The truth is I had a bad experience with a lady, say the manager of the place, she is a Panamanian lady, if I'm not mistaken, she is an arrogant person who treats people badly just because of the position she has, bad service.
They should improve the personnel for that position.

The number of times I've gone to this Safeway and they were out of product is pathetic. Entire bakery empty of baked goods, for example.
I live right upstairs but shop at Giant instead now.

While it is conveniently located and has a solid selection of items, the scan analyst at this particular store is bad. Almost every time I'm there, items ring up significantly higher than they were listed for on the rack and tags for sale specials hang up way longer than the sales last. It's almost deceptive. Add to that, most coupons require you to download the Safeway app and select all of the items you'd like discounts on, rather than just applying the sales to the items in-store. Plus the app lags in applying the discounts so even if you select a coupon in the app while shopping, it will not be applied to the final sale. Plus, the cost per item often is more than the Giant just around the block. I only come here because it's right at the train station and within walking distance.

Understocked. Understaffed. Overpriced. Last time I went both elevators and one of 2 escalators were out of service (!). I’ve been to better grocery stores in rougher parts of DC.

This is a very good grocery store. The only downside as I see is the extremely narrow aisles in which they still put additional displays. They also used to be open 24 hours but since the pandemic they close at night.

i recently went to safeway for a few things. i came for a few things in the store and had a question and went up to a manager and he was very rude with aggressive attitude. i was able to catch his name due to his name tag his name is james. he talked aggressively off the jump. as a manager i would expect for them to want their customers to feel welcome and be happy to answer any questions in a nice manner. safeway needs to train them with customer service again because i wouldn’t expect this from a manager. no professionalism or hospitality shown. Unbelievable!

I stopped visiting this location because of the rude thug like security men. I also hate the gated off path you must follow to enter and exit the store. I HATE THIS SAFEWAY LOCATION AND WILL NEVER RETURN.

This store is horrible, it feels like an ICE detention center. The whole store is gated/ blocked off, all goods over $20 are locked behind glass and the staff treats you like a criminal before you even enter the store. At 7:30 in the morning I was told I had to walk around to another entrance even though there was no one else shopping and the entrance was wide open. The store requires you to scan your receipt, just to leave the store. On top of the horrible customer experience, lots of the food is often close to or past the expiration date and I’ve also had numerous instances of being overcharged for items that have been listed to be on sale. I refuse to shop here anymore and only did so because they are the only grocery store open before 8 am in the neighborhood. I encourage anyone who lives close to shop at the giant, Aldi, or Trader Joe’s near by.

How does Safeway Wheaton only have one cashier at checkout time during Rush Hour? Self Checkout is bogus!!!

Trying to get an item from the locked away stuff is hell…you gotta chase and beg for someone to acknowledge you just to leave in frustration without what you came for…Uber will have to speak to the store managers if they want all their shopping items picked up…customers are always short of a few items because of lazy, incompetent and not enough staff.

When I go here now (March 2024) I'm reminded the to adage why you play hard to get when you already hard to want. However last night was the first time in 3 years that the all of the sales on the placards actually applied at check out. Congrats on that.
Wouldn't come here if if wasn't 2 blocks from my house. 100

Bring back the old management. This used to be a gold standard store. Now it's a dumpster. Where did you all find the incompetent store directors

Has gone from overpriced to trashy in a few short years. Elevators broken, barricades in place because of extensive shoplifting, poorly stocked...
