a refreshment when I walked in the door, and no one at the front desk said anything on my way out. The shampoo station person in-training did a great job on my conditioning and was careful and considerate, but her trainer and my shampooer left me sitting at the sink waiting for several minutes, and paid no mind to water temperature or anything when I was finally taken care of. The chairs were in disrepair, missing pieces or not locking in place. That's outrageous to me knowing that salons take a cut of the artists' money for using the facilities. Seems like a shame for such a prime location.

EDIT: I changed my review from 2/5 to 3/5 because they reached out to me to rectify the situation which I really appreciated.
Didn't really have a great experience...I stopped by as a walk-in and Kevin happened to have availability to cut my hair at the time. I don't know if he actually didn't have time, or just felt that I was less important as a walk-in customer but he did not really give me the time of day regarding the hair that I wanted, it felt very rushed. I showed a picture of what I was looking for, and he asked one or two basic questions about length and then spent the rest of the time cutting my hair in complete silence... Before starting, he did not communicate at all what he thought about the cut, he didn't tell me what he pictured for my hair, he didn't give any type of opinion or recommendation, he didn't say if he was doing longer layers or shorter...It felt like the initial 3 minute talk about what I wanted didn't even matter because he already knew how HE wanted to cut my hair... Which is fine, but he didn't ever bother checking if I was on board or not.
During the haircut, he checked the length in the back maybe once to see if it was even. Of course I didn't notice how uneven things were because he gave me a very voluminous blowout. I wash my hair at home and can see that the cut is very uneven, there are some longer pieces in the back, my side bangs are grossly uneven and every layer flares out like a medusa head because everything is way too short. I have pin straight hair so its very noticeable... I even mentioned that it was too short at the end of the cut, and he just said "sorry about that, but at least it will grow out nicely"... It looked okay with the blowout but I don't have time or skill to style my hair that nicely everyday.
I understand that the stylists have a lot of experience, but I think it should be more important to be on the same page as the customer about what they want for their hair. It honestly felt like I had no idea how my hair was going to turn out, because nothing was said before the cut, and nothing was said during the cut.
I essentially paid 95$ to get a random haircut. Don't think I will be coming back to this salon.

This has been my go-to salon since I moved to Boston in 2022! I always go to Margarita for my hair coloring and she consistently does a splendid job each time. She’s so friendly and is wonderful at what she does; I absolutely love my red hair. Gio, on the other hand, is terrific and always understands how I want my hair to be cut. He’s extremely talented and I always trust him to cut my hair! These two stylists are the reason I get so many compliments about my new hair :) Grateful to the Gio, Margarita, and the staff at Avanti for being so reliable!

My experience was so so.
I originally went for a haircut and got bangs and was happy with it. When I went back for a bang trim they charged me $20 for something that took 2 minutes lol. Personally I think that’s a little overpriced, as I’ve been to Korean salons where they do it for $3 and American salons where it’s been on the house if you got them to cut your bangs for you the first time. But I let it slide since my stylist did a good job and also blow dried it.
My third and last visit however was a bad experience . Same stylist, but it was like she flipped a switch. She cut them uneven and did not even blow dry or style it. I thought it would look fine once I had washed and styled my hair, but my bangs were shorter on one end and had some long strays.
I still had to pay $20 and mentioned to the receptionist “$20 for a bang trim really?” And she responded with a “Well yeah, how much did you think it was going to be?” ?
That was my last time with them. I’ve since moved to the suburbs and went to a different salon for my next bang trim and haircut. The new stylist seriously asked me if I tried to cut my own bangs because of how amateurish and uneven they looked!! I’m not sure she believed me when I said nope this was from a “high end salon at Newbury street”.
I guess this place is fine if you want a regular haircut and getting some colour because otherwise they don’t want to put much effort into maintenance cuts they see as beneath them but are still happy to overcharge you for anyway because it’s a “Newbury Street” salon.
Aaaaand now this makes me miss NYC salons and services and their much better value for money.

I’m loving the cut Gio gave me. It is adorable and it feel so fresh. He gave me a long pixie and made it feminine and bouncy. He put so much texture into it. My hair looks like that of actress Audrey Tautou. Thank you Gio!

Edit: I got contacted right after with a proposed refund, I increase from 1star to 4stars for the prompt reply and the professional proposition. She was nice, but I had clearly expressed my desire to keep long hair by showing her a picture of long hair maybe 2 or 3 times. I'm not sure why I ended up with a short haircut that was completely different from the photos. I would have given maybe 2 stars if it had not cost me $80 and if I hadn't shown her the pictures 2 or 3 times.

This place is a joke. The receptionist is rude, the staff is smug, and the stylists are dismissive. I would highly recommend avoiding this place, especially if you are looking for any glossing or conditioningI went in for conditioning about a month ago and the receptionist was immediately rude to me saying I was late and threatened to take away the deposit. She acted like I was a nuisance and couldn't answer my questions. When I finally got to see the stylist, she rushed through the appointment and didn't seem to care about my concerns. The receptionist too lied about treating me this way.The whole environment in the salon was toxic and uncomfortably smug. The receptionists were all very cliquey and made me feel like I was being judged. I even overheard two of them making fun of my appearance. After wasting my time, I left the hair salon feeling humiliated and angry. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially not if you. They will do anything to refuse and not admit their mistakes, even not take responsibility!! There are much better hair salons on the street out there that will treat you with respect and provide much better quality

SANDY did an amazing job on my hair. I went for a partial blonde highlight. She was so sweet and asked me multiple times if I needed anything, explained what she was going to do and did it perfectly. Highly recommend for a blonde highlight!! made my hair look so natural

This review is solely for Julia (Jae) Correa. She is simply the best! I call her the hair goddess because she is so knowledgeable about hair and really makes your hair dreams come true. I've been to my share of hair stylists where you tell them one thing but you get something entirely different. However, Jae is different and just gets it! REASONS TO COME HERE: -FOR JAE. That's honestly all the reason you need. She is prompt, knowledgeable, and makes your hair dreams come true. I've never met someone so passionate about hair and it really shows. She previously did a balayage on me which was the peak moment of my hair life and I will never get that back ever again. She is THE BEST. SERVICE: amazing!! Jae makes sure you are well taken care of, offering you water and making sure you are comfortable. PARKING: may be challenging since it's in Back Bay! PRICE: I'd say the experience is priceless because of what you get, but they use products that are good for your hair which is basically investing in yourself. Overall, whenever I visit Boston and I can wait it out to see Jae instead, I do that and it's worth it EVERY SINGLE TIME! Thank you so much, Jae!!
