My daughter stated taking ice skating lessons there this year and loves it! She started with basics 2 and just finished the basics 4 course. The lessons really help her progress fast. All the teachers we had were super nice and if you can't make it to a lesson it's no problem to join one on another day to make it up. We came here a few times during the summer just to skate which helped her practice what she learned in the lessons. I can only recommend this place and we are so glad we found it!

Super friendly staff. Getting rentals was fast and easy. Outdoor rink made for a fun day outside. Indoor rinks looked great too - well kept facilities.

First please let me clarify that this review specifically addresses figure skating (known as free-style work sessions). I do not have experience with hockey or public skating sessions here; for all I know, they could be lovely. I am giving 2 stars for Gardens' treatment of at least 50% of their business - figure skating families. Coming to Gardens is like being chased every minute - literally. The staff excel at bugging little kids about whether they have paid. You hear the background of their chanting all the time ("Don't get on to ice until it is EXACTLY 12:30!!" - when it was 12:29. Wow.). Very, very off-putting and unappreciative to your clients who spend hundreds of dollars every month for your mere ice-time. To me what is most hypocritical is the fact that they do not even bother issuing a paper punch card if you purchase a multi-session (you can buy, e.g., a 40-sessions "card" for a discount, except that there is no card). Reisterstown Sportsplex has a paper punch card and it makes perfect sense. Gardens does not, and it has happened to us numerous times when they have hence conveniently charged us more sessions than we have used. There is no paper punch card, hence no evidence, and an enormous amount of stress arguing. Yet, get this, they hand out tiny little raffle tickets to the kids to mark the sessions they have paid, "so as to keep track of who has paid". So ok, the skaters need to show evidence of what they have paid for the day, and the rink does not need to provide a mechanism of evidence to show how many sessions are still left for the MONTH. Go figure. If you are new to either the area or new to figure skating, choose a different rink. Reisterstown and Columbia are both lovely - mostly because the people are lovely. I should also clarify though that East Coast Hockey (the shop located inside Gardens lobby) is lovely. I think of them as a separate business and hence not part of this review. If your figure skater is making progress, expensive gears will be inevitable and it is not the store's fault. To me, if you are buying ~$1000 pair of skates, then the important thing is that the store has the expertise to provide all the proper maintenance and East Coast Hockey excels at that.

We traveled to The Gardens in Laurel, MD for the annual May Day competition and we had a great experience. Mostly on the "Patrick" ice surface and in the Calgary locker room. Very nice facilities. Big pro shop. Lovely!!!

We went here for Aladdin on Ice. While the show was extremely entertaining, it didn't appeal to my child and we ended up leaving 45 minutes into the show. I have to say, we walked to the other side (the skating ring open to public). It was well maintained and extremely clean. The also had a playground outside that we leveraged. Overall cool facility!

BEWARE!!! East Coast Hockey and Skating Supply, I guess had to change the name for some reason... Runs a 40% off CCM equipment with signs everywhere, then doesn't honor that sale when you get to the register because the item chosen was "new". HUH? Manager admits the mistake, then says"not going to do it", and turns his back to me. Nice! Not that I will ever be back there again, just wanted to tell everyone what kind of business this is. They apparently don't really care if they piss the customer off. Can't see any repeat business with that stance on customer service.

Really nice well maintained center. Three rinks, two indoor and one outdoor. The outdoor rink is pretty tiny though - nice to be outside but the circles are very small. You don't get to pick what rink you go on, and the best seem to be reserved for lessons or hockey. The public skate was fun, and cheap - skate rental and three hours for around $10.50. They zamboned the ice after an hour too. Their rental skates are really comfortable and unlike other rinks, really new as well which is nice. They have a big cafe as well ( didn't try it) and the whole place has a local vibe even while its a big a** center which is nice. Downsides: no lockable lockers - my stuff was safe (kept it by rink) but would have felt more secure if I could lock away my laptop.

Pure Hockey in Rockville, MD doesn't have goalie gear (they told us to drive to Sterling, VA) but East Coast Hockey (For Sports) in Laurel, MD does! Thank you!

"East Coast Hockey and Skating Supply", previously known as "For Sports", is by far the best place in the Washington DC area to purchase hockey equipment and accessories. The store is well stocked, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable on the latest hockey and figure-skating equipment. They also know the differences in sizing between manufactures and how to properly measure your feet, so you're sure to get a great fit. Unlike online stores, you get to see new equipment up close and try it on before purchasing. Their prices are very competitive, and the staff is quick to make quality repairs, even if you break a blade or skate boot during your game. They make every attempt to get you back on the ice quickly. The store is very well stocked with everything from sticks, tape, and skates, too hockey bags, pads, and gloves. They've got it all! Check them out when at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel MD. They also have other rink locations in Rockville MD, Piney Orchard MD, and The Chilled Ponds in Hampton Roads VA. I have purchased hockey equipment for my son and for several different teams for over 12-years, and "East Coast Hockey and Skating Supply" has always been there to help and supply gear.
