You will not regret booking with Chris! He is absolutely an amazing teacher and individualized our sessions to make sure I learned what I wanted but made it so it matched my skill level. If I could, I would give him 10 stars because he is that great at what he does and how he teaches. Going to these lessons made me feel more confident not just in self-defense but in general.

My son has taken martial arts for many years. A lot of stuff he was taught was basic and not applicable for self-defense. Fight Back Solutions is a great school that teaches real-world self-defense. My son enjoys every class, and the fact that it is one on one learning environment is even better. We will go nowhere else

Speaking from experience regarding Fight Back Solutions - the instructor Chris is highly trained and very knowledgeable in many different forms of self defense. In the time I have trained with Chris, he has taught me the many ways and possible situations that you could encounter in everyday life. Trying to find the best solution, diffuse, alleviate, counter and confidentlyphysically defend yourself and family with force should you need to. He is patient, and is very capable of training all skill levels, I would definitely recommend his many years of experience in martial arts for any age.

I have been seeing martial arts instructor Chris Fernandes since 2011 off and on. Chris is the only North East instructor I know of that has direct lineage to Bruce Lee and teaches Jeet Kune Do with the methods and philosophy that Bruce Lee would have wanted it to be taught with. Take what is useful, discard what is useless and add what is inherently your own. Chris lives by this. Not only is he a mixed martial artist with a deep understanding and application of many different systems but Chris adapts every lesson to his student’s ability and personality. Chris can do this with ease since his other professional background is in behavioral psychology. With this experience he develops personalized methods for each person wishing to take their martial arts understanding to the level they wish to take it. Chris has also developed his own system which is evidence based on real self defense techniques for the development of confidence amidst stressful situations and for a valid application in everyday life using the philosophies inherent in real martial arts; to never have to use it by having the mental fortitude and personal peace within to conquer any situation. I have started going back to see Chris now that I am working on myself again and within the scope of one lesson I was reminded at the magnitude of his strength, mental capacity for learning, and willingness to teach others what he has put to practice in his daily life helping youth in crisis and being an incredible father and husband. I have never met someone so strong, so smart and so determined to optimize his life for the betterment of others and himself. If you want to meet a Bruce Lee in the flesh without all the fluff who truly passes on the teachings of Jeet Kune Do, you don’t have to go farther than Assonet Massachusetts to have that experience. You won’t be disappointed. I promise.

Chris is a wealth of knowledge of probably every martial art you've heard of, and some you never knew existed. He has first hand experience dealing with unruly/violent individuals, which gives him real-world experience in the application of his knowledge on an ongoing basis.Smart Self Defense is ideally name because uses his Chris's background in psychology expertly to tailor-fit combat techniques to the type of student you are. A petite 15 year old girl and a big, 275 pound guy are not going to have the same attributes. Chris has a keen eye, and will create a program designed to make his students reach their maximum potential. If at any time you feel overwhelmed or don't understand something, Chris will take the time to put things in a way that gets through to you, not just bulldoze on to the next part. There were times I couldn't believe how hard of a time I was having grasping a certain move. Well, like they say, patience is a virtue, and Chris has plenty of it, if you get stuck.I went to Chris with a curiosity about a certain fighting style I'd seen in a movie and a desire to learn how to protect myself against attackers with weapons. I'd taken about a year of kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before coming to Smarter Self Defense, but was blown away when Chris started educating me about the dynamics of an actual life or death street fight.Studying with Chris dramatically increased my confidence in my ability to protect myself and people I care about from others wishing to do me harm. And, not all of the content has to be about hurting someone else. I learned a tremendous amount about being about to control and subdue someone who wasn't necessarily trying to rip my head off.On a more personal note, Chris is fun to talk and joke with, will go out of his way to help you, and seems like an all around good person.Hope this helps any people who are trying to protect themselves for whatever reasons or just want to learn about different fighting systems. I know this review is lengthy, but I base a lot of my choices off of other peoples' experiences and want everyone to be able to make informed decisions. Smarter Self Defense deserves every word.
