I recently saw a post about someone finding dark spots on sliced meat (kalbas) and being worried about it. I wanted to share my experience. I've been seeing kalbas at the Super Vanak during different time periods, and I've noticed those dark spots too. I've always wondered about them.
I am nutritionist, so I did some research and found out that these dark spots are actually quite common in smoked meats. They're caused by the smoking process and are completely harmless. It's just a concentration of the smoke flavoring. So, no need to worry!
Of course, it's always important to trust your instincts, and if something looks or smells off, it's better to be safe than sorry. But for those who are wondering about the dark spots on kalbas, hopefully this helps!

I recently purchased sliced meat product(kalbas) from sepet vanak, and upon opening the package, I noticed blackened areas on the sides of the product. Concerned about potential spoilage, especially since I'm currently pregnant, I returned to the store for clarification. While the store staff offered to refund my money, they assured me that the product was not spoiled and deemed it safe to eat.
However, The appearance of the this product raised significant concerns for me, and I did not feel reassured by their response. The staff mentioned that it was "my concern" rather than a problem with the product, which I believe is not the right approach. Food safety is paramount, and I expected a more thorough inspection and acknowledgment of my concerns.
I urge this supermarket to take customer concerns about food quality more seriously, especially when it involves potential health risks.

Lovely little independent grocery store with a cafe next door. Excellent selection of hard to find spices and tea, huge/soft pita bread, and lots of other specialty items that are usually only available online. Highly recommend
