I'm so sad to leave this review. We've been taking our beloved pup to this clinic for nearly three years and have always enjoyed the kind, personable vet techs. Our dog suffers from terrible nausea and anxiety when traveling in the car. In September 2023, before a road trip, we took our dog into Montgomery Animal Clinic to get a refill on his travel medication. We got the meds, and assumed all was good. This was a routine visit focused solely on my dog during car rides. The vet never addressed any other issues or concerns.Since we'd gotten the medicine before and knew the dosage, we didn't think to check the label on the bottle. Some administrator mistakenly wrote the medicine was for anxiety due to vet visits, and the instructions read for us to drug our dog every time we brought him into the clinic. We didn't notice this. When we called a few months later for a routine appointment, the clerk told us they couldn't provide service unless we drugged our dog. We pushed back and got the service needed without meds. This week, February 2024, we called again for his vaccines.A rude and belligerent tech named Jazz told me that, due to this file note, we couldn't bring our dog for vaccines without first drugging him. I explained this was an error and the medicine was for travel, not vet visits. She refused to admit to anyone making an error despite the clinic not having an in-house doc - we literally see a different doctor every time we visit. She refused to check on this, berated me, fought with me, and lied multiple times about this diagnosis being communicated to me.I held firm and said no, this was simply a mistake. Mistakes happen! I'm understanding. But when staff refuse to investigate, grow belligerent, and outright fabricate information on a medical record - I'm done. Jazz was an immovable brick wall, incapable of providing any help. I tried to state my case (while also acknowledging that I should've noted the discrepancy on the pill bottle sooner) but she was desperate to argue with me and bully me until I submitted. There are other reviews from the past year stating similar mistakes - clearly this is a pattern, and we are not the only victims. I leave this review so other pet parents can make an informed choice about the sort of the care they want for their fur babies. Montgomery Animal Hospital is great until it isn't - and good luck finding any help when a silly issue like this arises.

Great experience every visit! The front staff are so welcoming and the techs are so sweet and thorough! Every staff member there is very knowledgeable and want the best for your pet. They are open and honest for all treatment recommendations and cost. Their pricing is the most fair you will find in the area!

I’ve been taking my dog to MAH for 10 years. While most of the staff is helpful, I’ve had both great and poor experiences over time. The inconsistency in care became apparent about three years ago. Despite my concerns, I stayed due to my dog’s age.Their exam and visit prices are reasonable, but medication and vaccine costs are high, so I opted for specialty clinics for vaccines.Within a short time period I saw three different MAH doctors for the same diagnosis. Either they didn’t leave clear notes or the doctors didn’t review the historical visits because all had different and contradictory solutions.Recently getting appointments has been challenging and they’ve referred me to an outside practice more than once. I was already concerned with their consistency and that my dogs saw a different doctor every visit especially because they don’t accept outside exams for certain things. In January 2023, I requested a fecal test, I was told that they couldn’t run the test because my dog’s annual exam was done at the vaccination clinic and not by them.I scheduled the exam in order to get fecal test and asked for a nail trim and to check his teeth because at the time I had no other concerns for an appointment. I left the sample when I checked in. The stool was never tested and I didn’t realize it until I recently tried to board my dog. I think they didn’t label the sample or the cashier forgot to charge me but none of that information was ever communicated to me. At the time they had some issue at checkout so they emailed me the receipt. I didn’t review the itemizations until they told me they had no record of the test.I made an appointment for what I thought was going to be a minor issue during the visit the doctor also dismissed it as a minor issue, told me his teeth had major build up, prescribed a week supply of pain medication, and told me he’d get back to within a few days if there were any concerns discovered by the radiologist. Since there was no follow up I assumed everything was okay. And the teeth observation was weird because every appointment I’ve had since January, I was told his teeth looked good.A few weeks later, I contacted the office because I couldn’t access my dog’s medical records through their app. During that call, I inquired about updates on the radiology report, and was informed that the doctor would follow-up.During the follow-up, I was informed my dog was in serious pain and would require a series of tests and exams. To my surprise, when I finally received a copy of the radiology report, it was dated for the day after the initial exam, indicating that they had this information for weeks without keeping me updated..I was upset and emotional and decided that it was time to switch vets. I received estimates from a few different vets for the test I needed. But ultimately decided to have them done at MAH, because they overcharged me at a previous visit so I had credits on my account. To my surprise I was charged $150 more for the test than I was quoted. So I told them I’d pay for the other test when I returned the samples they were unable to collect. But was told I had to pay in advance. After I dropped off the urine and fecal samples as requested, I received a call stating that the fecal exam wasn’t included in what I had already prepaid, despite being told otherwise during checkout. I decided to delay the test because I found it unreasonable to request unrelated tests when I didn’t know my dog’s prognosis. She left a ridiculous note on my chart in the tune of the client refused to pay for fecal told her I was throwing it in the trash. They don’t always follow up and their chart updates lack essential information, but they had time to leave a tacky note.I’m still awaiting updates on all the test results, and it’s been a month since my dog’s teeth were noted as a concern, but the last exam report stated that they were clean. My experience with MAH has been inconsistent and frustrating, prompting me to seek a more empathetic and reliable vet.

We are leaving town but have truly appreciated the care this team provided our cats. Loss of love and expertise. Bryce was a stellar technician and made sure our cats felt welcomed. Highly recommend!

First off, I want to say that I never imagined needing to provide MAH with a negative review. When my puppy got a bad allergic reaction on a snowy winter evening, Dr. Jaffe stayed after hours to save her. We have been going to MAH ever since (13 years now).My dog has been going to MAH since she was a puppy but ever since the original vet/owner (Dr. Jaffe) passed away, the clinic has never been the same. Constantly rotating vets with no knowledge of (or concern for) my dog’s history, new vet techs that are drastically inexperienced compared to previous, and snappy front desk reps that give inaccurate information and are super disorganized. My dog got a dental a few days ago and began acting wierd immediately (she’s gotten tons of dentals before and even larger surgeries, so I know when something is off). We took her back to MAH the next day, and was tols she was fine and probably just being “a bit needy”, even though she was showing all the clinical signs of pneumonia. Due to their poor practices and negligence, she contracted pneumonia and had to stay at an ER ICU for two days in an oxygen chamber. She is now home recovering (with a long road ahead of her) but I will never take my dog back again. It is a shame to see how Dr. Jaffe’s practice has deteriorated.

The doctors and assistants here are fantastic, even the owner. We have 6 kittens that were born a few months ago and they set aside an hour to see all of them at once for us when needed. They get excited when we show up with the 6 kittens and you can tell they truly love animals. They're great.

I have no words to describe the incredible treatment we got from the veterinarian and staff as we dealt with difficult situation. We took our dog Luna for a routine visit and asked about a recent breathing issue. Sadly, we learned our baby had late stage cancer and probably only days to live. It was Friday afternoon and the vet was scheduled to leave soon but he waited for me to go get our children so that they could be there and say goodbye. I also noted a number of other small details to help us deal with it.

I don't have words to describe how grateful my family is to the staff for how we were treated during a difficult situation. The care has always been top notch but when the time came to say goodbye to our Luna they show incredible compassion and patience allowing me to drive home to get our kids so that they could spend some final moments with her.

Wonderful veterinary hospital! The staff are wonderful and caring. The facility looks brand new inside and the staff clean up after the pet visits quickly. The tech took us back promptly before our scheduled visit time and the veterinarian arrived very quickly. All were caring during the annual visit and there is no doubt they truly care deep down for animals! Thank you. Top notch facility - recommend 100%!

*Long post* I truly appreciate their staff and veterinarians. I recently had to put my dog of 13 years to sleep. We have pet insurance through Banfield Pet Hospital at PetSmart. Despite that, when we needed to board my Coco, we chose to use Montgomery Animal Hospital because reviews shared that the hospital staff was warm and that's what we needed for our older dog. My experience with PetSmart boarding was that they were impersonal and overpriced. We also reached out to other boarders in the area who told us that my Coco was too old to be boarded. MAH welcomed and loved on Coco despite her age. When we picked her up, she looked happy and very well taken care of. And the staff was really personal and communicated. So we decided to take her back again. We just knew that they understood Coco didn't need much activity, she only needed love and attention. They seemed eager to step in for us while we closed out our end of summer trips.A couple of weeks ago, Coco stopped eating. I took her to Banfield for an emergency visit. The vet on hand suggested we try an appetite stimulant but if Coco didn't start to eat after 1-2 days, we would need to put her to sleep. However, I didn't get the sense that the vet shared this information with me out of concern for a patient that has been in their care for over 13 years. Instead, I felt that the vet wanted to ensure that she/Banfield wasn't liable for any legal claims I could possibly make if the appetite stimulant didn't work. She kept repeating that if the medication didn't work, we would have to put Coco to sleep. I completely understood this and didn't need her to repeat it multiple times within the visit.Needless to say, the medication didn't work. Although Coco was under Banfield pet insurance, we had a really warm experience with MAH so we decided to work with them to ensure Coco had a pleasant transition. Our decision was confirmed as the right one when days after Coco's transition, we received a personalized, handwritten card from the MAH staff expressing their condolences. We've yet to hear back from Banfield to even inquire about whether or not the appetite stimulant worked. We did hear back from their insurance department via email to confirm that even though we've canceled our insurance, we would still have monthly payments until May 2023 because our agreement was a contract that has to be paid out. There is no sympathy there or understanding. Only financial motivation. How hard will the reminder be each month when we pay on insurance for our dead pet.Regardless, MAH was the right decision for our boarding and transition needs. The staff are wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone who has a young or old pet or anyone who needs a quick consultation from a veterinarian that hasn't been clouded by corporate bureaucracy.

I initially changed to this practice because it was closer to where I lived and came highly recommended. My cat saw two different vets there and while both were very nice I wasn't overly impressed. The first vet told me my cat was peeing on my furniture because he probably had pain in his box and didn't want to go in it. I explained that he ran around, jumped on and off high places, etc., and never cried out - he clearly was not in pain but she prescribed pain meds anyway. The second vet was a little preachy. He lectured me about the fact that my cat was behind on his rabies vaccination. I explained that I had been struggling financially but that I had finally been able to get the money together and get him his shots and that's why I had brought him and he made some comment like "better late than never". The last straw came in August. My cat was 18 at this point. He had been off his food a couple days and then stopped eating all together. I called on a Monday and the woman that answered said they had no openings until the following Monday. When I asked if there was any way they could squeeze me in she connected me with some guy "up front". He looked up the record and then proceeded to lecture me about how long it had been since my cat was last in - "Do you realize it's been almost 2 years since he was last seen?". Seriously? It's an emergency but they choose to get preachy again. He said he would ask the Dr when he came in if I could drop my cat off and they would take a look at him in between patients. They NEVER called me back! I ended up taking him to the emergency vet on Rockville Pike. They were wonderful with him. I wouldn't recommend Montgomery Animal Hospital to my worst enemy!

Very nice people but very unorganized. I only went to them for a little over 6 months and they had given me the wrong amount of medication, wrong information and didn’t inform me of more shots needed in a certain amount of time causing them to try to charge me even more to get the same shot over again. Instead of trying to compensate for their mistake they just sorry. Definitely don’t recommend.
