One of the first classes I took at Willow Street Yoga was with Joe Miller. and I knew right away that this studio was unlike any other. The teachers practice careful alignment, incorporate breath and meditation seamlessly, creating a space that allows for steadiness and ease, on and off the mat.

Willow Street Yoga provided a beautiful hybrid class for our employees at our Wellness Fair. It was easy to follow the instruction and the instructor offered plenty of support.

I am a regular student at Willow Street. What I love about the studio the most is the sense of community. The teachers really know and care about their students, and will do everything to help them find what they need from their practice. I love hearing stories from fellow students like "I came here to take a kids yoga class 10 years ago!" and "xxx (teacher's name) took care of me through my pregnancy and postpartum." Students are from all age groups, genders, and backgrounds. Some classes have elementary kids and seniors practicing in one room! Needless to say the teachers are wonderful- they have a wealth of knowledge about human anatomy and the broader, deeper traditions that inform modern-day yoga. Each teacher has their unique interpretation and approach. Honestly, I learn something new in every class, and feel happier, calmer as I walk out. I feel that I get so much more than advancing my yoga asana from being part of the WS community. If you are a beginner who's curious, a longtime yogi who is super nerdy about yoga... and seeking a welcoming community with people from all walks of life, this is your studio!

I drive over to Takoma Park from Kensington to take a yoga class on Thursday night. The timing works great for me, and I really enjoy Carol's class. She's an excellent teacher, and the staff are always very helpful and supportive. Nice environment, and consideration of Covid protocols. I find the space to be clean, and I'm able to wear a mask or not, as I feel appropriate given the number of people in the fairly large studio.

I've been going to WSY off and on for over 15 years. I like the friendly classroom style and the focus on small details of how to get the most of out each pose, including alignment and adjustments for individual needs. It's not about getting it "right" for the sake of getting it right, but rather the way to get the most strength in the pose and the alignment to protect your body. I can really feel the difference when I implement the instructor's suggestions. The classes are a little slower and more talky than some studios, but when I practice by myself at home, I always find myself referring back to the tips and corrections I get from my classes because I get so much more out of my practice. Unfortunately, the studio has dramatically downscaled as a result of COVID-19--the Silver Spring location closed and the in-person schedule is much more limited than it was prior to 2020. There are a lot of online and hybrid classes, but I definitely prefer the in-studio experience. The Takoma studio is bright, airy and pleasant, but the parking lot is tiny and often full. Nevertheless, my visit to WSY is the highlight of my week--I always come out of class feeling better than when I went in.

Willow Street is a welcoming studio for beginners of all ages and sizes as well as those who have taken yoga previously and want to deepen their practice. The instructors all have years--and in some cases decades--of experience and are extremely knowledgeable about proper alignment and can offer several ideas for using props or other accommodations. The monthly membership is a super great deal, especially if you're going to attend at least one class a week regularly and want the opportunity to try out one a couple of others.

It would be helpful if one could sign up for notifications when the center isnt open, without any promotions. If there was was an email posted I would have used that.

No question in my mind: Best yoga studio in the region! The first time I attended a class at Willow Street, the teacher knew my name and dialogued with me about my flow, with a friendly balance of challenge and support. Joe connected our work "on the mat" to the rest of lives and I left thinking "THIS is the yoga I've been looking for for the last decade!" That was 2013, WSY has evolved and keeps delivering the very best. Highly recommend.

For anyone who understands the philosophy of yoga beyond asana's, and who wishes to delve into pantajali's 8 limbs of yoga, this is the place to practice.Though it is more pricey than most yoga studios, the philosophy of yoga is respected here. It goes beyond stretching, beyond the body, into the soul of yoga, as a union of body, mind, and spirit. Yoga tradition is honored here, and not distorted like many yoga studios do.

Their classes are easy to follow and challenging. The instructors are very patient and warm towards you. I started as a visitor and I was in bad shape. After a few months and a few sessions, I am feeling a lot better and can handle stress better. The breathing techniques have helped me with public speaking. The restorative yoga is the best and now I am able to sleep for six hours or more each night. Willow Street Yoga is the best yoga studio in the area. They have two studios, one in Takoma Park and another in Silver Spring, MD. Both studios are large, clean, and easy to get too. The only caveat is parking which during certain times of the day may be limited. However, you will have a good and close parking spot. Oh yeah, now I am an everyday practice member and 20 lbs lighter. Try it out.
