Used H&R Block, Taneytown tax year 2024.
Called on Friday, April 12th. When I called the office they said they could get me in Sunday April 14th in the morning.
I dropped my paperwork off and they told me they would file them but would have to file an extension. I didn't think anything of it simply because I didn't know any better. Didn't hear anything back from H&R Block until October! At which point they told me I owed taxes. And that there was a problem with my dependent's SS#. At that time they informed me that I owed on my tax return ( no mention of this before) AND never was it mentioned that if I owed ( regardless if I knew how much) that an extension does not keep you from accruing penalties. I received a letter from the IRS in November that I owed 4x's the amount that H&R Block originally stated. Turned out H&R Block had my dependants SS# wrong. I went back in and they said that they would file an ammended/corrected tax return. I was never notified that it was completed. I only found out when I called in January.
Needless to say i paid for H&R Block to file my taxes and was penalized for not paying my taxes on time ( the 9 months that it took them to process them).
Communication was terrible and transparency even worse!

At this point, it has been a full year that I have not received my tax return due to the severe mistakes from the tax preparer at this location. Because the tax preparer was more interested in treating us like an assembly line, instead of people, she ignored the 3 times I brought up that I bought an EV and asked what information she needed for that credit. Instead, I was told that there were a lot of stipulations and I probably wouldn’t qualify for it. Because of that, my taxes had to be amended which, GUESS WHAT?! FILED INCORRECTLY! When I called H&R Block, they refused to assist me. I contacted BBB and they gave me a refund for what I paid for the service but refused any assistance in actually making this right or assisting me in filing correctly. I was forced to do it myself. At this point, I am still waiting for my refund and I have had the most piss poor service I’ve ever experienced.

Lack of transparency and follow through. Was told that taxes were being filed from the main office but receiving emails from H&R Block saying they weren't. Taxes were dropped off March 17th and filed on April 14th after receiving misinformation on the status. I would not recommend using this office.

very sad experience Thursday the 11 th. this began Monday 8th when I called to inquire why i hadn't received my call from HR block or Frank? learned Frank my agent retired. She said one person cried learning of this news? I later found out why.
alarmed i stated we were regular customers who came in this time every year
and asked would someone else be available she advised YES! relieved
the appointment was made for 2pm Thursday 12 th.
Thursday we arrived a little early as I said to the receptionist, i know we were early to see the other agent, she then asked dropping off? i was confused said since we never knew this new agents protocol, I didn't know? she then goes to back to see Joe then comes back said well you don't have an appointment? Confused I said yes we do at 2 it was then i realized she thought we were walk ins? she never checked even though i gave our names?
then after that was straightened out she goes back to get Joe who comes to the front says we need to file extension at this point i'm concerned as he never looked at our information or ever looked at his computer to see how Frank did it over the past 10 years. i advised this information wasn't advised when i made this appointment.
I insisted he'd at least take a look since we had an appointment at 2 pm and at that moment he looks at the time and says yes in ten minutes?????
I advised that i'm not wasting his time he's wasting mine.
so he takes us to a area in the back fingers through a page not really looking at it or anything and lies to my face saying this was complicated and i should have come in sooner. 2nd dig ( no one ever listened to me or tried to confirm.)
I reminded him that Franks retirement was never relayed to this long term customer and your clerk never said you would not be able to prepare my taxes today last Monday.
had I been advised i would have called Westminsters office or go somewhere else?
He then reply's that's what i should do?
I advised, no, thats what your going to do since this whole thing could have been avoided by notifying me that Frank retired or the receptionist saying all taxes brought in now would need extensions!
he had to throw in the dig again that i need to come in sooner?
I restated point in fact that every year this was the date i came in to see Frank check the computer which he never did.
I had to insist he call Westminster HR and find someone else to help us.
he finally conceded after i told him this review would be on facebook.
He called made arrangement with Barbara at 7 pm but conveniently didn't mention that we actually had an appointment with him and he was incapable of doing this complicated tax work?
bottomed line 7 pm appointment with Barbara was held the taxes were completed BY Barbara in less than an Hour!!
finally Frank is no longer at Taneytown
and there is no point of ever going there again.

this was my daughters 1st year to file taxes so we took her to block on 2/14/24 my daughters taxes should of been easy not there was a quetsion the the preparer could not answer she needed to ask someone well 2 nd appointment was 2/21/24 tax person forgot to ask about the question that needed to be checked on taxes done for my daughter done yet NO now there is a 3rd trip today 2/22/24 pretty bad you take all info to file and it takes 3 trips to file a 19 year olds taxes real good for a new tax payer don't you think
