UPFATE: It has been a while since this horror occurred. When the doctor yelled through the wall that my cat had congestive heart failure, there were no treatment options offered (truly, it was all I could do to hear the vet screaming through the wall at me). I was given the impression in that "conversation" that my cat was dying from congestive heart failure. Period. I thought this was a death sentence, so to prevent any suffering, and at the subtle advice of the vet, I put my baby down.Since that time, and being an older person myself, I have had experience of being diagnosed with congestive heart failure as well as renal failure. In BOTH cases, these diagnoses were made in an emergency setting and were resolved within hours or days. The fact is, these are NOT diagnoses, they are momentary symptoms. Both fixable.DID THEY TELL ME THAT? NO! They simply killed my cat! Outright killed my cat. Had they told me that I had ANY chance at all of saving my beloved pet, I would have. I had the money. I was not asking for charity!I don't know if they judged me by my age and the clothes I was wearing, deciding I wasn't a young, affluent Rockville blonde - ergo WORTHY - but whatever their impression, they called my cat's condition a death sentence. I believed. All they needed to tell me was that my cat would suffer. End of conversation. They DIDN'T tell me that there's treatments I could try that may save my cat. I probably missed out on another five to ten years with my baby. And the vet that day is DIRECTLY responsible. The veterinarian's paranoia about covid caused my cat to be killed as randomly as if it were hit in the street by a car. That sort of melodrama does not belong in a vet's office.* *This business continues to operate as if COVID has just been recognized, when in fact we are about 16 months past that. Maryland has lifted the mask mandate, but not this business. Far from it. I came to them, not for the first time, to euthanize a pet, a family nember. Once a warm, welcoming, compassionate practice, Metropolitan now acts as a pretend level 4 containment environment were pets are ripped from their people. (Right next door is a pet spa operating normally.) It's July 2021. 72% of Marylanders are vaccinated and yet more have natural immunity. The time for COVID precautions is ending, especially in such a sensitive business. These people have yet to get the memo. The doctor was so afraid of COVID, in fact, that the IV placed in my pet's arm was hooked to ridiculously long IV tubing that snaked out of the room and into the hallway, which is where the vet administered the final shot. Compassionate? No! Outrageous. And outrage doesn't even begin to describe my reaction to this.To add insult to injury, the day I needed to visit the clinic was a Code Orange weather day (meaning high temperature plus high humidity plus high ozone levels). I am in an at-risk group that needs to heed these weather warnings. So where was the waiting room in this post-pandemic practice? Outside on the sidewalk, in the sizzling sun. When I arrived, there was only one foot of shade left right next to the building that quickly vanished . My pet was already suffering. The last thing she needed was her last hours spent waiting in 100°+, humid, polluted air. Once she was taken inside for prep (alone without me), I remained on the sidewalk waiting. The cherry on top? In order to pay for this service, I had to verbally and loudly give all my credit card details over my cell phone from right outside the business to an anonymous someone hidden within the building, for anyone and everyone to hear. Are you kidding me? They couldn't just hold a credit card reader out the door with a gloved hand? Ugh! Unbelievable! This was the most unprofessional, uncaring, nasty practice I've EVER experienced! I'm NEVER taking another animal anywhere near this place! Ever! It's no coincidence that this once busy, noisy practice was silently and eerily empty other than my pet and I. I highly recommend pet p

My family and I chose to put our dog of 10 years down yesterday. The staff members and veterinarians were very patient, professional, and compassionate throughout the whole experience. Thank you for giving us a comfortable and supportive setting to say our final goodbyes to Blue.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Metropolitan Animal Emergency Center was a beacon of compassion and care during a challenging time. After a disappointing experience with our regular vet, we brought our sick, beloved dog to Metropolitan for euthanasia, and the service was exceptional. The entire staff displayed kindness and genuine concern throughout the visit. In the midst of a difficult time, they provided the support and care that our family needed. It's reassuring to find dedicated professionals who go above and beyond to make a difficult situation more manageable. They earned our gratitude and respect for their outstanding service.

The staff at this center are among the most caring and compassionate I have come across in my years of being a pet owner. From the very first person you meet at the front desk, to the techs and the doctors, everyone was extremely caring and helpful to us. The communication was great, and everyone was very patient with us, considering the level of anxiety we had about our pet's condition. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend their services. I've taken my almost 2 year old dog, Oliver, there twice and both times he received excellent care and the staff were very kind and clear in explaining the proposed treatments. Our first visit was for a medical crisis in September 2023 where Oliver's regular vet could not fit him in to their schedule. Metropolitan was able to see Oliver right away and quickly begin diagnosing his illness. They were able to stabilize him and help coordinate transferring him to another emergency vet who had somene immediately available to perform some additional imaging. We saw them again in November 2023 for a relatively minor eye injury and the staff were just as warm and helpful. We may have just been lucky, but both times we've been there the wait time was 5 minutes or less to be taken back to an exam room. I will definitely use them again if we have any more urgent care needs.

Metropolitan saved my puppy’s life! If you are reading this, you are probably in an emergency situation and trying to figure out the best odds for your pet. Go here. I had never been here before but am so glad this is the place I chose. The vets and vet techs are amazing - always there, highly communicative, and it is clear that they love animals. They make sure you approve charges in advance. If your pet has to be admitted, they contact you at least twice per day and you can call or visit whenever you want - and they respond immediately. My dog went from near death (due to a virus), to stable and happy in 4 days. These people rock.

Our cat was having trouble breathing, we were worried we were going to have to put her down, and the staff were amazing - very professional, took fantastic care of our cat and made accommodation to our needs - looked at different emergency options, different care options for our budget, and prioritized our wishes for our cat to not be in pain. Our little girl responded to the medications and we were able to bring her home with a plan for what to do if it happens again. Thank you for being so caring during a stressful time.

Our dog was extremely ill when she was checked into MEAC. The people there could not have been nicer or more caring. The front desk staff was cheerful, the techs were good communicators, and the vets really dug deep to figure out what was wrong with her (and it was a puzzling case). She stayed there two nights and so there were several shifts of techs and vets, and they all kept current on her case. They allowed us to visit her any time of the day or night which I thought was amazing - some hospitals won't even let you see your animal. We will definitely use them again if we have need of emergency services.

Highest praise for extraordinary caring and compassionate euthanasia service under trying, difficult circumstances, Sunday Dec. 24, with virtually no comparable service available. Our nearly 17 year old Shih-Tzu had been in renal failure for 6 days. On Friday, Dec.22 visit to our Vet. it looked likely that he would be stable through to our Tues. Dec.26 scheduled visit. Clear by late Sat. Dec.23 that euthanasia would be required Sunday Dec.24. Dr. Carolyn Yang and the staff at Metropolitan Animal Emergency and Specialty Center were all most kind and considerate guiding us through this horribly difficult day with kindness and grace

DO NOT RECOMMEND. The one star is for Dr. Ye -- (Or however her name is spelled) not informative, not knowledgable, gave the most aggressive and useless treatment plan, overall sounded incoherent on the phone. Never even got to talk to her face to face in regard to discharging our cat after a thousand dollars a night of monitoring and treatment but no improvement in his condition. Our cat ultimately did not need what Ye suggested and is doing fine.

My large dog, who has aggression issues, needed to see a doctor for a cornea ulcer. This was on a Sunday so Metro Animal ER was really the only option in the Rockville area. They were dealing with surgery and multiple pets waiting so they were honest that the wait time would be significant. However, they were kind enough to give us a room to wait in so that we were safe and comfortable. They made every animal a priority and I was so impressed with their care during a terribly busy day. When they got to my dog they were extensive in their care and took the time he needed to get all possible treatments started. I greatly appreciate their dedication to helping animals in their time of need!

Do not go there! A week ago two doctors there recommended me to put my dog to sleep at the hospital. I went against their medical advice and decided to take my dog home. After observing the symptoms myself and google online to find home remedies, my dog is able to eat, walk, even bark in a week. Very disappointed with the recommendation and doubt the doctors’s ability to make diagnosis.

I had a fantastic experience at MAES the other night. From the front desk to the triage tech to Dr. Cenera (the vet). Everyone was so nice and caring and professional. Thank you!!!

Absolutely amazing experience. Everyone was so caring, patient, and kind. We brought a very sick cat in on Sunday and, unfortunately, had to have him euthanized. The decision was heartbreaking, but we could not have asked for better support than we got from the staff. And today, this arrived in the mail. So thoughtful and kind. Definitely 5 stars.
