Without fail, EVERY time I come here early in the morning, there is a line. The problem is not the line. The problem is the one cashier and no self-checkouts open. I got to this store a little after 7:30am today. I got in line about 7:45am. Finally got out at 8:00am after getting 7 items. This was only after a line formed down an aisle and grew more, so the manager FINALLY opened self-checkouts around 7:57am.
The manager on duty had the nerve to say she had work to do to the guy behind me, so the self checkouts were not open. I should have went to Weis on Belair road because they always have ALL the self checkouts open + a cashier. BUT because this was closer to my job, I figured I wouldn't be long. Still ended up late for work.

This store used to be a family store that helped the community and went out of their way to be compassionate. You used to be able to get empty boxes from them if you had to move that they were going to throw out. They'd been doing it for years. So I recently called and asked them to save some boxes because I have to move my sick mother and someone in the butcher department was very rude became indignant and said we don't give anything away here. We do nothing like that he said. I was like wow how come you didn't know they've been doing it for over a decade. So long story short it's all about the money with these people the days where they actually cared about you and went the extra mile are long gone. I remember they also used to donate baked goods and breads that were close to their expiry date to community outreach workers. I guess they probably stopped doing that too. It's a terrible waste how so many of these corporate establishments would sooner throw food out than donate it to the needy. The prices are always high so it's not as if they don't have a way to give back to the community if they wanted to. If you want to see what I mean just go through the self check out line where workers will make certain you're doing everything right but do not greet you or act as if you matter because you're servicing yourself.

I have been shopping at this store for 7 years and I have never been treated the way I was today by the cashiers at lane 9 and 10. Instead of directing me to which lane I should go to they continued their conversation and not a glance in my direction. I tried to go to lane 10 first and the lady had her back turned still talking so I went to 9 and they were still talking so I started putting my things on the conveyor belt. Still no greeting or acknowledgement that I needed to pay. She said few words so I told her how rude the both of them were being. I don’t feel like shopping here anymore and being treated like a 2nd or 3rd class citizen. PLEASE TEACH YOUR CASHIERS PROPER ETIQUETTE! I refuse to visit giant anymore after today.

The experiences I have had at this Giant have typically been undesirable (moldy fruit, unstocked items, improperly labeled sales) but this one takes the cake. I went in for a quick grocery grab and noticed a sale on an item that I typically buy for my family. Buy one, get one free? Simple enough, right? Not quite. Once I get to self checkout, (which is an absolute joke here at times) I notice the sale is not being honored so I call over the cashier attendant, Graham. I explain to him that the sale is not being honored in the system, but is labeled as so on the item. He goes to check the weekly circular. He does not find it. No problem, surely he could run to the back or have another employee check that out for me, as it’s a store discrepancy. Nope. He asks me to do it. No worries, I’d like the deal, so I excuse myself from the register, taking my items (excuse me ATTEMPTING to take my items) with me as not to hold up self check out. He then tells me that I’m not allowed to take my groceries with me to check the price. Like what? What sense does that make? He wanted me to leave all of my unpurchased items at a register that other customers could be using. I told him I’ve been walking around with the same groceries why do I need to leave them to go check a price. Should I leave my purse too? My keys? Literally made ZERO sense. So I tell him, if I’m going to walk back here to check a price for YOU, I’m going to take my groceries. I do just that. As I’m walking to the back to check and take a picture of the price for verification, I see the security guard hanging around where I am. If you know anything about this Giant and that security guard (the old Caucasian one with that hat) you know he doesn’t move a solitary muscle from that front door. So I already knew why he was back there. When I confronted him and told him he does not have to watch me in the store to take a darn picture, he acted dumbfounded like he ddnt know what I was talking about. I told him do not act like the cashier ddnt send you on a mission to watch the black lady shop. Like if you’re going to move foul, at least stand on your square and own up to it. So I’m back up at the front because in spite of all of this, I still want my groceries. Now, I’m being asked by some other lady that works there what seems to be the problem. I explain the issue to her, and though she checked me out at customer service, offered NO apology for the store’s deplorable behavior and pathetic attempt to profile. I was almost home when I decided to return all of my groceries. I went back and returned all of my groceries, dealing with the same woman and then again, no apology for the store’s poor customer service. Shout out to the other security guard who apologized to me, but I told her she did not have to apologize for behavior she wasn’t a part of. That other security guard though (and he’s lucky I don’t know his name, but I’ll find it out) he needs to GO. This was not my first encounter with him. I came in before to exchange some nasty rotten berries, cleared it with the customer service rep, only for him to follow me out of the store and ask what I was doing. Not once did he ask anyone at the customer service desk what was going on. But had the unmitigated gall to follow me out of the store. I’m thoroughly disappointed and will also be filing a complaint with corporate. This was a disgusting way to treat someone who shops here pretty often, even with the abysmal quality of fresh produce options. You would think that someone letting you know there is an error in the system on a certain item would prompt the store to update it in their system so it doesn’t happen again, thank you for pointing it out, and making it their business to ensure you have what you need. Nah, they just treat you like you’re a criminal for trying to do the right thing. Never again will this store have my business, and I IMPLORE you to shop elsewhere.
