I have been going to Shirley on and off for the last 30 years. If you are looking for inexpensive then do not come, but if you decide to go to Strands and Shirley G you will get what you went in for...fabulous hair!!!

Strands’ owner, Shirley, arbitrarily charges exorbitant amounts for hair styling. She intentionally steals from her customers while styling their hair and laughs in your face when you question her about the prices.I visited her shop over 15 years ago and she was doing it then and she continues this way of operating which is unprofessional and highway robbery because we have allowed her to.I am reading current reviews and have spoken with friends who have visited her shop and everyone who has visited her salon has indicated the same problem. Ladies, do NOT give her the pleasure of continuing to steal from us. Go else where to get your hair done at a reasonable and recurring price AND file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Eventually, the BBB will be aware of a shady business and follow the proper legal actions against Strands.Services: Hairstyling

I totally agree with other reviewer (Amy Gottlieb) way over priced and takes advantage of her customers. My experience some 10 years ago was horrible wash, color and ends trimmed for more than 300.00.The worst part for me is I left her business for 1 year because of the long wait. I tried to to give her another chance, she had improved the wait time she told me thank you for coming back and then at the end of the services she start adding up all these fees and it was over $300. I couldn’t believe it And the location is in a less than middle-class area. It’s just a joke I’ve been to other places paid less than $100 and my hair was absolutely beautiful just as nice if not better than what she can do, Who cares about celebrities she’s done, if she’s done so many celebrities why is she there in Wheaton Maryland?Services: Shampoo & conditioning

Only go to Shirley if you enjoy sitting in a chair while being belittled and degrated. I had been going to Shirley throughout high school and college. I went natural so i dont really go to hair salons anymore. Its unfortunate that Shirley is a waste of true talent. I dont understand why shes so disrespectful to her customers-the backhanded comments and insults really need to stop. My mother and one of my friends stopped going to her because of her nasty attitude. If you do go to her, bring your headphones. That woman needs to go to therapy, not just church.

Buyer beware....I ended up at Strands Hair Studio based on the reviews...I went for a simple haircut and highlights (I literally trimmed two inches - not a complicated style) and was charged $580. Shirley exploits her customers and arbitrarily makes up prices. I was offended and horrified and will never go back! I don't care if Shirley has worked on the rich and famous - no cut or style is worth the money she's charging! Don't waste your time...

I was excited for my consult with Shirley for highlights. Their website advertised a summer special $350 inclusive of highlights and toner. I arrived at 7:20am for my 7:30am appointment. After waiting over 45 minutes I have a 3 min consult. I show her what I'm looking for, she ask if my hair is colored already, and commented that my hair looks healthy. We go up front schedule a date and she prices everything out. $850!!!! To which I say, Im sorry I was interested in your summer special, to which she says there isn't one. Or she's not aware of one. But if I can bring in a picture she would honor it. Then she says my 3 min consult would be $55. I was never told there would be a cost. Let alone such a high cost. I was expecting $25 at most. I will not go back, waste of time, the salon looks mediocre at best. For these prices this really needs to be a more professional, transparent experience.
