There are too many group exercise class cancellations at the Hill Y in Westminster. Cancelled classes occur because of school closures, actual and predicted weather conditions, lack of instructors and substitutes, and poorly planned activities, including construction. The Hill Y in Westminster tries to offer too many activities in a small amount of space often sacrificing regular programming and affecting its members. I am tired of seeing text messages and emails saying, "we are sorry for the inconvenience" or "try this class instead". Unnecessary group exercise class cancellations truly affect my well-being. If the YMCA administrators and decision makers were truly sorry, they would make a change, prorate our memberships, or compensate members by lowering the price of monthly memberships. Instead, the prices increase each year. Here is an example of how the decision is made to cancel classes: Friday evening, 2/16/24, a decision was made to cancel FOUR group exercise classes because of predicted snow fall on Saturday morning. Here I sit on Saturday morning, 2/17/24, and the roads are clear. The Hill YMCA is opening at the regular time, but all the group exercise classes are cancelled this morning. When the Y center is open, group exercise classes should be offered as well.

The Hill Y is a friendly environment and the people there are easy to work with. The facility is clean and the equipment and classes are excellent.

I usually go to the Towson and I wish Westminster had more family swim times so we can visit this location more often. The lifeguard was so helpful with the swim test for my son. He even taught him so many new techniques. Westminster: please have more family swim days during the week. The people here are much nice and professional than the Towson location!

For a reasonable cost each month, I am extremely happy with the well-maintained facility, the friendly staff and helpful, knowledgeable instructors.

I love this Y! There's so much to say about how special this place is. From the people to the activities. I started coming over a year ago because I had a stroke and needed to heal physically. I started small with walking on the treadmill. After a few months, I started bringing my sons for stay-and-play. Now, the Y is a central part of our family lives. We do weekly activities, Y Camp in the summer, and are benefitting from the amazing work that the Y does for our community. Thank you so much for all of your work and support. Carroll County is a better place because the Hill Family Y exists.

The Y has provided my family with a space for us to do fun activities, learn, meet others, and bond with each other.

We have a unique situation in which we have a disabled child and continually have to spend thousands (sometimes tens of thousands) each year on making an environment accessible to him. Making the Hill well aware of our situation over the past 4 years, we are told there can be no financial assistance since it's based on gross income and not even adjusted income after medical bills and such.We were forced to go to the PA YMCA where such rules don't exist. For us this had been a blessing in many ways as they have a changing facility for the disabled and a warm water pool where my son thrives. We still pay dues, but they are aware and understanding that full dues would be difficult for us, and months we have hospitalizations we would be paying for nothing. It was refreshing that people cared about the family and could come up with something that works. We were then interested in signing up our unaffected child for swim lessons or the swim team but the PA YMCA currently doesn't have a team. So we reached out to the Hill and were promised a response. They even had me bring my son in for a swim check almost 3 months ago. Needless to say they never did get back to me. Raising a child with extreme special needs is hard, and it's hard on everyone even my unaffected child. It's really sad to me that an organization that claims to not discriminate and claims to help those that need it- isn't at all helping. I don't expect hand outs. But our family can't afford $100 a month regardless of what income tax shows. Most people see this and are helpful, the Hill Y has not been.I hope this review can help the Maryland YMCAs improve their open door policy in which you consider the entire situation. Not just a narrow minded view.

The y has a variety of great fitness equipment and I especially like the fact that they have classes you can attend like yoga class Zumba class also pickleball and basketball. They can also help you get started in a regular fitness routine also let's not forget about the pool very clean and warm.

I’ve been a member now for a year and I love it. My daughter attends camp here which has made her come out of her shell. She has learned how to swim and met many new friends. My children love the splash pad. My husband works out there daily and I love all the available exercise classes. It’s a great place for the whole family.

I really like this gym. And I’m not a gym person, but I like the pool workouts. And the staff is helpful and friendly

All staff at The Hill Y in Westminster are very supportive and friendly. Some of the lifeguards even gave me pointers on my swim strokes when I asked for help! This is my favorite pool to get some laps in! There is such a welcoming community at the Y. I am proud to be a member.

Personally witnessed multiple forms of abuse and discrimination at the Hill YMCA and it is absolute trash and child abuse and discrimination are rampant. I was an employee for 5 years. I was also a member of the Carroll County community who utilized their services and programs. RUN AS FAST AND FAR AS YOU CAN. Your kids just get yelled at ALLLLLLLLLLL day long, they get neglected and resultanlly sexually abused. I've heard AND seen it, myself. I've also experienced it, myself. I can give names of abusers and screamers, they yell at kids. All. Day. Long. Just ask. Worked there for a long time and there are abusers that are still there messing with kids. I'm trying to protect other babies from their trash care. A disgrace to the human race is the YMCA. They love to abuse kids and provide abusive care at an expensive rate, I know all the details. Call me.
