My wife and I stayed at the Inn in August 2022 and August 2023. The fact that we returned bespeaks the fact of how happy we were to be there. Five stars all the way around, including the lovely and delightful hosts. Just terrific.

Will, Miriam and Hamish are the best hosts. They make you feel like part of the family. The breakfast is too die for and the rooms tastefully decorated and clean. We will be back for sure when in the area.

Even for a quick getaway such as our one-night stay, this inn was the superb choice. It is an easy one-hour drive (at least from Gaithersburg, MD), and everything about this lodging was superior. Will was an outstanding help to my husband even before we arrived, as he recommended a local florist that would deliver to my room a gorgeous bouquet of flowers festively awaiting me on my birthday! Will welcomed us very enthusiastically, and it's totally true that he and Miriam are the consummate hosts, and Hamish was a most playful added attraction. Our first floor bedroom was extremely cozy and restorative, and our bathroom divine. We have traveled extensively, and this shower was right up there among the best we have ever experienced! Also, their locally-made soaps and lotions were exquisite. Believe all the rave reviews regarding the perfect breakfasts--not one food group was overlooked, and all was scrumptious! They even had honey which is the only thing I take in my tea. Loved the mini-avocado toasts, the cinnamon buns and other delectable offerings. Loved the serving pieces, both elegant and whimsical! During our too-brief time therein, we also enjoyed a few black cats, lots of ghosts, many skeletons, and several sparkling pumpkins surrounding us, as the inn is thoroughly dressed for the season and upcoming Halloween holiday! Do yourself a favor, and treat yourself to a getaway--regardless of the length of it--at this magical place! We shall return!

My family and I needed a place to stay on our return trip from the east coast and we wanted to visit Antietam Battlefield for the history. I spoke with Will on the phone and he was so friendly, laid back, and easy to talk to from the start. When we arrived for our stay, it was no different. Some people have the gift of hospitality and Will and Miriam have it. They make you feel like a friend, while being very attentive to your needs for a very comfortable and restful stay. They also are interesting people, so you might find yourself enjoying some great conversation. Their breakfast was fantastic! The variety was incredible and they seemed to prepare it with joy, which made it taste even better. I selfishly felt a bit hesitant about posting a review so they would not become too popular for when we return! But I could not do that as Miriam and Will deserve to be acknowledged for how well they treated us, and how well they treat the others they serve. We hope to return again. Thank you, Will & Miriam!

We spent 2 nights at The Inn at Antietam in early August and had a wonderful stay. Will and Miriam were the perfect hosts and made us feel like part of their family. Their breakfasts were beyond phenomenal, and the rooms were comfortable and immaculate. We thoroughly enjoyed their stories and spending time with them at breakfast and throughout the day when we were not out and about exploring the battlefield and surrounding area. We would highly recommend The Inn whenever visiting Sharpsburg and we look forward to returning soon.

Amazing stay! Very friendly and made me feel at home. Great firefly show at night and Hamish will be your best friend if you give him some bacon. Thanks!Nearby activities: Very short drive to great ice cream and the Antietam visitors center.

Too bad the rating scale tops out at five stars. I wish I could go higher. We used the Inn as our convenient base for a 3-day family visit to the Antietam Battlefield and surrounding area. The Inn and grounds are beautiful. The several feeders beside the patio attract a large variety of birds. The patio was our place to sip a pre-breakfast coffee, to bask in sunlight or shade and relax after a day's touring, and to enjoy an evening chat with our hosts and fellow guests. Inside, it looks like an eclectic museum -- a blend of history and whimsey. We were charmed. The well-kept Union soldiers' cemetery borders the Inn property and was my place for a quiet early-morning walk. The five guest rooms are individually decorated, with separate baths, amenities, comfortable beds and fluffy towels. The Inn is stocked with a large selection of Civil War books both in the library and in individual rooms.Other reviewers have already lavished praise on the outstanding breakfasts so let me just second their comments. Any enterprise is dependent on its people and Will and Miriam make it all work beautifully. Will could be the very model of a genial, helpful innkeeper. Miriam is a joy: chatty, knowledgeable, talented, educated, well-travelled and obviously dedicated to her guests' enjoying their stay. Hamish, the Inn Dog is an entertaining friendly charmer. It's often the unexpected that make an experience so memorable. Here are two we had. First, Miriam breaking out a cricket bat and ball to teach my ten-year-old granddaughter and her dad how to play cricket while educating us about The Ashes. Second, thousands of fireflies slowing rising from the lawn and the brush at the back of the property at dusk and ascending into the trees to put on a spectacular light show as night fell. We're already planning a return visit.

Will and Miriam are amazing. Their dog is also amazing. My grandma and I stayed one night and had a great time. The rooms are very clean. There is a library if you feel like reading or there is a living room to hang out in. I'm addition to providing an amazing breakfast, Will and Miriam had brownies out in the common room. I'm really looking forward to visiting again!

I’ve been coming to the Inn at Antietam since they first opened seven years ago, and like a great bottle of wine they just keep getting better with age. The rooms have been immaculately reimagined, no detail is overlooked, and I can guarantee you cannot find better cooking elsewhere. My two biggest complaints are the beds are so comfortable I don’t leave them for my planned early morning run, and when my stay comes to an end I am disappointed I cannot eat their cooking for weeks to come. So, if you’re the kind of person that loves a relaxing getaway nestled in a historic setting definitely book a stay at The Inn At Antietam. If you dislike comfort, phenomenal customer service, and one-of-a-kind experiences, you might want to look elsewhere.

My wife and I made an impromptu trip to Sharpsburg with no plans, just to get away. Miriam and Will are fantastic hosts! They're so accommodating, and made our stay extremely relaxing. Thanks for all of the suggestions. We'll be seeing you again.

My husband and I are what I like to call seasoned B and B guests. The Inn at Antietam is by far one of my favorite stays. Will and Miriam are wonderful hosts—beyond accommodating and wonderfully funny. Will even lent me a water bottle to use for a hike around Antietam. The rooms are well-appointed; the breakfast pastries out of this world; and the brownies put out for snacks are to die for. This is the first inn that truly felt like I was staying in someone’s personal home. Many B and Bs have full staffs with innkeepers off site; you won’t find that here. This is their home, and the genuine care for it shows. Hamish, their family dog, is a treat! I cannot say enough lovely things about this place and will most definitely be a repeat visitor. Do yourself a favor and book a stay here. You won’t regret it!Rooms: Very clean and well-decorated.Nearby activities: Antietam and Harper’s Ferry are must sees! Also Shepherdstown is a cute college town to visit.

Will and Miriam are wonderful hosts. We booked the entire Inn for family during a wedding a couple of years ago, and our family still talks about what a wonderful experience they had at the Inn. My wife and I came back for a weekend getaway visit with the same impressions. The food is scratch made—and so, so tasty—and the rooms are all nice. Miriam and Will clearly love what they’re doing, and we were super impressed that they remembered us after a lengthy gap period. Nothing but nice things to say about the Inn, the hosts, or the food. You won’t regret it.

What a perfect place to stay when touring Antietam! The home has been lovingly restored and is decorated with eclectic memorabilia. The owners are a lovely couple who clearly enjoy sharing their love of the area with guests. Breakfast was absolutely amazing. Fresh home baked pastries (three different kinds!) along with a lovely egg dish. We would absolutely stay here again.

My wife and I have stayed at the Inn at Antietam half a dozen times. Our first visit was motivated by a tour of the battlefield, but since then it has been a regular stop on our annual treks from Texas to New Hampshire and back. The accommodations are comfortable and spotless, the breakfasts are wonderful, but what really draws us back is the feeling that we are welcomed as friends. Miriam and Will really seem to enjoy their guests, and we look forward to many more visits with them.

In thinking about what to put in this review I see a list of amazing points, but I do see one negative . I’m afraid that the Inn at Antietam may have set the bar too high for B&Bs in the future. The Inn itself is beautiful, set in a wonderful historic site and clearly maintained with love. Add to that gorgeous suites and lovely common areas and you have a fantastic combo. Not cold, prim, or overly themed. A comfortable, livable space to ‘come home to’ after a day of adventure. The owners Miriam and Will (and don’t forget Hamish) are welcoming, warm, generous and uncommonly knowledgeable about the area. If you need any advice on what to see, where to go, or even just want to know more about the historic area you are visiting they are there to help! Beware of trivia though… ;)Then there is breakfast. If you ‘aren’t a breakfast person’ just toss that aside. You want to be when you stay here! Creative, flavorful, interesting, and above all delicious. Not to mention you literally won’t need lunch. Be prepared for a take out bag to fuel your adventures.Truly a wonderful experience for all of us- we will be back! And hungry :)
