We had a tremendous experience with Ed Boyko's team at Allegheny builders. They were hard-working, honest, and the quality was excellent. It was such a comfort to go through a huge project with a builder I trusted. Their quality speaks for itself.

We have worked with Allegheny on a major addition and several large projects over the past ten years. They are awesome. Eddie is super-conscientious and thorough and his team is wonderful - they care, they are detail-oriented and they leave a clean work area. Plus they are just plain good guys; took the extra time to get things just right, interested in our family, played with our dog. Just an all-around great experience each time. On the last project, there was a hard deadline (45th reunion party) which I felt bad about imposing cuz I should have gotten started sooner but they rose to the challenge and beat it by two days!

We hired Allegheny Builders & Contractors to build our home, based on lots of research and numerous recommendations and references. We were extremely pleased with Eddie Boyko and his team, and love the final product. The craftsmanship and quality of the work is excellent. They pay careful attention to detail and aesthetics. They are easy to work with. Eddie is responsive and communicative, and has great integrity. It is clear he really cares about his projects and his clients. Not only do we love the final product, but Eddie and Allegheny stand behind their work and have continued to be available, responsive, and extremely helpful years after construction as things have come up over time that have needed attention. We made a great choice in hiring Allegheny!

Beware! Eddie Boyko and ABC have a problem with ethics. We contracted for a major renovation that was contracted for 12 months. After 21 months, there was literally not one habitable space in the house. Nothing was complete and a list of 300 defective or unfinished items was ignored. Worse, he demanded a FINAL payment before he would complete the job, even though the contract was clear he needed a final inspection from the county. He abandoned the project at that point and six weeks later a pipe he had installed in uninsulated attic space broke and flooded the house - destroyed much of the renovation (both good and bad). We hired another contractor to fix the mess, while Boyko refused to be responsible for the mess he created or the water damage. He also shafted his subcontractors, who then sued us. The disaster was even the subject of a Washington Post article about contractors gone bad (although we did not name him in that article). Two years of legal battles later, he filed for bankruptcy. He is now back in business because we agreed to let him come out of bankruptcy in exchange for a settlement of 10 cents on the dollar, which at least served as an acknowledgement of his negligence (this also released us from any responsibility to his subcontractors that he had not paid). Know exactly what you are getting into with this guy and whatever you do, do NOT pay him more than the work he has completed. We have hundreds of photos of his defective work, and are always happy to share them with anyone considering this builder.

The review by Rick Olson was accurate and there are many records to share with anyone who is considering this builder. The most relevant is Mr. Boyko's deposition (taken and answered under oath and penalty of perjury) which contradicts many of his excuses and responses to the review posted by Rick Olson. The photo posted here is the master bathroom as ABC left it when they walked off the project. Notice - no sink or tub. What you can't see is that there is no toilet or shower installed either! This is the most expensive part of the entire project...would YOU give someone their final payment if you were left with this?!? (Especially when the contract SPECIFICALLY says final payment is only due when the county issues a final permit?) Additionally, there wasn't one room in the entire house that was finished. And lastly, after demanding that final payment, 14 months later Boyko finally admitted he had made a substantial error (in our favor) of over $80,000. But if we hadn't counter-sued and if we had just paid him what he demanded, he would have no doubt pocketed that money.Again, happy to share court documents (including his deposition testimony) and photos. We don't want this to happen to anyone else.
