Service, style and experience is like none other. I've searched the area for a salon that met my needs and was having a tough time until I found Bruce and Avatar. Highly recommended.

It was my initial visit to this hair salon, and I was incredibly impressed. The stylists was not only friendly but also swift and highly professional, displaying extensive expertise in hair care. The salon itself was immaculate and maintained well.
Yeama, who styled my hair with flat twists, was excellent—her energy was fantastic, and the prices were very reasonable. I'm eagerly looking forward to revisiting the salon to experiment with different styles.

Alexis did my relaxer and left me with terrible chemical burns on my neck and my hair because she laid my hair on my neck to brush the relaxer on. She also left bald patches on the back of my head from the relaxer. The customer service was terrible from start to finish. Alexis didn’t acknowledge the injuries she inflicted on me during the appointment. I didn’t realize the extent of my injuries until I took pictures of the back of my neck the next day and fully grasped the extent of the burns. So, I called to complain. Alexis was disrespectful during the call and wasn’t apologetic. Instead, she gaslighted me by telling me the injuries were my fault???
I’m in physical pain and feel violated by someone who I paid for a service only to be left with damaged hair and painful burns. Alexis has poor people skills, terrible customer service and is bad at her job. Relaxer shouldn’t be applied on the neck.

I am an avid fan of Avatar Salon & Wellness Spa and I was a study customer until the pandemic hit. After a two year absence I came back and the same welcoming and professional staff was still there. My favorite technician is Lynn and she does a fantastic job on my feet and hand nails every time. I think it’s the best nail shop in the DMV!

I made an appointment for my first haircut ever at this salon upon recommendation of a cousin who recommended Yeama. I ended up getting an appointment with Jasmeen. Perhaps the first warning flag was when I made an appointment for a consultation (I ended up canceling and rescheduling my first appointment because of a family emergency). I took the train for my consultation only for the stylist to meet me in the waiting area, quickly ask me what I wanted (I told them that I wasn't exactly sure- hence, the reason for setting up the consultation, but had some ideas and showed them a picture. She looked at the picture and asked when can I come and we made an appointment). The whole process took 5 minutes, which I was a little annoyed with since I figured during a consultation the stylist will sit you down, look at your hair, and work with you on figuring out a style that would suit you. Nonetheless, I went ahead and made an appointment. Day of the appointment I got there and had to wait a little. Also, felt like when I came in to check in the staff found me funny or something/were laughing at me or something. Just a weird vibe, maybe I imagined it, but it was definitely something. The wait wasn't too long. The stylist says she remembered what I wanted. I still went ahead to show her a picture and said I still would like to put my hair up in a high bun. She cuts my hair after washing/combing it and asks if I'd like her to style it. We end up agreeing on flexi rods. I end up being at the salon for over 4 hours. While doing my hair I mention this is my first time getting a haircut and that joked that I didn't want to leave the salon crying because of a botched haircut. While the style is definitely shorter than I thought it would be I warm up to it, thank the stylist, and pay my bill of $130 ($156 plus the tip). Note: I am a student so, $156 isn't exactly cheap for me. The next day I realize how high maintenance the style is and decide to see what it looks like wet/how to style it. After coming out the shower I begin to cry at how different it looks from the picture I provided and how much length was chopped off (I'm okay with losing some length, but I still wanted to ability to french braid my hair/put it up in a bun). Furthermore, upon blow drying it I see that the cut was very bad and the sides are not equal, some pieces of hair on one side are longer than the corresponding sections on the other side. I realize that by styling it, it was easy to hide the botched hair cut. Probably will not come here again and wish I had some of my money back because this was a bad-quality haircut. I feel like my hair was disrespected. I would hope the stylist meant well, but based on the quality of the cut it seems like a lack of care was put into it, which is kind of pooped up given you are working with someone's hair. Hair is important in how you walk throughout society/your confidence. I know stylists probably get tired of doing hair, but they should remember that they are working with an actual human being with a life, insecurities, and who is putting their trust in the stylist to handle their hair with care and hopefully respect it. This experience has made me hesitant on letting anyone cut my hair again. My mom even asked if the stylist was laughing while doing it/if we argued because it looked intentional. Well braids it is for the next few months!

I had a very pleasant experience with Sharice. She treated my hair so well. A bit pricy but definitely worth the money when you want your hair taken care if. Every one was really nice and welcoming. Great vibes.

Zero stars. Bruce is completely unprofessional. He butchered my hair. I came in to donate my hair and then have a nice trim. On the way to what I thought was going to be my chair, he stopped me halfway in front of a mirror and was brushing my hair. I was explaining to him that we should do two ponytails to donate my hair since I have thick hair. He was not listening at all and just started chopping my hair (while I was standing without a cape). I told him to stop and asked him what he was doing. He said he was halfway and needed to finish cutting. Needless to say he butchered the second half even worse than the first half. The second half had a mullet and just uneven patches, jagged edges. (I’ve donated hair before but normally I’m sitting down and a ponytail is placed to keep the hair in place).I was in state of shock!!! He cut about 16 inches of hair and tried to justify saying that a donation required 6 inches of hair!!! I am completely heartbroken. I went from having waist-long hair to having a pixie cut!I’ve been going through one of the hardest weeks of my life and I thought getting a haircut would help. Needless to say I left the salon in a panic more traumatized than I came in.Avoid this place at all costs!!

If you are looking for a new Salon or want a change I higly recommend Avatar Salon. They are an Aveda salon, and have a great selection of Products including Brilliant and Sap Moss. They are very welcoming and you can walk in when it's not busy. They have hair color, cut, relaxing services. And they also have a Spa for your self care. Definitely looking forward to returning.
