I had a wonderful time at Washington Glass School. Everyone was so kind, passionate and helpful! I felt comfortable even though I had never worked with glass before and will definitely be returning to more classes in the future. I'm so glad there is a local place to be around creative minds!

5 stars because it's a great place amidst a community of wonderful fine artists and I'm not just saying that because the owner is a friend of mine...okay, maybe a little bit.

To be among talented artists and just great guys, book a class at the Washington Glass School just across the D.C. border in Mount Rainier, Maryland. Located in old industrial buildings with other studios, the Washington Glass School teaches classes for all ages and opens their space to artists who work on glass. They are also the only ones who teach welding without the need for a certificate. Parking is out front and they have their work on display inside if you want to pop in!

Three friends and I took the Welding for Dummies class. It was fantastic. Three sessions. Well thought out progression including a didactic portion (the different types of welding, etc), learning and practising basic welding skills, and overcoming the initial daunting nature of this process. The second class covered somewhat more advanced techniques, comparative use of different machines and more practise. For the 3rd session, we were given free reign to use any of the various available metals to design and create a welding project that could be completed within the 2 hour time frame. Erwin is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, organized, communicates well plus is approachable and affable. His course provided a good balance of his giving instruction and his observing our efforts with periods where he gave us free range to experiment with the many (fun) gadgets in the shop. He was there for advice and encouragement but not helicopter-like oversight. It is a great introductory course that will help you decide if you have the passion to invest in it as a hobby. Even if you don't, it is time and money well spent for an interesting, fun and creative experience.

The MIG welding class with Erwin was a blast. After easing into the basics on your first day, you’re walking home with a finished project after your third class. They also offer studio hours, so once you take the class and want more time to weld, you can plan time to visit and use the studio.

I recently took the intro to welding class and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to see what welding is all about. It is the perfect mix of information and first hand experience that has you starting to weld the first day. Erwin is a friendly and knowledgable teacher who explains concepts well and provides materials for you to continue to learn on your own. Enjoyed the class, well worth the cost. It has given me the confidence to buy my own welder and continue to learn.

I took the intro to MiG welding with Erwin and it was one of the best things I've done for myself in years! There are only four people in a class due to Covid restrictions so great hands on instruction and no waiting for equipment! They have all the toys- MiG, Tig, flux core, plasma cutters, saws, grinders, sanders, you name it. They provide welding masks and gloves (and you use the same one each class). They also provide material to practice on and you wrap up the class with a project of your own design. It is a very hands on class- so dress appropriately! This is certainly for people new to welding (or returning after being away for a long time).

I took the 3 day MIG welding class and it was fantastic. I had no experience welding prior to this class, but after getting some information the first day, we jumped in and started to weld. Erwin (the teacher) also provided info and suggestions on tools to get started as a novice. You also finish a small project by the third class. Highly recommend this school and this class.

Took a beginners welding class here that was awesome. Erwin, Audrey and other assistants are all super knowledgeable and you come away with a cool little project at the end of week 3. All materials and equipment are provided.
