Dr.Schueler & team are the ONLY ones I TOTALLY trust with my 14 yr. old hemophiliac Jack Russell, "Spencie". We have been through may a close call with Spence and Dr. Schueler has always taken fantastic care and planning for Spencie's well being. He is well known and highly respected for his specialty in Neurology & Rehabilitation.

I was referred to Dr. Schueler in Oct 2022. The emergent vet in Hagerstown and regular vet in Emmitsburg told me to put my little dog down because she had brain surgery. After meeting with Dr. Schueler and showing him a video of how she acted during one of her episodes, he said she is far from euthanasia. He knew right away it was Chiari Malformation. He took a lot off my shoulders since then. We go see him every once in a while, because my Furbay is doing so well on the medicine he has her on. I would recommend Dr Schueler to anyone. The girls in the office are very professional and polite. They have called me a few times just to check and see how my baby is doing.

Our first impression of this vets office was really good! The ladies in the front seemed to really care about our pup and the situation we were in.When we met the Dr. he really couldn't really care less that there was a dog in the room. No beside manner to be seen towards her as a new patient, I was expecting more.Fast forward to the day of our girls spinal tap.... We get there and the Dr. doesn't even realize she is there for that procedure that day. Keep in mind, the dog is knocked out completely for this... it's a big deal to us! So, we were a little skeptical of leaving here there for it, but we did....We were given the results a few days later. Our pup was put on prednisone as well as her seizure medications. This prednisone literally drained the life from our puppy.. It did so much damage not only to her liver, but to her mental status. We got a different prescription filled of a particular medication that can not be broken when taken as it is extended released thru the day. We were told to give 1.5 of these pills twice daily (instead of writing the RX correctly for the right dosage in one pill) The pharmacist wouldn't even fill it that way for us as it is not to be given that way. The pharmacist called the Dr.s office to get the changes made before they filled it for us. This prescription was written by one of the techs, not the Dr.We were made to make an appointment to ask questions about medication changes (at $225 a pop as soon as you walk into the door as well) When I asked why we needed to make an appointment to just ask some questions I got attitude from the person taking the phone call. We were made to feel dumb for some of our questions and other questions simply told...'I don't know'.We were told on another phone call to lower our pups one medication -- this is a medication that during the appointment we were forced to make that we ALL agreed not to lower for at least 6 months from then! So, no bedside manner, no real answers, a total of 4 people working there and we were getting confliction information from all 4 of them at some point.I really wanted to like this place!!! I really thought we would! We were so upset about the care our girl was getting that I never even called to say we were leaving for a 2nd opinion... I do not ever just disappear from a Dr. or any type of service situation.Sad thing on top of all of this is, our 2nd opinion neurologist ruled out what Dr. Schueller said was wrong with our dog!!! Also, the 2nd opinion vet...never got the records sent over to them after professionally requesting them on 2 occasions. At least they got them sent over from our normal vet so they had some papers for comparrison =)Before anyone says anything about - oh, you just didn't want to pay the money...nope! We have insurance on our girl and we really lose no monies, but it is unfortunate that $225 is charged each time anyone walks in that door. I expect more for that! Also, we got an MRI of not only the brain, but also a shoulder...and another spinal tap at our 2nd opinion neurologist for less than the price we paid for just the spinal tap here.Do your own research and look around hard before you make any appointments with any specialist. If you're reading this it is because you too need care for a neuro pup or cat! Good luck to you in finding your specialist.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Schueler and his staff. Our dog was unable to walk on her back left leg and her muscles were deteriorating quickly. She was originally thought to have an ACL tear and unfortunately that was not the case and the orthopedic vet told us he believed it was a neurological issue. I called two neurological vets but couldn’t get an appointment for almost a month. Our vet also referred us to Dr. Schueler and his office got us an appointment in just a few days and scheduled surgery the following week. Everyone was very friendly and professional, they called to check on our dog several times after her surgery and were always extremely helpful answering all our questions. We know she has a long road of recovery ahead of her but she is on the mend now and doing well.

We took our dog, Cali, to Dr. Schueler on a Wednesday after taking her to see our vet and a nearby emergency pet hospital. Neither one could help her. We were told she had swelling on the brain. We were handed a list of Vets who may be able to help. Dr. Schueler was the closest so we went to him.By the time we got to Dr. Schueler, Cali had not eaten or drank in more than a day. She was curled up in a ball and completely non-responsive. Based on Dr. Schueler's best professional judgement, we left her in his care. He immediately started on an IV to get her hydrated and also put her on a course of medication. We retuned on Thursday and she was showing some signs of improvement and we decided to let her stay another night. The next day, she was able to walk a little and was doing much better. We took her home with us that day and continued to give her medicine provided by Dr. Scheler. Just a few days later, she was eating, moving and begging for food and a week later, she is going strong. Many thanks to Dr. Schueler, Leah and the entire staff. Great Job!!!!

Please take the time to read this if you need a Veterinary Neurologist and considering Dr. Schueler. This may be a little lengthy, but I wanted to take the time to write this review as I know some people really let reviews impact their outcome. If you are reading this I would guess you are in the predicament that I once was in, needing and searching for a Veterinary Neurologist. I was given a few names and with those names a little feedback, which wasn’t always positive. Of course I came to the internet and started my own research. When I came to Dr. Scheuler and read the reviews, I was really skeptical because the reviews were not the best. However, I prayed and knew I needed and wanted the best care for our dog. I said I would have to see for myself and made the first step to call the facility. The person who answered the phone (Jessica) was very pleasant, professional, showed much empathy, compassionate and very knowledgeable. I could go on and describing the many kind attributes for the excellent phone manners and customer service that I was given. By the time the conversation was over, I had my appointment booked in a timely manner (next day to be exact) and recall praying again that the doctor and remaining staff be as pleasant. On the day of my appointment I was very nervous as my dog wasn’t feeling well and I was told he had a herniated disk in his back, which was the onset for us needing to see a specialist. Upon our arrival to the facility I was immediately taken in the exam room. The hospital is very clean. Brit was the tech who was working with us for all the vital information. She was just like Jessica, she displayed the same professionalism and I could go on with her positive character as well. I immediately thought, okay all I had to do now is meet the doctor. Of course I was recalling the negative reviews “rude and no bedside manners”. So now I was just waiting for the grand finale, which was to meet Dr. Schueler. He was all but rude. He was polite, listened to me, and to be exact diagnosed my pet correctly immediately before confirming with any test. Remember I said I was told herniated disk in back, well that major problem was in his neck. Not once did I feel rushed like you do with some doctors and I know I took well over an hour. He was very informative and cared about my pet. A detailed care plan was constructed which reviewed our options, his plan in debt, and the cost. Yes, I thought the cost was a little more than I anticipated, but I had to consider the seriousness of the illness and all that was involved. Seeing my main concern was to keep our pet comfortable I didn’t take him home as I knew I couldn’t keep him comfortable at home. They assured me leaving him that they would get him comfortable. The next day came and Dr. Schueler called me with findings just as he said he would. Surgery was performed and I got a follow up call afterwards. To date, the communication continues from pre to post surgery and on as the recuperation is very strict and lengthy. To sum up, this facility is like a one stop shop. Anything needed for the care of your pet was already on site. The staff was polite and professional, very hospitable. I wanted to be sure I took the time to write this review as people are quick to write negative reviews, which really can impact decision making, but far to frequent do we do positive reviews. So, for all those who value reviews, and if considering a Veterinary Neurologist I highly recommend Dr. Schueler. Believe me, our pet is family and when it comes to your family you want the best. Though we still have a long way of healing, wanted to say Thanks to You and your staff!!

Our family can not say enough good things about Dr Schueler and the staff who work there. They have been nothing but professional and caring for our 14 year old dog Snickers. Our dog was diagnosed with IVDD and has been paralyzed when we first started going there. Today was the first day Snickers walked into the office on his own and the staff were just as excited to see his progress as we were. We will forever be grateful for for the extra time we have with our dog and we owe it all to the Dr.

My dog suffered a back injury that resulted in temporary paralysis of the hind end. We saw the ER vet, then our vet, then Dr. Schueler. And I am so thankful to have found him. He was the only one who spoke with confidence and competence regarding my dogs injury. He was honest, and kind in a succinct and matter of fact kind of way. I appreciated the time he took to explain the treatment plan. His office staff is very kind and compassionate. We are lucky that no surgery is needed, but I wouldn’t hesitate to trust Dr. Schueler and staff if it was.Ps:it seems to me that most of the bad reviews seem to focus on the cost/expense of treatment. Healthcare isn't cheap. And that is not Dr. Schuelers fault! Maybe its time to look into pet insurance…

Dr. Schueler was very informative and his explanation of what was going on with my service dog , Maxx, made perfect sense. Maxx was diagnosed with diabetes 5 month ago and since has had 6 seizures. His blood sugar levels were all over the place and it was hard to keep his levels consistent. I was concerned that there were neurological issues, that’s why I went to him, he was highly recommended. I don’t judge a book by its cover, like the negative comments all have in common. I’ve learned in life that brilliant minds are minds in deep thought and can seem to lack attentiveness, but they are actually very concerned and sympathetic for you pet and are figuring out a way to help them. He told me that Maxx has high blood pressure and this is what was causing his inconsistency in glucose levels. He put him on blood pressure medication and recommended a few more tests in the coming weeks. His assistants, who were just wonderful with Maxx, made me an estimate, which seemed reasonable to me, and charged me an expected rate for my visit, which I found normal for a doctor, and I was perfectly satisfied with my visit.I don’t understand the negative reviews. other than those who wrote it think that they deserve special treatment or can’t afford to have pets. I highly recommend Dr. Schueler.

Take a good look at reading these reviews before deciding to go here! Dr. Schueler was rude and not personable at all!!! Our dog was examined in less than 10 minutes and we were told it was either a slipped disc or stroke. (Dont’t know how he would know this without an MRI to make sure)Told us we had two options, $10,000 surgery (not including MRI) or conversation management at home. Thank goodness we chose conservative management while I called around to other neurologist (which by the way when I said I went to Ronald schueler, a lot of the ones I called said they were not a fan either). We found another amazing neurologist who is significantly cheaper. Seems like Dr. Schueler is just in it for money and doesn’t truly care about the animals and their families.

Been meaning to write this since summer 2020. Saw this doctor twice and found the office lacking. Despite being well into COVID they did not seem to have gotten organized to do business. Doctor met patients in parking lot but seemed to not have any type of established order. No shade, no place to sit but expected us to wait in the car, regardless. No one including the doctor seemed to take responsibility for anything. Each time bills were more than verbal quotes I was given and the office manager said it was in the paperwork provided at the time of scheduling. I never received paperwork prior to appointments. When I pointed out she rescheduled the appointment she said I should have gotten it when I originally scheduled. On the last visit I left the dog for a test and was charged a fee for him being there. explained I was not told that in advance. Office manager refused to credit it and doctor refused to discuss it. Office manager had rude abrupt manner that I found most unpleasant. Do NOT recommend this office for anything. Have found a caring pet neurologist elsewhere who has provided excellent care for my furbaby and has seizures under control. much more considerate treatment for both my furbaby and me.

Great customer service. They spoke with me in detail about my new dog and what I need to do for him. We're happy to do follow up calls as needed. Prescribed meds to help with his problem and overall I felt gave me a good foundation of knowledge to care for him.

I took my dog here for spinal surgery. I’m so grateful that I came here. I never felt pushed to get a procedure. In fact he said I could take my dog home or only if I wanted to, I could leave him there over night to see if he truly does need the surgery. I ended up leaving him there since it was just easier on me. And yes he did need the surgery which we got squared away the next day.The place is expensive, but they are a specialized practice with a specialized doctor. It’s not your typical vet office. Animals are getting rehabbed and getting surgery here. Just like with humans the specialized stuff is expensive, but we have insurance.Anyway, Dr. Schueler knows what he is talking about. Very friendly as well and cares for your dog as if it’s your own. Never did I feel he was rude nor was his staff. His staff was extremely friendly and also treated my dog as if he was theirs as well. I asked tons of questions and got the info I needed along with papers on what to do after discharge. They’re always available if you need to talk to the doctor too. Not a bad experience for what it was.

This vet was rude and had no bedside manners. He didn't introduce himself and instead immediately asked if I had him on speaker phone, which I was about to tell him I did because my husband was outside due to Covid restrictions. (I was setting it up when the vet walked in and was telling my husband "I'll put you on speaker" .) I explained to him what brought us in and what medications we had our dog on. His physical exam was a total of about 2 minutes and he didn't explain it at all, which one would think he would since I just presented him with my partially paralyzed pet who he might have been performing surgery on later. After the short exam, he just launched into talking about surgery, after he went on and on. I asked him what he thought the surgical outcome would be. I added that I thought he didn't do the test for deep nerves. He then became very rude and told me that he had, but insisted that he do it again so that he could "show me". He told me that he doesn't appreciate my comment and that he takes his job very seriously. A normal person might have said, "Oh, yes, I did test it when I was holding his paw" instead of acting like a Neanderthal. He then tested my dog again, this time when the dog showed signs of feeling the pain and yelped, the vet then proceeded to say that he "normally doesn't like to hurt dogs" but since I insisted he show me and since I accused him of not doing his job, he had to hurt my dog. He then upped the rudeness by getting into a staring contest with me - I was very angry at his treatment of me and my dog, and I really couldn't believe that this man who claims to be a professional was behaving in this way. Granted, I participated, but I'm dealing with the trauma of our beloved pet being paralyzed and potentially needing surgery. When my husband tried talking to him over speaker phone - while standing just feet outside the ground floor window where he could see the entire room, the vet actually told my husband he couldn't talk because he was "having a moment" with me (the staring contest). His idea of an exam was NOTHING. We could have done it over the phone, quite honestly. The general exam at my regular vet's office was more thorough. We sat outside for probably an hour trying to decide what the best course of action for us and our pet was. We opted for not doing the surgery, though honestly, if Ronald Schueler had been a better person, we might have gone forward with it. Nobody should ever go to Ronald Schueler. He treats people terribly and was rude to his staff as well. I'm considering changing my regular vet as well just because they recommended him.
