This place is charged 20 dollars for 2 cokes and 2 nachos. 20 dollars for a mountain coaster that took 3 minutes to get up to the top and actually lasted 1 minute. It cost 40 dollars for a rope course I could do with my eyes closed that I finished in 3 minutes and they said”nope you can’t use the zip line” and made me and my friend walk all the way back to the beginning and figure out how to take off the gear. Highway robbery.

My friend and I decided to stop by Wisp to ride the mountain coaster. They dispatched my friend onto the coaster without buckling his seatbelt (we were informed they had to buckle is in, and that we were not to do it ourselves.)
Well, they didn’t. He only noticed near the top, after the first dip of the ride.
This is unacceptable. I have never, in all my years of riding coasters, heard of a coaster of *any* type dispatching unsecured riders. What’s worse is how it was handled when we reported it. They said “we’ll check in.” No apologies, no reports made, no follow up.
They don’t care enough about the life and safety of people riding their rides.

The property/landscape is gorgeous, the hotel staff is nice, the associate taking the reservations is very kind, the pool is huge and the rooms were clean and had a mini fridge, but those rooms were so outdated. It was like stepping back into time. LOL
The a/c unit was an old school unit with buttons like "low cool" and "high cool" and a knob that turns from "heat to very cool." The beds were too firm and they didn't have real pillows. It was three little half size pillow looking things on each bed. They reminded me of chiclets gum. LOL Also, my TV volume randomly stopped working for like an hour. LOL
I believe this place is for people who like to rough it. I'm not one of those people. LOL
The continental breakfast wasn't bad. Coffee, juice, fresh bread, fresh pastries and cereal. I got a coffee and a bagel before I left. Both good!
Check-in/out were smooth. I came for a wedding and just needed to stay the night. The room definitely was not worth the almost $250 I paid.
I wouldn't go back, but I definitely understand the people who do.

So, so many issues with the room. Why is this place so expensive? Here we go: Pee on the toilet seat when we arrived. Pillows so lumpy, that they squeezed them into squares and tucked the excess pillowcase inside of itself. No blankets, just lots of sheets, and a knitted throw. The A/C in the next room had a pulsing hum all night, like a vibrating phone but much lower pitched. Ice machine didn't work. No A/C in the hallways or elevators. No maid service.

Nice place McHenry it's self is a awsome place the views are great. Deep creek lake is nice. But that being said the place makes it money with tourists so the prices are higher than normal there is alot to do in the summertime I have not visited in the winter months I would say this place is off the chain the ski lodge has lifts that literally leave the back of the hotel they have a mountain coster and a white water rafting thing on top of the mountain oh forgot to rate the hotel it's clean and the staff are very nice I will be back maybe for some sking to see how this place be a ski lodge like it's supposed to be!
Nearby activities: There is alot of stuff to do deep creek lake mountain posters zip lines
Walkability: There are multiple walking trails up the mountain and the wild life is everywhere there is a family of skunks that roam the golf course

Really outdated and run-down. It cost almost $700 to spend 3 nights there off season, and the rooms were dirty, moldy, and uncomfortable. There was black mold in the shower, water damage stains in the ceilings, and the carpets smelled like mildew. There is also no housekeeping, and they tell you this when you check in. Continental breakfast was Quaker Oats instant oatmeal packets and boxes of cereal.
The check-in time isn’t until 5 PM, which is late for hotels. It’s confusing why the check in is so late, considering it is like a ghost town there (we never saw another guest during our entire stay there, aside from the people we went with).
The power and WiFi went out while we were there temporarily, and the front desk employee made it seem like that is a common thing that happens there.
There is absolutely NOTHING to do in this area as well (no good local restaurants, shops, etc.). I guess skiing is the main reason people come, but if you aren’t skiing, I genuinely cannot think of a reason anyone would stay in this resort (we came to the area for a wedding). If I ever had to come to Deep Creek again, I would get an Air BNB.
I strongly do not recommend this place mainly for the mold, mildew, and outdated nature of the entire place.
Rooms: Smelled like mildew. Mold everywhere. Beds are incredibly uncomfortable. They tell you at check in there is no house keeping at any point during the stay.
Nearby activities: Golf course
Safety: No one is around—it’s like a ghost town. I wouldn’t walk around alone here.
Walkability: Cannot walk to anything in Deep Creek from here.
Food & drinks: No restaurants or shops nearby.

Mid, pretty dissapintibg, rooms have paint peeling off, exposing dark stalactites hanging from roof

I was very disappointed with the hotel after hearing so many great things over the years. Maybe if I was there in the winter and there for skiing, the hotel becomes secondary for the ski experience and activities, but for me, I don't want to go back. For the record, the conference/ meeting space is great, and that staff was wonderful. The front desk check-in immediately put me on edge. The Marijuana smell in the hallway in a no smoking section was sickening. There were hairs all over some of my pillows, and both bedspreads were dirty, and it just felt so old. I've stayed in very remote hotels and motels in unpopulated areas of the world, and this was like that in terms of utilitarian function, but it is upsetting when it's not clean. Also, be aware that there are no phones in the room, so if you need the front desk or help, you must have a cell phone or walk to the front desk. I know most people do have a phone, but I know some people who don't, and my cell phone didn't have service a few times up there. So it is concerning. The pool was under construction, so that made me sad, but it looks better than most indoor pools in hotels - a true swimming experience. Location is great, in winter I'm sure it is better staffed, so maybe cleaner, and I bet there are many activities and fun to be had. For me, I'll take utilitarian but it must be clean and it wasn't.

Rooms are outdated. Winter season stays have the possibility of being great. I'll return in winter to get the full sky resort experience.
