Had an enjoyable week's stay in one of the 2-person maximum rooms. These rooms are located in the "creekside" building, which I found preferable because it's farther back on the property, (so fewer people drive past this building), away from the road, and had a great view of Herring Creek.
Very clean, "old school" motel building, one of two motel buildings on the premises, along with several cabins of various size. This is a park at your door style, or walk-up to second floor, which I requested (and that request was honored.) Neat & tidy all around. Older facility, but charming and maintained. Room was very tiny, as I expected from the pics on the website, but cozy and attractive, and had everything I needed. It had a very good size window which is right beside the bed; I am glad my room was situated so I had the creek view while lying on my bed. I do wish it had the ability to open, for fresh air, with a screen. The noise of the AC unit got a little monotonous at times, but it was stuffy if I turned it off, even when it cooled down at night.
The whole property/grounds felt like camping without camping. I loved the smell of campfire smoke from firepits in the evening...I enjoy camping so that was a plus for me. The pool was larger than I expected and open until at least 9 PM. I loved the waterfront areas, picnic tables, firepit, and chairs down on the dock. I'd love to come back and stay in a cabin, and try a renting a kayak, which I never got around to doing.
I liked that this facility is slightly removed (by under 2 miles) from the very busy, bustling OC areas. Coming 'home' from outings into OC felt like returning to a relaxing, quiet camp, with plenty of open space & nature. I never took the shuttle into OC, choosing instead to drive, because even in season (last week of June) I never had a problem finding free parking everywhere I went. The traffic (which I had heard is terrible in season) was non-existent. Or perhaps I'm just accustomed to more traffic.
The staff was very helpful. I had an incident with my debit card being compromised while on vacation (NOT here... I suspect it was skimmed at a gas station) and Jaden in the office was a wonderful help. He listened carefully & with concern, quickly understood the slightly complex situation which caused me to lose phone use & the ability to access my funds, to use an ATM, or even make a phone calls! He understood and went above and beyond to help me resolve the issue when I was in a bind. That's excellent customer service! Thank you, Jaden! He's quite an asset to Beach Bum West- O and I won't forget your kindness at a stressful time! The housekeeper was friendly and emptied garbage and brought fresh towels every day. (They did not make up the bed, however, which I found to be a little strange, but no big deal.) When my curtain rod fell down (screws stripped out of sheetrock) maintenance responded very quickly and fixed it. The young woman who greets and runs the grab 'n' go breakfast was always pleasant and has such a warm, pretty smile & demeanor.
The only thing I disliked was that people smoked outside their rooms, on the little bench beside their door. People who stayed next to me even left a cup of cigarette butts on the bench. It's supposed to be a no smoking facility, and I'd expect that to include the areas outside one's door.
I recommend Beach Bum West-O highly to anyone who loves a low-key, not glitzy but sufficient and CLEAN, relaxing home-base to stay, close to the beach. Attached are a few pics- view directly from my bed (not zoomed & then zoomed in to the view of the waterfront.)

Check in went ok. I asked if I could upgrade to a two double room and was told that they were totally sold out for the duration of my stay. When I looked on their online booking, that was not the case. The room itself was just ok. We found a dead bug under the bed and a live one crawling on the wall by the TV. After pulling down the sheets and moving the pillows, I found a blood stain under the pillows, which had me paranoid that the room had bed bugs, as this is one sign of an infestation. I brushed it off and tried not to think about it, but I woke up the next morning with three bug bites going up my leg. The AC unit was so loud and kept kicking on and off throughout the night even though it was set to high fan and not auto. Between the fear of bugs and the AC unit, I maybe got 3 hours of sleep. The pool was a good size, but it was not very clean. I kept getting other people’s hair wrapped around my fingers. I decided to just eat the $500 I spent for the remainder of the nights and booked another hotel for us to stay in. Not sure why this place has so many amazing reviews.

This motel is very poor service I ever received. No coffee machine for rooms or no coffee provide in front office too. They had a cold coffee, when I go in evening. They said coffee only available in morning. What a disgusting people are running this property. Breakfast is just a word. Do not book this motel, cancellation NOT AVAILABLE too.

This was our absolute favorite place to stay for years. We stayed in the cabins we stayed in the hotel rooms this year. We made a reservation for the condo and the man double booked our room and when we called about our room, the girl that was working. The front desk was very ignorant. She even blocked both of our phone numbers, we were trying to figure out a way to stay there because it was the only place that we enjoyed staying. She was very disrespectful and ignorant, and could not accommodate us with another room at all. This is not how you run a business we’ve spent so many years going here. The new owners I would have to say are horrible. I miss the old owners. They will not let us speak to the owner or anyone very unofficial to block phone numbers when they’re trying to book a room. This is now the worst place ever.

Stayed in a cabin, brought dogs and the kids had a great relaxing week, property is beautiful and peaceful. close to everything and minutes from the beach (and crowd).
We will be back next year
Rooms: cabins are nice with frige,coffe pot and stove, screened porch cooked on grill

Clean! We would stay here again! We have spent much much more many times! I don't think we have ever been to an overnight this easy on the budget! We have tried but rejected the room but not Beach Bum West. Standards are high, rates are not!

I can't believe that I'm even having to write this. My father was murdered yesterday morning and this place refuses to give me a refund of about $230 bc they "cant do it through their system". This is so disappointing especially given the circumstances. We are canceling a couple of days early but this is not for fun or just bc we decided we dont want to go anymore. My father is gone and we are clearly not in the mood to go on vacation. They told me I would get a credit to go back to the beach only until November of this year. This is so disgraceful that a business would operate this way. I called and the front desk person said they would speak to a manager, put me on hold and then told me they cant refund me. Then when my boyfriend called immediately after, the same guy told him that the manager is not in. How cruel does one have to be? Why have a "system that can't refund" before 14 days in case of an atrocity like what my family is experiencing? We loved this place when we went last year, but I can't pay (overpay, mind you) for a place to stay that's run by callous people.

Rooms: The rooms were very clean.And smelled great,the staff took care of anything we needed.So don't be afraid of the low rates.We would give them our business anytime!!!
Noteworthy details: Owners and staff very friendly.They have shuttle to boardwalk that is nice,because it is very busy in ocean city.

This was our second time staying here. Although it wasn’t as good as the first time it was still ok. I had made a mistake booking online, only needing to stay one night, but some how I marked two nights. When I asked about it at check in. The guy replied “well you did it, nothing I can do”. You’ll be charged either way. I work at a hotel also. 25 years experience. That response just came off very cocky. I was in semi shock . I let it go. It was my mistake.I understand if he couldn’t fix it but For future reference maybe train them to respond to a guest in a nicer way. We ended up just leaving later in the day. It was fine. Room was still pretty clean like last time. Still have a cute establishment. Still will probably come back to visit the area in the future. Maybe you could start breakfast at an earlier time for us “early birds”. Just a suggestion. Overall an ok stay. Was relaxing by the water. Take care!
